UK Speeding Laws: Cameras, Tickets and Avoiding a Ban with Jeremy Sirrell
Saison 8 · Épisode 3
vendredi 7 août 2026 • Durée 51:11
Could one speeding myth cost you your driving licence? UK motoring lawyer Jeremy Sirrell joins BrownCarGuy to explain the rules drivers often misunderstand, from speed cameras and the famous “10% plus 2 mph” belief to Section 172 notices, paperwork errors and avoiding a driving ban.
Jeremy began his legal career advising magistrates, became a Crown Prosecutor and later moved into private practice as a solicitor. Today, around half of his work concerns road traffic law, with the remainder focused on serious criminal cases. That makes him exceptionally well placed to separate motoring law from motoring folklore.
In this episode, we discuss:
• Why speeding tickets are more common than they were 20 years ago• The worst mistake to make after receiving a speeding allegation• Whether speed cameras legally have to be yellow• Whether “10% plus 2 mph” has any basis in law• Hard acceleration while remaining below the speed limit• Overtaking, emergencies and “special reasons”• When speeding evidence can genuinely be challenged• What to do when you honestly do not know who was driving• Missing paperwork, absent witnesses and prosecution time limits• Exceptional hardship and avoiding a driving ban• Whether Britain’s 70 mph motorway limit should change• The legality of inappropriate 20 mph limits• Sensible advice for performance-car drivers and petrolheads
Guest: Jeremy Sirrell, Director, COLP and MLRO at Palmers SolicitorsWebsite: https://www.palmerslaw.co.uk/
This conversation is for general information and entertainment. It is not legal advice. Laws, enforcement policies and the facts of individual cases vary. If you face an allegation or court proceedings, seek advice from a suitably qualified legal professional.

I Nearly Dropped a DeLorean Into a Trench, a Pothole Broke My Aston… & Why New Cars Will Turn on Us
Saison 8 · Épisode 2
dimanche 1 février 2026 • Durée 01:22:50
What do a DeLorean nearly falling into a trench, an Aston Martin suspension destroyed by a UK pothole, and modern cars quietly turning against their owners all have in common?
Nothing! But they're all in the latest crazy BCG Therapy podcast!
In this episode of BCG Therapy Podcast, I’m joined by Sy from Drivers Union and Imthishan Giado from Dubai, for a wide-ranging, brutally honest conversation about the state of modern motoring, car culture, and why driving no longer feels like freedom for so many people.
We start with one of the most surreal motoring moments imaginable. A DeLorean being driven into a luxury hotel in Dubai for a diplomatic event featuring US Marines, Star Wars Stormtroopers and Star Trek cut-out figures. The DeLorean, balanced on planks over a trench, with seconds to spare before it nearly disappeared backwards into a hole, when the planks snapped!
Then we jump back to Britain, where a perfectly normal drive ended with a pothole snapping the suspension on an Aston Martin. Yes, we talk about why UK roads are falling apart, why potholes are becoming a hidden tax on motorists, and how infrastructure neglect is quietly making driving more expensive, stressful, and unrewarding.
We look at how new cars have become heavier, more complex, and more fragile, while also being more expensive than ever to buy and repair - you won't believe how much Britain's best-selling car sells for!
We also explore the darker side of modern car technology. Connected cars, remote shut-off systems, software control, sanctions that can brick vehicles, and the growing concern that cars are no longer machines we own, but devices we’re allowed to use. This is where the idea that new cars could eventually turn on their owners stops sounding dramatic and starts sounding realistic.
Along the way, we dive into:
• Why younger people are opting out of driving altogether
• How EVs and Chinese cars are reshaping the market through tech, not emotion
• Why modern SUVs and EVs are becoming dangerously heavy

