Dorothy's beauty and charm caught the attention of Hugh Hefner, who brought her to the Playboy Mansion and named her Playmate of the Year in 1980.

It seemed like the 1980’s we’re going to be the decade of Dorothy into her success was quickly marred by her tumultuous relationship with her estranged husband, Paul Snider, who became increasingly possessive and abusive.

Despite her fear and hesitation, Dorothy found the strength to leave Snider and pursue her dreams in Hollywood. But Snider's obsession with Dorothy ultimately led him to commit a horrific act of violence.
Immortalized in the film Star 80.
Today, we not only remember Dorothy's tragic death, but also celebrate her bravery in leaving an abusive relationship and following her passions.

In part one of this series we told you about Stevie, Michael, Chris and the murders that would forever change West Memphis Arkansas.
We told you things the way that they seemed, now it’s time to get into things the way that they actually were.

In this episode we try and gain a broader understanding of the Satanic Panic and it’s origins (from preschools to memoirs to rock music) while examining how this same search for satan narrowed the murder investigation by the West Memphis Police Department in 1993

We learn about the way polygraphs were used in the investigation and why they held so much weight for the police and some of the people who may have gotten off without much questioning.

We also include passages from Damien’s book Life After Death and the book Jason Baldwin helped write with Mara Leverit, Dark Spell.

On May 5th, 1993 Stevie Branch, Michael Moore and Christopher Byers went out for a bike ride and never came home.

In 1994 three teenagers, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley were convicted of the crimes.

The case gathered widespread media attention which was only amplified by the 1996 release of HBO’s Paradise Lost. For nearly two decades “The West Memphis Three,” fought for their innocence eventually entering an Alford plea that led to their release in 2011.

With new evidence and technology, thirty years later this is a case that may finally be solved.

In part one of this series we’re going to look at things the way they initially seemed and try and get to know Stevie, Michael and Chris while we try and gain a broader understanding of the murders that happened on May 5th, 1993 in West Memphis, Arkansas, and why things aren't always what they seem to be.

The television show Yellowjackets introduces us to a girl’s soccer team at a New Jersey high school on their way to nationals in a privately chartered plane that crashes.

What we know from the start is the girls survived for 19 months in the wilderness before being rescued, doing some very extreme things that we the viewer are not yet privy to.

Before there was Fyre Festival there was Woodstock 99. The festival took place from July 23-25, 1999 in Rome, New York. Though it was intended to be a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival, it ended up being anything but. It turned out to be the hottest weekend of the year, with temperatures reaching over 100 degrees.

The festival grounds were designed to hold 50,000 people, but over 200,000 showed up. There were long lines for water and bathrooms, and the prices for food and merchandise were sky-high. And to make matters worse, there were reports of sexual assault and harassment throughout the weekend- in this episode we examine Woodstock ‘99 what went right, what went Korn, and what went wrong.

In part 1 of our discourse on Nickelodeon we talk about the founding of the network in the late 1970's as commercial free kids programming to the network's acquisition by Warner which led to & the so called "Orange Years" (1983-1996) while trying to gain a broader understanding of how Nickelodeon became what it is today 

While some people seemed to always have had the best intentions, the early years of Nickelodeon set the ground work for everything that would follow. From shows like You Can't Do That on Television and the introduction of slime and competition shows like Double Dare to scripted series like Salute Your Shorts, Pete & Pete, Clarissa Explains it All & Are You Afraid of the Dark? In the 1980's and early 90's Nickelodeon was a cornerstone for kids programming.

But how did a network which basically started as public broadcasting with the intent of making children feel seen become a safe haven for some of the most predatory people in the entertainment industry? It started with the Orange Years.

On June 23 1993, after enduring years of physical and emotional abuse, Lorena Bobbitt infamously cut off the p*nis of her sleeping husband, John Wayne Bobbit. The case instantly becomes content for the 24 news cycle and a joke for late night comedians but the backstory is much more sinister. In this episode, we will discuss how Lorena was a victim of domestic abuse during a time when there were no laws and few systems in place to protect or help women stuck in dangerous relationships. We will also examine the trials of John and Lorena, gender bias in the media and the court room, domestic violence and the difficulty of leaving abusive situations. On January 6th, 1994 a tall man in a leather jacket attacked figure skater Nancy Kerrigan with a baton before fleeing head first through a glass window. Who was this kneecap bashing mad man and another skater Tonya Harding be involved in planning the attack? In this episode we’ll be going through the time period after Casey’s arrest on July 16th and before her arraignment on October 14th. We’ll also be hearing her jail house visits, the Timer55 Theory, George and Cindy’s media interviews and media appearances as well as talking about missing children’s cases and how they play out in the media, and meeting a new character of this story Nancy Grace. When we last left off it was July 17th and Casey was booked into The Orange County Jail. She’d been arrested less than 24 hours after her mother Cindy had made three 911 calls, the last one frantically explaining “my granddaughter has been taken she’s been missing for a month, my daughter admitted to me she’s been missing for a month I just found my daughter But I can’t find my granddaughter. I found my daughters car today and it smells like there’s been a dead body in the damn car….This is a three year old little girl… I need to find her,” when police arrived Casey explained to them, she had left Caylee with her longterm nanny Zanny 31 days ago at Sawgrass aparmtments, she met Zanny through co-workers and her closest friends at Universal Studios where she’d worked for four years, when the detectives went to Sawgrass Apartment unit 210 had been empty for months; when Casey led detectives to her office at Universal Studios where she worked as a party planner they hit a literal dead end and told detectives “I don’t really work here,” she’s interrogated and placed under arrest. She gets her one jailhouse phone call asking for her boyfriend’s number, the Anthony’s do not realize this will later be played on the news, and she aquires Jose Baez as her attorney. Today we’re talking about the Radium Girls and the Unsolved Death of Karen Silkwood. Normally, we’d never start any story reflecting on the dead with “she lit up a room,” but the radium girls aren’t really a story as much as they are a lesson, and when we say they lit up a room we mean it in a literal sense. Not only did radium girls make three times more money than the average factory worker but when they left the studio where they painted watch dials all day, they actually glowed. Radium was safe, everyone knew that. Not only safe but kind of sexy, kind of glamorous. With radium spas and facial potions, you couldn’t open up a paper without seeing the benefits of radium. And they believed in these benefits, until you know, their bones started falling out. How did the Radium Girls find justice? We will also tell you the story of Karen Silkwood, a worker at Kerr-Mcgee Plutonium factory in the 1970s, who became a whistleblower and safety activist, after witnessing her coworkers fall ill due to plutonium exposure. After joining the Union, and speaking out about her concerns, Karen became exposed herself. A week later she died. We’re doing the ultimate deep dive on Caylee Anthony & her mom Casey. Join us as we try and gain a broader understanding of how any of this happened. This is part one of a four part series. The Thirty-One days are often reduced to a series of soundbites but we’re going to tell you about each day. In this episode we’ll be looking at the disappearance of Caylee Anthony starting with the events of June 16th.
