En mai 2026, Gabriel Zucman était invité à Bozar pour un entretien approfondi avec le journaliste Mehdi Khelfat. Dans son nouvel essai percutant, Les milliardaires ne paient pas d’impôt sur le revenu et nous allons y mettre fin, l’économiste franco-américain défend l’instauration d’un impôt mondial sur la fortune. Un combat qui lui a permis d’imposer cette question au cœur de l’agenda politique international.

Dans cet épisode de la série Writers & Thinkers Stage, il déconstruit les principaux arguments avancés contre la « taxe Zucman » et revient notamment sur la menace de l’exil fiscal.

Tout au long de ce voyage auditif, nous avons pu découvrir Sophie Taeuber-Arp en tant que femme moderne, très décidée dans la manière dont elle voulait réaliser ses travaux artistiques. L’art est sa réponse à la guerre et aux conventions. Dans l’une de ses lettres, elle souligne l’importance du travail pour maintenir la culture en vie. Tout sa vie, Sophie Taeuber-Arp a fait preuve de détermination et d’abnégation. Envers son art évidemment, mais aussi envers son mari. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, elle est bouleversée par la misère dont souffre le peuple, et se démène pour trouver de la nourriture pour elle, mais surtout pour Hans/Jean Arp. Nous le mettrons en avant par la lecture de ses lettres, écrites à sa sœur, ou aux collectionneurs Müller-Widmann.

Reconnue en Suisse, la reconnaissance à Paris est plus aride pour elle mais aussi pour d’autres artistes abstraits. Grâce à une archive de Michel Seuphor, nous comprenons que les surréalistes luttent pour se faire une place dans le monde des arts. Taeuber-Arp a aussi du mal à sortir de l’ombre de son mari et à s’imposer comme une artiste de l’art abstrait dans une société fermée et conservatrice.

’épisode 4 met en avant la maison atelier de Clamart où les idées voyagent d’un atelier à l’autre, mais évoque aussi la lutte de Sophie Taeuber-Arp pour ne pas être noyée par les tâches domestiques qui lui pèsent. Femme émancipée, elle reste cependant au service de son mari.

On a failli oublier que Sophie Taeuber-Arp était à l’origine de la création de ce que l’on nomme “la Chapelle Sixtine de l’art moderne”, l’Aubette de Strasbourg. Pourtant, elle est bien au cœur ce chantier monumental, qui s’est achevé en 1928. Le chantier de l’Aubette permet à Sophie Taeuber-Arp de se lancer dans sa première œuvre architecturale : une maison-atelier située à l’orée de la forêt de Meudon, pour elle et son mari.

Le deuxième épisode est consacré à la rencontre entre Sophie Taeuber et Hans/Jean Arp, qui a lieu à Zurich en 1915. Cette période du début du 20e nous démontre à quel point elle était indépendante et visionnaire. Professeure, danseuse, sculptrice, artiste, résolument émancipé, la décennie qui arrive s’annonce comme artistiquement débordante.

Quand et comment la légende de Sophie Taeuber-Arp a-t-elle commencé ? Et pourquoi ? Voici le récit de la fin tragique de sa vie.

In deze bonusaflevering belichten we de zeer nauwe band tussen het echtpaar Arp en de Belgische hoofdstad. We nodigen de luisteraars uit om een rijke periode op de grens van surrealisme en abstractie tussen 1928 en 1931 te ontdekken.

Tijdens deze auditieve reis hebben we Sophie Taeuber-Arp leren kennen als een moderne vrouw, zeer vastberaden in de manier waarop ze haar artistieke werk wilde uitvoeren. Kunst is haar antwoord op oorlog en conventies. In een van haar brieven benadrukt ze het belang van werk om cultuur levend te houden. Sophie Taeuber-Arp heeft haar hele leven vastberadenheid en zelfopoffering getoond. Ten opzichte van haar kunst, uiteraard, maar ook van haar man. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog is ze geschokt door de ellende van de mensen en worstelt ze om eten te vinden voor zichzelf, maar vooral voor Hans/Jean Arp. We zullen dit benadrukken door haar brieven aan haar zus en aan de verzamelaars Müller-Widmann te lezen.

