Have you ever wondered, “What should I do with my life?” Or, “Should I stay or should I go?” Or, “Is there anyone out there who actually tells the freaking truth about life and work today, but also does not leave me in despair?” Wonder no more! The “Becoming You” podcast has arrived, hosted by Suzy Welch, the business journalist-turned-professor at the helm of NYU’s wildly popular self-discovery class by the same name. A three New York Times best-seller and frequent contributor to the Today Show and the Wall Street Journal, Professor Welch is considered a leading expert on decision-making, and the discovery and pursuit of authentic purpose. But virtually no topic is off-bounds in her irreverent new podcast, from parenting fails (including her own) to perfect poems (none of her own, thank God.) Also included: Pointed opinions on dogs, Gen Z, marriage, credit default swaps, golf skirts, career killing mistakes, and under-appreciated TV shows you really have to see immediately. OK, there is actually nothing in the podcast about credit default swaps. Tune in every week to laugh, learn, get riled up, get calmed down, and basically get closer to becoming you, joyfully, in this crazy, upside-down, scary, messy, and altogether beautiful world we share.

What If a Yellow Dress, in the Pages of Vogue, Told the Story of Your Life? Part 2

mardi 9 juin 2026Durée 40:07

Francesca Pilato did not do what she was told. Not once. Not ever. And in 1929 Rochester, New York, that came with consequences no one in her family would talk about for generations.

This week, your host Suzy Welch finishes the 123-year story of her grandmother — a Sicilian immigrant who survived the unthinkable, built something extraordinary, and left behind a yellow dress that sat untouched on a shelf for 30 years. The question is: why wouldn't Suzy wear it?

The answer has everything to do with two values — not virtues — of Voice and Agency. And the difference between judging the people who shaped you and finally having the compassion to let them be exactly who they were.

Part 2 of 2. The scandal lands. The survival begins. And a dress finds its way home.

What If a Yellow Dress, in the Pages of Vogue, Told the Story of Your Life? Part 1

mardi 2 juin 2026Durée 35:52

A photo in Vogue. A 98-year-old mother's scream of joy. And a 123-year story that begins in a sulfur mine in Sicily and ends — somehow — at New York City's most glamorous luncheon.

This week, your host Suzy Welch starts at the end: a yellow dress, handknit from silk ribbon by her immigrant grandmother, photographed at the Hat Luncheon and published in Vogue. But to understand why that moment meant everything, you have to go back. Way back. We're talking Caltanissetta, Sicily, in 1903, and a family shrouded in secrecy and silence.

Part 1 of this two-part series sets the scene: from the dazzling spectacle of the Hat Luncheon to the gritty, industrial world Suzy's family fought to escape. Next week, the scandal that changed everything.

Your own origin story might look a little different after this one.

FAQs: You Know What You Want. So Why Can't You Get There?

mardi 7 avril 2026Durée 30:42

At some point in the journey of becoming…you, questions are inevitable. Questions about who you are, how you got here, and what it really takes to build a life that feels authentic.

You've done the work. You've taken the tests. You've started asking the hard questions about who you are and what you actually want. And now you're left with a whole new set of questions.

In this FAQ episode, your host Suzy Welch answers everything you’ve been wondering. Why do some people feel more lost after a self-discovery breakthrough than before? What's the hidden score that reveals the gap between the life you're living and the life you actually want — and what does it mean when that gap is huge? When does a passion become a calling, and when is it just a really good hobby? And what do you do when you can see exactly where you're supposed to be going — but getting there feels like too much?

Suzy answers all of it with real stories, zero sugarcoating, and the kind of clarity that makes you want to take notes.

Because figuring out who you are is only the beginning. The interesting part is what comes next.

A Grammar Lesson You Might Just Love

Épisode 8

mardi 25 juin 2024Durée 37:46

In this week’s episode, we ponder, “Are we all just one long list of commas, as we reinvent and reinvent and reinvent ourselves to stay current in this crazy world of ours?” Short answer: Yes! But the longer answer may include a surprise for you, as it certainly surprised Suzy…the inventor? Also this week: two new features. “My Favorite Mistake,” about, hm, well, you know what it’s about. And “Listen Up,” a music tip sheet with a moral to the story. Turn the volume up!

Don’t Ask Me How I Did It, I Just Did It, It Was Hard

Épisode 7

mardi 18 juin 2024Durée 37:42

In this week’s episode, we consider the annoying age-old question, “Why does everything good have to be so stinking hard?” And also, “Was Suzy actually being clueless when she told the Today Show audience that they should all go get themselves fired?” Spoiler alert: No! And that’s not all. The pod this week covers preparing for tough interviews, crabby celebrities, and Suzy’s most creative insults, which she concocts because, really, she loves everyone.

All The Stuff Your Boss Wishes You Knew, But You Don’t

Épisode 6

mardi 11 juin 2024Durée 42:31

What a strange and unnecessary thing it is that people enter the working world mostly clueless about the working world. For instance, school teaches you certain ways of behaving and thinking that will actually get you into a lot of trouble, and it can take the first five to ten years of your career to unlearn them. Or, you can listen to this podcast, and unlearn them in less than an hour. Also: Suzy’s final thoughts on final wishes.

The One When Suzy Says Networking Doesn't Work

Épisode 5

mardi 4 juin 2024Durée 41:47

There are only two things that everyone agrees on in this world. That Dolly Parton is great, and that networking is awful. In this episode, Suzy focuses on the latter, making the case that we should all deep-six stupid, boring, useless small talk in hotel conference rooms for making true friends. Which of course, leads to a long diatribe on her own personal besties. Career advice ensues.
