There is been one disappointment after another recently. Chatty Patty almost goes to a Kodansha House lottery event, Crunchyroll suddenly doesn't know how to make subtitles, and Wandance's animation is a disgrace. Common Side Effects on HBO/Adult Swim is ugly as heck, so why is it so difficult to look away from the screen? Sometimes, plot and characters carry so hard, even the lacking visuals don't impact the experience. In the case of this animated series, the wonky art style actually makes it all better. Let's review what makes Common Side Effects such a great new series. Meanwhile, the Black Ramen Crew checks in on season 2 of Solo Levelling: ... Not gonna lie, it's still pretty, and sometimes that's also all a show needs.

We told you what we love about the Winter 2025 anime season in pt. I, now lets get into the hate. And let me tell you, we are the biggest haters. Some anime this season just did not hit the mark. Don't forget Virtual Trivia Night on 3/13 on Discord: https://discord.gg/m8v2Ymam

Time for the anime season run down. We had some fun with these shows. Fantasy reigns supreme, but there are some great slice of life to look forward to. Don't forget Virtual Trivia Night on 3/13 on Discord: https://discord.gg/m8v2Ymam

The 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards are nowhere near happening, and we are actually happy about it! It seems they also realized their past rules were dumb, and made a big change this year. Let's talk about the new timeline, new categories, and new series we think deserve a spotlight.

listen as Bri and Derby pitch to Patty, 3 manga series each and the anime studio that would produce them.

As always, Patty and Bri go to war against online trolls who think they can police how fan artists show their love. In other news, has the Fall 2024 Anime Season been a flop, or do you just have bad taste?

Viz Media has launched a new one-shot program for aspiring manga artists here in the US. Naturally, our girl Gigi Murakami more than earned a spot with her to-die-for story of grim reapers hunting for revenge: RESENTER

In an questionable change, Anime NYC moved its 2024 convention forward to the summer, and this year sure was a hot one in many ways. We have flowers to give and bones to pick with the organization. Let's talk cosplay, panels, and future expectations in our recap of Anime NYC 2024.

spring recap

Enough with the shounen this, battle that. We just want the doki-doki action of hand holding every now and then. We at Black Ramen always encourage our listeners to diversify their viewing. To offer some assistance with this, we invited our good friend from Shonen Pump Party, DJ Jynn to talk about some of our favorite slice of life and romance anime and explain why they are so darn good.

Patches & Pins Expo was the place to be in Brooklyn over Memorial Day weekend! Black Ramen, as always, stopped by and found a better use for our rent money.

Black Ramen goes out of town to visit Fan Expo Philadelphia. With so many anime and comic cons popping off around the US, how does this one compare? Spoil alert, it is well worth the trip. In other news, X-Men '97 has once again broken the internet. It's Magneto's turn to say, "TOLD YOU SO!"

While Bri cries over the cancellation of the Yuri on Ice move, it is time to talk about the Spring 2024 Anime Season! What are the must-watch shows so far and which returning anime are worth catching up for?

X-Men is back on Disney+ with a continuation of the X-Men '92 and '93 series. Does it still hold up, or is it another nostalgia money grab? The Black Ramen crew reviews the first 5 episodes *SPOILERS* and discusses the Black History behind the Marvel heroes. In other news, Fallout is looking good! It's time for another playthrough.

Megan Thee Stallion brought us all to our knees with her Jojo cosplay at the Crunchyroll Awards. Regardless of which anime won which category, she won the night. We will also be discussing whether or not the same shows should be dominating year after year. Maybe they are just that great.
