79 Francesco Farfa17 Jul 202101:05:36
Francesco Farfa has been DJing since the 80s, laying down vital sets of funk, disco & proto-house sounds. The Florence born DJ is a true digger & sound obsessive, armed with decades of experience & musical appreciation, doing what he does best: turning musical emotions and compelling rhythms into dance floor art.  His deck skills & rare knack for selection & sequencing meant he soon became one of Italy’s most famous DJ exports, with his unique skills earning him sets at some of the most prestigious night venues and festivals around the world. From a production perspective, Farfa is always evolving with each new 12″. Timeless sounds that always leave an impression, Farfa’s records have earned a renaissance of late thanks to the support of numerous high-profile players from the scene. Farfa’s music has been called everything from psychedelic techno to cyber-trance, but it is impossible to truly define, with Farfa instead going in whatever direction his heart takes him.
78 Calm03 Jul 202101:06:24
If you love sun-kissed, dreamy music, there's a fair chance that your music collection contains something by Fukagawa Kiyotaka, aka Calm.
The Japanese producer made his debut way back in 1997, joining the dots between nu-jazz, breakbeat & deep house. He has delivered a dizzying number of albums over the last 2 decades, mostly on his own Music Corporation imprint, and more recently on the excellent Hell Yeah! Recordings. The label, a perfect fit for Calm, being a place to find some of the best recent “Balearica”. His album, “By Your Side”, supported by scene big hitters Phil Mison, Chris Coco & Mixmaster Morris.
"The concept of Balearic is still abstract to me," Kiyotaka admits. "There are so many things I do not understand, so I am still collecting records and absorbing information about it like a sponge. I have never been to Ibiza, so I hope to go over and DJ there soon."
We think you’ll agree, after hearing this mix, that Calm’s understanding of Balearic is just perfect.

76 Andy Compton (The Rurals)05 Jun 202101:37:02
Deeply prolific Bristol-based house connoisseur Andy Compton has released over 40 albums & over 180 EPs, (either under his own name or as part of his legendary group The Rurals, COMPTON or L.A.M.P, Blue Dream), on his Peng label & many others.

South Africa has embraced Andy's deep house sounds, & because of his popularity over there, he has toured the country 20 times in the past 5 years.
Since discovering house music in the early 90's, Compton has released a dazzling array of music & worked with an army of artists (from Motown legends to budding underground names). Andy's DJ skills have turned heads and twisted bodies worldwide, with his thumping brew of electronic beats swathed in coolly-crafted melodies, with Peng becoming one of the premiere labels on the planet, garnering support from house big-hitters like Louie Vega, Larry Heard, Mark Farina & Osunlade (to name a few).
All this has solidified Andy's reputation as one of the most respected house music players on the planet.
75 Problematic Disko22 May 202101:04:59
There are blue skies over BTTB HQ this morning, but can neither confirm or deny that this is a side effect of  our latest episode from Problematic Disko.
Who are Problematic Disko? Well, we’ll let them introduce themselves:

“We mix house, disco, acid, deep & the occasional slice of techno, for the freaks, jammers, queens, lovers & all others. We could go on to say things such as 25 blah blah years ago experience behind the blah blah ones & twos, or made people shed tears on the dancefloors circa 94 blah blah. However we’d rather let the music do the talking. Here’s a downtempo beach set with a Problematic Disco twist.”
Bookings/Media /Insults problematicdisko@yahoo.com

We can’t promise blue skies where you are, but why not give it a try?

72 Faint Waves10 Apr 202101:00:03
A proprietor of all things chill, Faint Waves specialises in mellow mood music. In addition to releasing his own unique music, independently, he has had the pleasure of working with labels such as Eclectics, Higher Love Recordings, Real Balearic, NuNorthern Soul, and Cafe Del Mar. As fans of his music, we just had to invite him to BTTB. Sit back, as Faint Waves transports you to a sunlit terrace, at a table with friends, enjoying a café solo, or maybe a caña. Featuring tracks from his recently released “Cabana Edits Vol. 2”, alongside his favourite artists and inspirations, let this mix flow over you, and feel the sunshine.
71 Howler27 Mar 202101:00:16
We first came across Howler via his Balearic Breakdown series on Mixcloud, and knew we had to ask him to provide a mix for BTTB. Since we first spoke, Howler has launched the excellent Balearic t-shirt company Disco Tees, bringing you dancefloor inspired clothing, with a high Balearic quotient. As well as the great t-shirts, the site also has a very informative blog section, which we highly recommend.
You can find Howler out in the wild, so to speak, at this year’s always brilliant Alfresco Festival, where he’ll be playing on the Eclectics stage on Friday 27th of August.
The sun’s shining here at BTTB HQ, and I’m sure you’ll agree, Howler’s mix is just the thing to accompany those blue skies. Get it on and take it easy. It is the weekend after all.

