Doom and Salvation: Process in the Age of AI | Ilya Gefter
Épisode 24
dimanche 4 décembre 2022 • Durée 01:16:13
Today’s conversation has been eye opening for me, and one of the best I had in a long time. I hope you’ll find it as fruitful as I did. Today we discuss the future of painting, and specifically the chances of the field’s survival in light of the upcoming AI apocalypse. We managed to sketch out a few early signs for hope. Can painting continue guarding the fortress against the robot barbarians at the gate? Stay tuned…
We are very fortunate to have the great Ilya Gefter back on the podcast. Ilya Gefter is a painter, art educator and the founder and director of the Visual Art Center in Tel-Aviv, Israel. Ilya has shown in 14 solo exhibitions before he was 40, he’s won numerous prestigious awards, and his work can be found in notable public collections in the US, Canada, Spain, and Israel. He has written for Ha’artez newspaper, and has done curatorial work for Rothschild Gallery in Tel Aviv. Ilya is an exceptional artist and thinker and a tremendous inspiration to me, so I’m very excited to bring his voice and his ideas to all of you.

Why Baroque Masters Are Cooler | Will St. John
Épisode 11
mardi 16 mars 2021 • Durée 01:24:23
Will St. John is one of my favorite living painters. This is the point at which I list selected biographical information that I find on the guest’s “About” page, but Will doesn’t have an "About" page. He doesn’t even have a website as far as I’ve been able to discern. I reached out to Will to ask him how he’d like to be introduced, and he provided me with the finest bio of all time: “Will St. John is a badass artist. Women desire him; strong men want to be him. The world’s elite cultural institutions pursue him, but he eludes their advances: he’s too busy being spectacular.”

Art and What Makes Us Human | AMA #2
Épisode 10
lundi 1 mars 2021 • Durée 01:41:40
This is my favorite episode to date! I speak with Alex Castilla, an incredibly accomplished experimental physicist, a student of painting, and one of my Patreon supporters. This episode is a mentorship session I had with Alex: he asked me brilliantly incisive questions about painting and I did my best to cover them in the most in-depth way possible. Alex requested that we make this mentorship session public so that everyone may benefit from it, so you should be thankful to him for the release of this episode.

Lessons From the Tattoo World | Jesse Smith
Épisode 9
jeudi 11 février 2021 • Durée 01:12:10
Jesse Smith is a decorated tattoo artist. You might know him from season two of Ink Master - now available on Netflix. His work is absolutely incredible, and the show is really fun, I recommend checking it out. Jesse’s won numerous awards for his tattoo work and has been featured in almost every tattoo publication out there. He tattoos at his own shop in Richmond, Virginia called Loose Screw Tattoo, and although he is no longer taking on new clients, he is always taking submissions for future clients, so if you are interested in getting tattooed by him in the future, you can do so via the Contact section of his website.

All About Technique | AMA #1
Épisode 7
jeudi 24 décembre 2020 • Durée 58:23
If you’re a student of the craft, you’re going to love this one. I don’t have a guest, or rather I don’t have a single guest, instead I have a panel of my Patreon supporters asking me their most pressing questions about painting and drawing, and I provide the most thorough answers I can, including my maximally nerdy analysis.
