Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness changes 11 Nov 202401:03:16

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness (Guide) is a document that helps explain how to keep vehicles roadworthy. It is intended for use by operators, drivers, and others responsible for maintaining commercial and passenger vehicles. As we mentioned in our BACK on air webinar on 1 November 2024, we have been expecting the Guide to be updated and this has now been released.

To take the hassle out of you working out what has changed and also to encourage thought provoking debate around the important issue of maintenance, we talk through the changes in this podcast.

When one of your staff makes a mistake, do you turn a blind eye or is it the case that you've had enough and wild horses won't stop you from disciplining them? Don't get left out in the cold! Self employed drivers, maintenance issues, ESG procurement policies14 Feb 202301:04:07

Don't be left out in the cold by confusing the employment status of your drivers. Current HMRC guidance suggests that it will be ‘very rare’ that a commercial vehicle driver will be genuinely self-employed (regardless of the label given to the relationship) and Traffic Commissioners now scrutinise the arrangements operators have in place for engaging their drivers. So called ‘self-employed’ drivers are a major concern for HMRC and the Traffic Commissioners and can result in serious tax consequences as well as findings of loss of good repute.  This week the team discussed:

  • self-employed drivers and the implications for operators;
  • maintenance issues and Public Inquiries; and
  • what operators need to know about certain ESG procurement requirements for entering into contracts with large companies.