After stunning features with everyone from Juan MacLean to Treasure fingers, and repetitive collaborative work with The Crooked Man & Tim Wagner, DFA’s bad girl rose to international prominence when her first solo single “Never Saw It Coming” blazed up the dance charts, and across dancefloors, especially in the UK with support from Bill Brewster, Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston.

67 Imster30 Jan 202101:32:45

For episode 67, we bring to you this sublime mix from Rotterdam based Imster. We first met Imster at the excellent Electric Elephant festival at The Garden Tisno, in Croatia. In 2017, BTTB's Curtis Randles joined Imster on the bill of The Lost Disco festival on the same site. Some late night conversations about music and life, hearing Imster's selections, and plenty of dancing led to us asking him if he would be interested in providing a mix for you lovely people. Whether it be disco, funk, house or soul, obscure finds or absolute classics, as long as it provides a good feeling, Imster is happy to play it.
This will be come self evident when you sit back and listen to Imster's mix. Inspired by lazy afternoons in Tisno, hopefully his mix will bring some of that Adriatic sunshine to where you are... x

66 Warriors of the Dystotheque19 Dec 202037:14:33
Warriors of The Dystotheque is the brain child of Jonny Mac, who has performed around the world with Phil Hartnoll (Orbital), Leeroy (The Prodigy), and Shaun Ryder & Bez. Jonny has held residencies at Coastline, Savannah, Bar M & Eden in Ibiza playing sunset and breaks. 2019 saw him tour Thailand, including a memorable sunset gig in Koh Samui at The Social. Numerous appearances at V Festival amongst others. His breaks night,  Frequency was a huge hit across the Midlands for the best part of a decade, before Jonny returned home to Ireland in 2011 and shelved “Jonny Mac”.
After a break of a few years he started his new project Warriors of the Dystotheque in 2014 and since then its been steadily making noise with 8 eps and an album “Madness in the Method” all gaining major support from the likes of BBC 6 Music, BBC R1, BBC’s Ulster, Foyle and Coventry as well as Ireland’s RTE2 FM, KEXP.
WotD is unique in that it’s a collaborative project, but none of the collaborators have been in the same country throughout the precess, let alone the same studio. WotD grew from an Anti Social network love of lo-fi jazz based music and electronic DJ and street culture with collaborating artists spanning the globe and musical genres. Their most recent collaboration being with Howie B, entitled “No Borders”, which you may have heard on BTTB’s Amateurism Radio show.

For episode 64, we're proud to bring you this mix from Italy's Matteo.
We first encountered Matteo via his excellent, and very popular Balearic Vibes Mixtape series on Mixcloud. After hearing these, we knew we needed to get a mix from him, and he hasn't dissapointed. The sun's shining here at BTTB HQ, and this mix is the perfect soundtrack.

63 A Tribute To José Padilla01 Nov 202002:10:12

Unfortunately, last month saw the loss of another of our greatest influences here at BTTB. José Padilla, the original DJ at the Café Del Mar. The maestro of the sunset. If the eighties Balearic scene was led by Alfredo, the nineties belonged to José Padilla. His best selling compilations introducing the world to what was possible.
It's true to say that without Señor Padilla's influence, there'd probably be no BTTB, so we couldn't let his passing occur without paying homage to the illustrious DJ and selector.
Andy and Curtis have chosen some of their favourite tracks, both by the man himself, and tunes introduced to them via the famous compilations and legendary mixtapes.
Travel well Maestro, and thank you for the music...

62 Steve Optix24 Oct 202001:00:00

Steve Optix is a, primarily, vinyl DJ, whose tastes span many genres. As a teenager, Steve was heavily influenced by the sounds he picked up emanating from the pirate radio station Kiss FM. Steve has had the chance to play all sorts of sets, beginning in 1993, playing hardcore, jungle & techno. In later years, his refusal to be tied to one genre, his sets would see him playing house, big beat, trip hop, d’n’b, and trance.
No stranger to the radio airwaves himself, Steve has had shows on Kane FM, Spectrum FM, and Red Light Radio in Amsterdam.
Steve is also known for putting on his own nights, such as Backroom Beatz, Funk Phenomena, and Liquid Funk.
Hanging up the headphones to concentrate on his young family, Steve carried on buying records, and in recent years has made a return to the decks, bringing his genre spanning, Balearic tastes to his own Parents Evening and Vinyl Lab events.