Amazon Owns Bond, AI Fakes Everything & We Want An Esprit | BCG Podcast w/ Sy of Drivers Union
Saison 7 · Épisode 18
dimanche 21 décembre 2025 • Durée 01:14:28
Everything you think is real probably isn’t anymore… and cars, Bond and AI are right at the centre of it.
In this wide-ranging BCG Podcast episode, I’m joined by Sy from Drivers Union for a candid, funny and occasionally unsettling conversation about AI, cars, car culture, events, media, movies and what the future actually looks like for enthusiasts and creators alike.
We kick off by tackling AI and reality — from fake videos and AI-generated voices to the moment you stop trusting your own eyes. If you’ve ever wondered “Is this real or AI?”, you’re not alone. We discuss how artificial intelligence is already reshaping content creation, photography, video, journalism, marketing and media, and why ignoring it puts you at a serious disadvantage.
From there, the conversation naturally moves into cars and car culture, including:
- Why AI is changing how cars are designed, marketed and perceived
- The explosion of Chinese EVs, industry uncertainty and why legacy manufacturers are hitting the brakes
- Why classic cars and 80s/90s icons are becoming more desirable than new cars
- The stabilising (and shifting) classic car market
We dive deep into one of the most talked-about new projects of the year:
👉 The Encor Design Lotus Esprit S1 reimagining
A modern re-engineering of a true Bond icon — and arguably the car Lotus should have built. We discuss why this Esprit matters, what makes it special, and why it captures the imagination in a way most modern launches don’t.
There’s also plenty of real-world car culture:
Urinal Etiquette, Why Batman Can’t Pee & London’s Quickest Ambulance | BCG Podcast w/ Sy & Alan Robb
Saison 7 · Épisode 17
samedi 22 novembre 2025 • Durée 01:11:44
London once had an ambulance driver so fast he could outpace supercars — and after hearing these stories, you’ll never look at paramedics the same way again.
In this outrageous and unmissable episode of the BCG Podcast, I’m joined by Sy and Alan Robb, Chairman of the Lamborghini Club U.K. — and a former emergency response driver with tales that sound more like Hollywood than the NHS. If you enjoy supercars, mad stories, near-impossible driving feats, automotive culture, and pure banter, this one’s going to blow your socks off.
Alan reveals what it’s really like to pilot a 1990s ambulance (with a 3.0-litre Ford Cosworth V6) at high speed, drifting through London — including training, technique, controlled chaos, split-second decision-making, and the a record-breaking life-saving run that was so impressive, the nurse married him!
And then things get even wilder…
We dive into:
• The unspoken rules of urinal etiquette (you will never un-hear this).
• Why a certain caped crusader would genuinely struggle to pee.
• How grown men end up crying inside a Lamborghini Countach.
• Sy playing with his Iron-Man-ish helmet and light-saber like a big kid.
• The supercar world’s quirks, secrets, egos and pure joy.
• What it takes to drive fast — properly fast — in the real world.
This episode swings from hysterical to heartfelt, from nerdy car culture to life-and-death realities, and from superhero nonsense to the most astonishing true stories a paramedic has ever told.

Why 911s Are Driven By Pricks + Imposter Syndrome in Car Journalism | Therapy w/ Imthishan & Naveed
Saison 7 · Épisode 12
samedi 20 septembre 2025 • Durée 01:10:16
“Imposter Syndrome in Car Journalism + Why 911s Are Driven by Pricks!”
Yes, we went there. From battling self-doubt in the industry to a savage takedown of Porsche 911 culture, this BrownCarGuy Therapy Session pulls no punches.
But that’s just the start…
In this episode I’m joined by: 👉 Naveed Hussain aka @Naveed4Speed – UK car reviewer & AutoEvolution contributor. 👉 Imthishan Giado – Dubai-based automotive business journalist, ex-CAR Middle East deputy editor, and my co-founder at Motoring Middle East.
We dive into the most controversial, hilarious and revealing conversations you’ll hear about car culture right now: ⚡ Imposter Syndrome in Car Journalism – why young creators feel they don’t belong, and whether “real” journalists vs influencers even matters anymore. ⚡ 911s are for Pricks? – Imthishan drops the most brutal take on Porsche 911 ownership you’ve ever heard (and why he might reluctantly agree they’re brilliant). ⚡ Gatekeeping & Diversity – “the barrier of entry for brown people is invisible and so much higher… you’ve got to be the Barack Obama of automotive journalism.” ⚡ Bradford Car Culture – Caterhams, LaFerraris on the high street, and why Bradford’s car + food scene might surprise you. ⚡ Chinese Cars Take Over – BYD has 100,000 people in R&D compared to VW’s 20k. Are legacy manufacturers totally screwed? ⚡ Enthusiasts vs Consumers – are petrolheads becoming an endangered species in the algorithm era? ⚡ AI & Algorithms – why opinions may no longer matter if Google and ChatGPT just spit out the specs. ⚡ Ford’s Fast-Tracked Ranger Raptor Disaster – how rushing development to keep up with the Chinese exposed huge flaws in the Middle East.⚡ – the truth about running costs, honesty in old school engineering, and whether passion is worth the pain.
- Why design, theatre and emotion matter more than specs
- Supercars vs classics and where enthusiasm is heading next
Sy also reveals major plans for Drivers Union, including:
- Expansion beyond supercars into classics and sports cars
- International membership
- The future of Drivers Union events
- Launching a new Drivers Union magazine
- And his ambitious move into publishing — with 11 car books in progress, effectively becoming a specialist automotive publisher
Things then take a sharp turn into James Bond territory:
- Amazon owning the Bond franchise
- Whether Bond can (or should) be reinvented
- Retired Bonds, Roger Moore nostalgia and Pierce Brosnan speculation
- Why the Bond debate is really about culture, identity and aspiration
We even touch on my own past — including my comic-book spoof of a Pakistani Bond character, Jamshed Khan, created years before today’s conversations about representation ever went mainstream.
This episode blends cars, culture, AI, movies, publishing and the business of enthusiasm into one honest conversation — no scripts, no corporate filters, just real talk.
👇 Drop your thoughts in the comments:
Is AI helping or hollowing out creativity?
Is car culture entering a new golden age… or a slow fade?