Sophie Taeuber-Arp slaagt erin om stereotypen de kop in te drukken, maar niet zonder moeite. Dankzij een archief van Michel Seuphor begrijpen we dat de surrealisten worstelen om in de kunstwereld een plek voor zichzelf te veroveren. Daarnaast heeft Taeuber-Arp moeite om uit de schaduw van haar man te treden en om zich als abstract kunstenares in een gesloten en conservatieve samenleving te vestigen.

De vierde aflevering focust op de atelierwoning in Clamart, waar ideeën tussen verschillende ateliers rondfladderen. De aflevering roept echter ook de strijd van Sophie Taeuber-Arp op om niet te worden overspoeld door de huishoudelijke taken die op haar wegen. Ook al is ze een geëmancipeerde vrouw, ze blijft toch in dienst staan van haar echtgenoot.

We zouden haast vergeten dat Sophie Taeuber-Arp achter de creatie zat van de zogenaamde ‘Sixtijnse Kapel van de moderne kunst’: L’Aubette in Straatsburg. Nochtans is ze de drijvende kracht van dit monumentale project, dat in 1928 werd voltooid. De werf van L’Aubette biedt Sophie Taeuber-Arp de kans om zich op haar eerste architectuurproject te storten: een atelierwoning voor haarzelf en haar man aan de rand van het bos van Meudon.

De tweede aflevering staat in het teken van de ontmoeting tussen Sophie Taeuber en Hans/Jean Arp in Zürich in 1915. Deze periode in het begin van de 20e eeuw laat zien hoe onafhankelijk en visionair ze is. Lerares, danseres, beeldhouwster, kunstenares, resoluut geëmancipeerd: het komende decennium belooft overweldigend artistiek te worden.

Wanneer en hoe begon de legende van Sophie Taeuber-Arp? En waarom? We beginnen het verhaal van deze bijna opgeofferde kunstenares met haar tragische einde. Ook in deze podcast: in 2021 biedt de publicatie van nooit eerder gepubliceerde brieven ons de perfecte gelegenheid om de kunstenares te herontdekken. Haar genialiteit, haar creaties, haar persoonlijkheid en haar ongelooflijke artistieke veelzijdigheid staan centraal in het verhaal van haar relatie met Arp.

Le sixième et dernier épisode est consacré au dialogue entre De Bruyckere, son mari et artiste Peter Buggenhout, et les mots de Patti Smith, tous réunis dans une même pièce. 

« À leur manière, Smith et De Bruyckere sculptent à la fois les souvenirs et le temps lui-même, pour tisser une relation intime avec le monde au fil de petites bribes reconquises ».

Un tronc d’arbre monumental percé de flèches en bronze a trouvé son nom et son inspiration auprès de Saint Sébastien, une véritable obsession pour De Bruyckere.

« C’est comme si les flèches ne le blessaient pas, alors qu’elles transpercent son corps ».

Dans cet épisode, nous nous rendons au XVIe siècle, dans l’univers des jardins clos enchanteurs que Berlinde De Bruyckere a découverts pour la première fois en 2016.

« Ce qui m’a particulièrement fascinée, c’est la façon dont ils ont été conçus et leur mixité. »

De Pasolini, nous passons à l’œuvre de l’artiste allemand de la Renaissance Lucas Cranach et sa Salomé qui, impassible, porte la tête coupée de Jean-Baptiste.

« L’absence d’une tête dans mon œuvre n’a jamais parlé d’une telle manière », déclare-t-il.

Nous plongeons dans la première salle de Khorós, où la vision poignante de Lost ouvre l’exposition, rendant évidente l’influence du cinéaste Pier Paolo Pasolini.