61 Pete Fowler11 Oct 202000:57:25

For episode 61, we’re over the moon to bring you a mix from Pete Fowler.
As an artist, Pete is known, most notably, for his long running association with Super Furry Animals, and his Monsterism project. Pete is also a DJ, with gigs as far apart as Japan and Port Meirion, his sets veering from 70’s smooth rock, discoid, balearic debris and more.
Pete is also one half of the deckshoegaze/cosmic disco outfit Seahawks.
Seahawks have been, sailing on solar winds, cooking up their catches and beachcombing for discarded, unwanted and buried treasures. Sometimes too covered in thick tar for most to notice. Psychedelic yacht rock, deck shoegaze, hazy beach pop vibrations and marina drone are all ports of call.
So, as the sun tries to break through the clouds here at BTTB HQ, get yourself something refreshing, sit back and let Pete guide you through his sublime selection.

60 Luc Forlorn27 Sep 202000:59:50

Luc Forlorn is a musician, composer and producer from the UK, who focuses on house, lounge, chillout, and ambient music. He is also very proudly one half of Lyfe&Daze, a collaboration project with his friend Jean Dovy.

When Luc discovered music production software he was granted the opportunity to experiment with a multitude of instrument sounds and record music with them. It has been a long road of discovery but he has worked to create and master a sonic soundscape which is uniquely his.

Luc has a long-term ambition to create powerful and emotional music which tells a story and takes the listener on a journey. He also aspires to take his compositions from his home studio to the world stage and perform with talented musicians around the world. His compositions blend the piano and orchestral instruments with the more contemporary, including samples, synthesizers, and electronic and ethnic instruments.

86 A Deeper Groove27 Nov 202101:00:25
A Deeper Groove was born in a flat on the south side of Glasgow, creating a  sound that is an amalgamation of influences & cultures from 30+ years on the dancefloor & in the booth. Joc and Steph began A Deeper Groove, a website then club night that showcase their sound as well as many like-minded guests. Spinning in various clubs around the country & being residents at the Vocal Booth Weekender in Spain, the boys can also be heard on Pressure Radio. 59 Paul Kerry12 Sep 202001:26:45

Paul Kerry, or 'Kuz' as he is more widely known, has been kicking around the North East music scene for the best part of thirty years, from living & playing in Ibiza for almost eight years to playing the clubs and bars of Newcastle. Since family life and working away has caught up with him, he would probably consider himself more of a bedroom DJ now. This said, from time to time he gets to play at some of the city's best underground nights warming up for the likes of Optimo, Manpower and his good friends Last Waltz.
"This mix is one of those where you dig a few records out that you haven't listened to for a while and see what happens. I was definitely thinking about relaxing with an ice cold beer in the garden... Enjoy x"

Musically, Phil is celebrated for his diverse approach to music. While at home championing the seductive, sun-kissed sounds released on his NuNorthern Soul label. Away from the dancefloor, he’s best known for NuNorthern Soul & other current imprint, Through God’s Own Eyes.
NuNorthern Soul is on a fine run of form, with cracking releases & catalogue compilations.
Now residing in Ibiza with regular sunset sessions at La Torre, Phat Phil Cooper remains someone who lives & breathes music, showcases sounds he loves and promotes artists who inspire him.

56 Neil Craven01 Aug 202001:05:48

For episode 56, we're pleased to welcome Neil Craven, and let him introduce himself: "Initially falling into dance music through the sounds of the late Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles and loving the soulful house and disco sounds they played, it progressed into a love of pretty much all forms of dance music. From the Old Skool 88-92 sounds that brought Acid House to the masses, to the early progressive sounds of the likes of labels such as Stress, Jackpot, Bedrock and Skinnymalinkey. Starting to DJ in 1994 but only going for 3 years before taking a 17 year break from all clubbing and DJing and starting up again back in 2014. Initially playing Old Skool gigs for a while and building back from there. I listen to and play all sorts. Old Skool, Techno, House, Progressive, Disco and Edits."

55 Eva Crystaltips18 Jul 202000:59:11

French born, Edinburgh based DJ, Eva Crystaltips is spreading her love for disco music with a hint of 'je ne sais quoi'.
A force to be reckoned with, and rising fast through the ranks on the disco circuit, her early years have already seen her play alongside heavyweights such as Horse Meat Disco, Hot Chip & Greg Wilson. Eva has gained some well due recognition over the past few years for her skill and selections and was subsequently selected last year to be part of the Smirnoff Equalising Music Programme seeing her take to stages at Snowbombing, Lost Village Festival & most notably a huge gig at London's 5000 capacity Printworks - with project mentors Artwork, The Black Madonna, Peggy Gou, Honey Dijon & more.

