CHRISTOPHER VANDERGOOT is the director of the Great Lakes Acoustic Telemetry Observation System and associate professor at Michigan State University. Prior to his current position, Chris served as a research fishery biologist at the Lake Erie Biological Station, Great Lakes Science Center, US Geological Survey located in Sandusky, Ohio, supervisor of fish biology at the Sandusky Fisheries Research Station, and a fisheries biologist on Lake Erie with the Ohio Department of Natural Resource, Division of Wildlife. As a fisheries researcher and biologist, he is interested in understanding and quantifying the population dynamics of native Great Lakes fish populations, particularly Lake Erie percids. He primarily focuses on conducting field-based studies that describe the ecological and demographic processes of wild fish populations for stock assessment modeling purposes. Specific areas of interest include examining stock discreteness, rates of iteoparity (i.e., frequency of reproductive cycles), spawning site fidelity, spawning phenology, migratory behavior, and estimating mortality rates (i.e., fishing and natural). He has also conducted numerous studies evaluating the efficiency and performance of fishery-independent sampling gears and methodologies. Chris received his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Statue University, his master’s degree from Tennessee Technological University and doctorate from Michigan State University. Tom Keenan is a professional angler who grew up on the beautiful shores of Little Bay de Noc in Upper Michigan so his passion for fishing started at a young age. Keenan fished his first tournament in 1989. He teamed up with his brother Mark and took second place at their first Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) Event. This competition inspired him to get a college degree and land a job in the fishing industry. Keenan has fished tournaments for over 30 years and has accumulated various titles along the way. He has won Team of the Year twice with the MWC, was a three-time RCL/FLW Angler of the Year and won the National Walleye Trail (NWT) Angler of the Year title in 2019. He surpassed a major milestone in 2016 having made over one million dollars in career earnings. His career milestone win came in 2003 when he won the RCL Championship and earned 300,000 dollars for this single event. He is the all-time career earner on the RCL tour and currently is second for earnings on the NWT Trail. Keenan worked for Gander Mountain for over 27 years and was a store manager for one of the highest volume stores in the company for 20-plus years. He continues to perform seminars and speaking events throughout the Midwest and has always been willing to instruct anglers of all skill levels. Capt. In addition, Brett took the NWT Angler of the Year title in 2018. When Brett is not fishing walleye tournaments, he is spending time with his family and he is also an avid hunter and ice fisherman. Brett’s son is following in this dad’s footsteps of tournament angling where he presently fishes for bass at the collegiate level. Brett also attends many boat shows in the off season. Nicknamed "The Prodigy" Brandon Palaniuk is one of the most successful anglers on the Bassmaster Elite Series in the last decade. He was the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship winner in 2010 and 2017 Bassmaster Angler of the Year. He has five Elite wins. In 2021, Brandon had two Top 10s in the Elites and won the Bassmaster Northern Open at James River. Armed with a rod in one hand and a camera in the other, Jay’s love for photography was born on lakes, ponds, and wherever his chase for the next bite would take him. Jay recognizes that a good camera is to photography what a good rod is to fishing – a necessary tool that is nearly useless without a deep and balanced understanding of the craft. Jay’s keen eye for visual composition and his experience working professionally in the field provide him with the foundation to succeed in a talent filled industry.  

In the fall of 2011, Jay’s camerawork helped launched the birth of Uncut Angling. Uncut has gained 200,000+ subscribers and over 45,000,000 views on Youtube. He’s in it now, but still can’t answer that question…. Brett is one of those guys who majored in marketing, only because there was no such thing as a “fishing degree” at the time. Dr. Chris Vandergoot is the director of the Great Lakes Acoustic Telemetry Observation System and associate professor at Michigan State University. Prior to his current position, Chris served as a research fishery biologist at the Lake Erie Biological Station, Great Lakes Science Center, US Geological Survey located in Sandusky, Ohio, supervisor of fish biology at the Sandusky Fisheries Research Station, and a fisheries biologist on Lake Erie with the Ohio Department of Natural Resource, Division of Wildlife. As a fisheries researcher and biologist, he is interested in understanding and quantifying the population dynamics of native Great Lakes fish populations, particularly Lake Erie percids. He primarily focuses on conducting field-based studies that describe the ecological and demographic processes of wild fish populations for stock assessment modeling purposes. Specific areas of interest include examining stock discreteness, rates of iteoparity (i.e., frequency of reproductive cycles), spawning site fidelity, spawning phenology, migratory behavior, and estimating mortality rates (i.e., fishing and natural). He has also conducted numerous studies evaluating the efficiency and performance of fishery-independent sampling gears and methodologies. Chris received his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Statue University, his master’s degree from Tennessee Technological University and doctorate from Michigan State University

Pro walleye angler Joe Okada stops by the podcast to talk about the fishing industry and his move to H2H fishing and thoughts on their new tournament format.

Joe has been focused on improving as an angler since he was a child. He began working at the local bait shop and running his guide service right out of high school as he prepared to compete at the tour level by the age of 24. Over the last 15 years, he has consistently found himself in the running for AOY titles in the FWL, AIM and NWT tours with several top finishes along the way. To this day, he continues to compete across the walleye belt and fulfills marketing, advertising and product development duties with several fishing/marine manufacturers. Joe enjoys time at home with his wife, Jamie and daughter, Abigail who enjoy the outdoors as much as he does.

"Doc" Bruce Samson has multiple major wins to his credit and is known as the Devil's Lake Master having won the PWT on the lake twice. He also won the MWC National Walleye Championship in 1986 and the RCL National Walleye Championship in 2002. Doc also has 8 major walleye tournament wins including the MWC twice, the PWT 4 times, the AIM once, and the FLW/RCL once.

Doc Samson has a winning formula that has worked for him on both lakes and rivers; this formula includes using today's technology to his advantage on the water. GPS and Sonar technology are common tools in competitive walleye fishing, but few walleye pros have blended the technology with aerial photos, satellite elevation charts, and custom designed contour maps. Doc is one that does this and he does it well with his proven techniques on the tournament trail.

Doc possesses the knowledge and experience to improve others and was honored with the Professional Walleye Trail Norb Wallock Memorial Teaching Award, the "Top PWT Teaching Pro" in 2004.

During a long career spanning the most revolutionary years in sportfishing history, Al Lindner ranks among the most renowned leaders in the fishing industry. He continues to fish avidly for all freshwater fish, averaging about 180 days a year on the water, and is hailed as one of the world’s best all-around anglers.

As the host of Lindner’s Angling Edge and Fishing Edge television series, Al remains immensely popular as one of the best-recognized angling authorities in North America. Al, however, has always worn many hats, and even his most avid fans may not realize the extent of his past and present involvement with all aspects of the fishing business. Other than finding new and better ways to catch fish, that is.

Today, they focus their efforts on Lindner Media Productions, whose client list includes some of the most respected names in the outdoor industry.
