The Fat Camp That Became An Underworld Camp Shame The Podcast From Kelsey Snelling27 juil. 202500:19:03
"Camp Shame" is an eight-episode investigative series that delves into the darker aspects of Camp Shane's operations. Snelling, through meticulous research and heartfelt interviews, exposes how the camp, under the guise of promoting health, often pushed children to their physical and emotional limits. The podcast critically examines the systemic issues and societal pressures that allowed such practices to persist for over half a century.Central to the podcast are the firsthand accounts of former campers. These individuals recount experiences of being subjected to extreme diets, intense physical regimens, and psychological tactics aimed at enforcing conformity to narrow beauty standards. Many describe lasting impacts, including struggles with body image, self-esteem, and mental health. Snelling's compassionate storytelling ensures that these voices are heard, validated, and contextualized within broader societal issues.Beyond the confines of Camp Shane, "Camp Shame" serves as a commentary on the pervasive culture of fatphobia and the commodification of weight loss. The podcast challenges listeners to reflect on how societal obsessions with thinness can lead to harmful practices, especially when targeted at vulnerable populations like children. It also questions the ethics of for-profit institutions that capitalize on these obsessions without adequate oversight or concern for long-term well-being.Episodes available here:Https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1119-camp-shame-272594326/

Bestseller Author Steve Berry Energizes Time In His Brand New Book The List25 juil. 202500:09:07
In the vein of David Baldacci, John Grisham, and Harlan Coben—this is Steve Berry like you’ve never read him before. After a ten-year self-imposed exile, Brent Walker is returning home to Concord, a quaint town in central Georgia nestled close to the Savannah River. Two years ago, his father died, and now Brent, hired by Southern Republic Pulp and Paper Company as its assistant general counsel, is returning to care for his ailing mother. For decades, Southern Republic has invested heavily in Concord, creating a thriving community where its employees live, work, and retire. But the genteel sheen of this quiet town is deceiving, and when a list of cryptic code surfaces, Brent starts to see the cracks. Southern Republic’s success is based largely on a highly unorthodox and deadly system to control costs, known only to the three owners of the company.  Now, one of them, Christopher Bozin, has had a change of heart. Brent’s return to Concord, a move Bozin personally orchestrated, provides his conscience with a chance at redemption. A plan is set into motion, one that will not only criminally implicate Bozin’s two partners but also place Brent Walker square in the crosshairs of men who want him dead—with only one course left available -to find and reveal the shocking secret of the list.

Shark Week Drugged Up Bears Cocaine Hippos Forrest Gallante Is Known For Going Real Deep23 juil. 202500:10:21
Forrest Galante was born on March 31st, 1988 in California, but within the first few months of his life moved to Harare, Zimbabwe. He grew up on a productive farm that cultivated luxury alstroemeria flowers, various fruits and was home to a myriad of livestock and wild African animals. As a child, Galante's favorite pastimes included catching snakes, fishing in the dam, breeding guinea pigs and playing rugby. When he wasn't enjoying life on the farm, his mother would take him and his sister on safari in the African bush. As one of Africa's first female safari guides and bush pilots, Galante's mother took her children to explore some of the most remote parts of Africa, collecting artifacts and observing wildlife. Galante was enthralled by all wildlife and knew he would one day pursue a career with animals. At age 14, Galante was the youngest person to ever lead an international canoe safari down the Zambezi River. In 2001, Galante's world was turned upside down when terrible political turmoil in Zimbabwe caused their farm to be seized. They were forcefully evicted from their home in the middle of the night and fled the country of Zimbabwe. With only a suitcase each and a couple hundred dollars, Galante and his family returned to California to the small town of Cayucos, and later Santa Barbara.Galante turned to free diving and spearfishing as a way to adjust to his new life in California. Over time and as his skills developed, Galante made a name for himself in the underwater community. He traveled to various countries to participate in spearfishing events and today holds six pole spear world records. Along the way, Galante also got certified as a SCUBA dive master, a 100-ton ship captain, and an EMT. In 2009, he graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in biology; special emphasis in marine biology and herpetology. The year after his college graduation, Galante took a year to travel the world. He visited 46 of the most remote places on earth to work with and photograph rare wildlife. Along his journey, he caught crocodiles, dove with white sharks, photographed venomous snakes, outsmarted a startled hippo, dodged a cyclone, and had countless other adventures-but also was hospitalized multiple times.Upon returning to California, Galante pursued a career in high-risk wildlife biology fieldwork, always focusing on animals on the brink of extinction. In 2014, he participated in Discovery's hit show, Naked and Afraid and scored one of the highest PSRs (primate survival rating) ever on the show. Galante's hands-on approach to wildlife, passion for nature and extraordinary background eventually led to the development of his own television show, Extinct or Alive, on Animal Planet. The show followed Galante as he travels the globe searching for animals he believes have wrongfully been deemed extinct.