53 Andy Carroll20 Jun 202001:24:06

In his early days Andy's unique understanding of music, no matter where it's roots were, made him one of the UK's most popular DJs. His ability to mix genres still sets him apart from many of his peers. Whilst  Balearic was sweeping clubs in the south, Andy's philosophy of playing good music was making a name for himself in the north; along with DJ partner Mike Knowler at nightclub The State. 1986 saw Mike go to America introducing Andy to the new sound known as House on his return. The two embarked on a mission fuelled by the House & Garage sounds of Chicago, Detroit & New York. As the Acid House Rave-o-lution went ballistic across the UK, Andy was invited to DJ by Mike at what became the now legendary Quadrant Park.
Andy, alongside James Barton & Darren Hughes, would be responsible for the birth of one of the world's biggest clubbing brands, Cream. With Andy being resident DJ for over 10 years .
Here we present a recording of Andy, live at Ibiza's Sunset Ashram.

49 Mark Day (Balearic Assassins of Love)17 Apr 202001:00:00

We’re back, with some beautiful sunshine music for you from Mark Day from The Balearic Assassins Of Love, a hirsute raggle taggle DJ collective from various corners of the UK.
BAOL are a collective of vinyl junkies comprising of former BTTB guest selector, Steve KIW, King Sunny Ade P, Mark D and Picko-d. They worship at the Technics altar of sunrise and the quadraphonic wickerman of sunset-like 80s Kicker-shod party druids. Channeling ley-lines from Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads they encapsulate the spirit of acid house, the emotional joy of pop and the laid-back loose feel of the White Isle with whatever music works for them there and then! Forever on an eternal quest to slay the dragon of segregation and the pigeon-hole of pretense they gather frequently and mix together musical forms as diverse as hypno Latvian Acid Skiffle, Mystic Tibetan Yacht Rock and Hokus Pocus Voodoo Shizzle to create that eclectic, highly danceable, couldn’t care less, ‘last day of the holiday’ feel so beloved of British People in Hot Weather. BAOL were once famously described as “A cross between the opening party at Amnesia and the last days of Sodom and Gommorah”.

Happy New Year to you all, and to kick off 2020, we've got a corker of a mix from the man Juno described as a contender for "nu-disco don of 2019", Andy Buchan. Andy is a DJ of over 20 years, a disco/edit/house producer par excellence, and music journalist based in Leeds.

Andy's productions have seen him rack up 3 Juno No.1s, 12 Beatport Top 10s,  and releases on Midnight Riot, Hot Digits, Masterworks, Alpaca Edits and more, with an original 3 track EP due to drop this year on Citizens of Vice.

45 Balearic Ultras23 Nov 201901:00:43

We're pleased to hand over the reins of episode 45 to our friend down in Brighton: Balearic Ultras. With his own, long standing radio show on the mighty 1BTN, he's a regular on the city's strong Balearic scene, regulalry appearing at the likes of the seafront Fortune Of War, amongst others.

44 Michael E09 Nov 201900:59:00

For episode 44, we're proud to bring you the sunshine sounds of Michael E.

Learning piano at an early age, a teenage Michael, inspired by the reaction he had to the music of Motown, knew he wanted to get involved in making music with others. By his late teens he’d played with various cover bands and toured Europe.

Finding covers uninspiring, Michael knew he wanted to make his own music. Composing originally for solo piano, the advent of production software allowed him to paint the soundscapes of musical worlds, previously unavailable to him with a single instrument.

In 2006, Michael dedicated his life to music full time. Since then, he has released an astonishing 21 albums, and appeared on over 1250 compilations. Michael says, "Music is wonderful and I’m so lucky to be a part of it."

43 Pocket Size Dave26 Oct 201900:57:08

Episode 43 comes from DJ & producer, regular at the Beat-Herder festival, (where he first came to our attention), and all-round nice guy, Pocket Size Dave.
Dave has been honing his DJ skills since ‘99, when he started promoting club nights in his home town of Huddersfield. He quickly started to pick up bookings and moved on to hold residences at city centre bars and started working with reputable underground sound systems. He is equally at home worming up chilly warehouse raves as he is providing a 5 hour set in a ski resort night club. In the last few years he’s been playing out 5 nights a week in Val d’Isere, France, and running a regular club night sponsored by ski clothing brand “Planks”.
