Guest: Shelley Herman, Author & Former NBC Page08 Jan 202400:43:50

There are some of our episodes where the recordings just fly by! And this was one of them.On this edition of Big Conversations, Little Bar, Patrick Evans and Randy Florence welcome former NBC Page and Emmy-nominated writer, Shelley Herman.

Back in the golden days at NBC when Johnny Carson ruled the network, Shelley was an NBC Page which landed her in the Tonight Show studio listening to entertainment history. We say “listening” because she spent the majority of her time with her back to the stage.

The NBC Page program (think Kenneth on 30 Rock) was basically a management training program at the network. Eventually, Shelley was writing successfully for the peacock. There’s some great stories about her time with Peter Marshall and the Hollywood Squares. And you can hear Randy's mind get blown as Shelly shares the secret about the frozen turkeys in the game show Supermarket Sweep. (spoiler alert….they weren’t real).

There’s also some stories about some of less “savory” characters Shelly and other Pages had to deal with. Bill Cosby was an issue already being addressed at NBC during Shelley’s time there. If you’re a TV fan and love the inside stories, this is the episode for you!

Recorded in the Center of the Coachella Valley Universe, Skip Paige’s Little Bar. Hear us on your favorite podcast streaming site!

Guest: Patrick Warburton, Actor01 Jan 202400:39:00

To the rest of the world, he was David Puddy on Seinfeld and he was also The Tick. He’s the voice of Joe in Family Guy, Kronk in The Emperors Groove and you know him as a spokesman for National Car Rental.

But in the Coachella Valley, Patrick Warburton is known for so much more than his credits. He serves as the tournament host for “The Warburton,” one of the largest charity events annually in the desert. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is the beneficiary of this amazing 4-day event that has raised over $26 Million in the last 13 years.

To start off the new 2024 season of Big Conversations, Little Bar,  Patrick Evans and Randy Florence are very excited to have Patrick join them in the now famous corner booth. Warburton shares many stories of his career, but the time is spent mostly diving down into the history of The Warburton tournament and all of the events and celebrities that have made it one of the “must attend” charity commitments of the season.

Recorded at the Center of the Coachella Valley Universe, Skip Paige’s Little Bar. Thanks for joining us again as we begin Season 3 of the #1 podcast recorded in a booth at a bar in Palm Desert!

"Big Conversations, Your Choice" Special Guest: Christina Pascucci, US Senate Candidate05 Dec 202300:28:00

The corner booth at Skip Paige’s Little Bar is rarely a place for politics on this podcast. When the discussion gets there, we try our best to cut that short. But, there are times when we are at a significant crossroads and public policy does impact every citizen. After the passing of U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein, it was clear there would be a series of fresh faces campaigning for her seat. This podcast is not part of our regular series on Big Conversations, Little Bar with Patrick Evans & Randy Florence. First, it will be shorter. Out of fairness, we will offer an open invitation to any candidate for the same office (which must have representation for the Coachella Valley region) to be invited as a guest on the show. There will be no bias for one candidate over another. Welcome now to our special series: Big Conversations, Your Choice.

On this episode, we feature a former Coachella Valley journalist who has continued to be a television reporter and anchor at KTLA Channel 5 in Los Angeles until announcing her bid to fill the seat vacated when Feinstein passed away. Christina Pascucci is a person familiar to many in the Greater Palm Springs area from her time on-air at KMIR Television. Pascucci shares the reasons behind her candidacy, why she believes she is uniquely qualified and how she thinks all of her experiences have brought her to this point. Randy and Patrick ask her if taking on a huge opportunity like this shortly after announcing her pregnancy should have us questioning her sanity. Find out how that exact concern drove Christina to seek the office of U.S. Senator.

Cancer impacts so many lives. Look to the left, right, ahead or behind you and you are likely to see someone whose life has been touched in one way or another by the C-word. And, it sucks!

Dealing with everything from the dark thoughts to the physical challenges motivated this Coachella Valley hero to create Shay’s Warriors.
