| Mecca And The Soul Brother | 30 Sep 2024 | 00:57:10 | |
1992 was full of many great hip-hop albums from East to West and everything in between, but the Mount Rushmore of LPs from that year is definitely Mecca And The Soul Brother from Pete Rock and CL Smooth. Pete Rock's production is almost 2nd to none with the witty, laid-back flow from CL, fitting every beat Pete makes like a glove. This album showcases how in tune the pair truly are through every track. https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8q8abuoIspe&_r=1 https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086006336425&mibextid=LQQJ4d

| Blue Funk | 15 Jul 2024 | 01:06:14 | |
Though not one of Heavy D's most successful albums, 1992's Blue Funk is one of his most personal, complemented by a more prevalent street-like sound than his other releases. With production from Tony Dofat, DJ Premier, Pete Rock and Jesse West (just to name a few), Heavy D and The Boys created an LP that feels rough around the edges, while also proving the haters wrong without compromising who they were. https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8nc1oBJ62pi&_r=1 https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086006336425&mibextid=LQQJ4d
| Here Come The Lords | 08 Jul 2024 | 01:16:07 | |
When you think of the best hip-hop albums, many come to mind. However one that should, but is often forgotten is the 1993 debut album from Lords Of The Underground, titled Here Come the Lords. Produced by the legendary Marley Marl, underrated K-Def rappers Doitall and Mr. Funke, along with DJ Lord Jazz, they bring their high energy and lyrical skills that are a match made in heaven over their rugged beats. Their ability to rap crazy, like on the track Psycho, or add humor like we hear on Sleep for Dinner, make this an entertaining album that belongs in the conversation about best hip-hop albums of all time. https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8nc1oBJ62pi&_r=1 https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086006336425&mibextid=LQQJ4d

| Return Of The Boom Bap | 24 Jun 2024 | 01:14:35 | |
On this episode, we review one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever made. We're talking about the 1993 classic, Return Of The Boom Bap from KRS-One. After releasing five albums with Boogie Down Productions, KRS-One went solo. He recruited different producers, most notably DJ Premier, to reinvent his career and create a hip-hop album created solely for the hardcore heads. Just as he tells us on the title track, Return Of The Boom Bap means the return of the real hard beats and real rap! https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8nRo5KsLZ8w&_r=1 https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086006336425&mibextid=LQQJ4d

While Tupac is well known for his later albums, his first two LPs rarely get recognition they deserve. His 1993 sophomore effort, Strictly for My N.#.G.G.#.Z., was the album that jump started his career. | The Low End Theory | 27 May 2024 | 01:11:28
When we say bonified classic albums, this week's album is what we mean. We're talking about the sophomore release from A Tribe Called Quest, titled The Low End Theory. Following their successful debut in 1990, A Tribe stormed back on the scene in 1991 with an LP for the ages, with most production handled by member Q-Tip. The beats were darker, jazzier, and heavier on the bass. Not only were the beats leveled up, the lyrics were as well from rappers Q-Tip and Phife Dawg. Phife's presence was notably stronger on this project as opposed to their debut, showing not only his emergence in the group but as an mc in general. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086006336425&mibextid=LQQJ4 https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8mgvT4ULfGo&_r=1

On Episode 66, we review the 5th album from the G.O.A.T., right out of Queens, LL Cool J. This album was released March 30th in 1993. Adapting a more gritty sound for this album and heavily influenced by the West Coast, it was met by mixed reviews from fans. However it also contained some of his best lyrical work with songs like Straight From Queens and Pink Cookies In A Plastic Bag Getting Crushed By Buildings. https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8ioW4fAld1y&_r=1 https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086006336425&mibextid=nwBsNb

| Dead Serious | 04 Dec 2023 | 01:00:37 | |
This weeks album review is from a hip-hop duo who came stiggedy-stomping onto the scene in 1992, named Das EFX with their debut LP Dead Serious. Rocking dreads, making tons of pop culture refrences, and putting as many “iggedys”after words as they could, Krazy Drazy and Skoob ushered in a brand new style never heard in hip-hop before and took the world by storm. https://instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igshid=MzMyNGUyNmU2YQ%3D%3D&utm_source=qr https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086006336425&mibextid=LQQJ4d https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8hsW4qkVoWw&_r=1

| Amerikkka's Most Wanted | 20 Nov 2023 | 01:29:44 | |
This week, we cover the legendary debut album Amerikkka's Most Wanted, from West Coast rap artist - none other than Ice Cube. After leaving N.W.A., Cube teamed up with Public Enemy's production group The Bomb Squad, and fellow friend Sir Jinx, to make arguably the greatest debut hip-hop album ever. Dropped in 1990, Ice Cubes' story telling, hard chaotic beats, and gangsta yet conscious abilities put him on the map as a solo artist and proved he could stand on his own. https://instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igshid=MzMyNGUyNmU2YQ%3D%3D&utm_source=qr https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086006336425&mibextid=LQQJ4d https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8hrXzbIJzN0&_r=1