History Under The Influence Sam Kelly's New Book Human History On Drugs19 juil. 202500:15:43
Alexander the Great. George Washington. William Shakespeare. Queen Victoria. What do all of these people all have in common? Not just that they’re commonly in every student’s history class, but what’s left out of the textbook: they all routinely used drugs. They got drunk, stoned, high—and they aren’t the only ones. Historian and viral TikToker Sam
Kelly
Kelly covers 40 historical figures in 40 chapters, starting in Ancient Greece and imperial China through modern day. His viral TikTok account has proven the voracious appetite for these uncovered histories, with more than 100k followers and 2.4 million likes, and HUMAN HISTORY ON DRUGS expands upon his most successful videos while also offering tons of brand-new content.Hysterical, reflective, and illuminating, Kelly introduces readers to the history that isn’t included in school’s curriculums. He covers well-known historical figures but introduces new angles to their stories that most people don’t know about—such as William Shakespeare’s fondness for cannabis, Sigmund Freud’s love affair with cocaine, and Steve Jobs’ endorsement
of the benefits of LSD. He shares amazing true stories that will blow the most ardent history fans away, from how one of the most prolific creators of psychedelic drugs was on the DEA payroll, to the CIA allegedly doing sinister experiments with LSD on the college kid who became the Unabomber, to the pope who drank cocaine wine to fortify himself “when prayer was insufficient,” and more.Perfect for fans of bite-sized history, like Bad Days in History and Lies My Teacher Told Me, but also fit for hardcore history buffs, HUMAN HISTORY ON DRUGS is a punchy, easy-to-pick-up read the entire way through. History is rife with drug use and drug users, and HUMAN HISTORY ON DRUGS takes us through those highs (pun intended) and lows on a wittily entertaining ride that uncovers their seriously unexpected impact on our past.

Since Corvus Lore's inception in 2015, their goal has been to write music that is memorable, inspiring, and possesses the perfect blend of the various styles of rock music that they grew up on — keeping original rock music alive today. And people in the music industry are taking note. SoundwavesTV has referred to Corvus Lore as the Bay Area's buzz-worthy band in 2023. The Good The Bad And The Ugly Shawn Levy's New Book Clint The Man And The Movies17 juil. 202500:09:46
CLINT is the first major biography of Eastwood in over twenty years. Two of the most prominent earlier biographies were both comprehensive in covering the work and the life, but approached Eastwood with wildly different perspectives. One was fawning and overly respectful, ignoring any of Eastwood's faults, while the other one came at Eastwood harshly and didn't reckon with Eastwood as an actor and director as much as it focused on his personal missteps and failings. These books were also, obviously, unable to cover the substantial and award-winning work that Eastwood has produced in the 21st century. In covering the life and work of Eastwood, Levy's CLINT takes the middle ground, "where Clint and his work could be described and evaluated from a position of neither acquiescence nor denigration. It was possible for a book to celebrate the man and his work and deeds while acknowledging the flaws-and worse-in him, his choices, and, yes, his films."In a career spanning more than six decades, Clint Eastwood has captured the rugged essence of American manhood and morality, both on and off the screen. We picture him most immediately as he has appeared to us on screen: squinting through cigarillo smoke in A Fistful of Dollars or The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly imposing rough justice at the point of a .44 Magnum in Dirty Harry; sowing moral vengeance in The Outlaw Josey Wales or Pale Rider; abandoning farming for murder-for-hire in Unforgiven; grudgingly training a woman boxer in Million Dollar Baby; standing up for his neighbors despite his racism toward them in Gran Torino. But those are roles, however well-cast and convincing, and they are two-dimensional in comparison to the whole life. The reality of Clint Eastwood is far more rich, knotty, and absorbing-a saga of cunning, determination, and conquest, a great American story about a man ascending to the Hollywood pantheon while keeping a gimlet eye on its ways and habits and one foot firmly planted outside its door.Yet, the story of Clint Eastwood is far more than his cinematic characters. As a director, he has crafted masterful narratives, winning thirteen Oscars, including two for Best Picture. His films explore American cultural and political climates with depth and understanding, embodying the contradictions and triumphs of contemporary America. But beyond the screen, who is Clint Eastwood?

2024 How Trump Retook The Whitehouse And The Democrats Lost America From Tyler Pager16 juil. 202500:08:47
"The whole world was against me, and I won," said Donald Trump in an exclusive interview, ten days before his second inauguration. Nearly four years after Trump's first turbulent presidency concluded in a violent attempt to overturn the election, he made a political comeback on a scale that stunned the nation. How did the first U.S. president to become a convicted felon regain control of the White House? And at what cost? In 2024, award-winning reporters Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager, and Isaac Arnsdorf bring us the definitive and explosive account of how Trump and his advisers overcame a dozen primary challengers, four indictments, two assassination attempts, and his own past mistakes to defeat the Democrats, and pave the way for a second term that would be far more emboldened and revenge-fueled than the first.Drawing on extraordinary access to the Trump, Biden, and Harris teams, 2024 takes readers beyond the speeches, rallies, and debates to reveal the innermost workings of the Republican and Democratic presidential campaigns. Beginning in August 2022 with the FBI's search of Mar-a-Lago for classified documents, and Trump's subsequent decision to run once again for president, Dawsey, Pager, and Arnsdorf chart how Trump stifled the rise of Republican opponents, including Ron DeSantis, and how his campaign, led by Susie Wiles, landed on a winning strategy. They reveal in unrivaled detail how Joe Biden and his team brushed off concerns about his age, ignored polling numbers, and held off the next generation of eager Democratic hopefuls-even as Biden was dealing with his own special counsel investigation and the trial of his son Hunter. After his disastrous debate performance forced him to withdraw, Biden anointed Vice President Kamala Harris as the candidate and tasked her with running the shortest presidential campaign in modern U.S. history. With only 107 days to distinguish herself from the past four years, Harris lacked the time or space to outrun Biden's shadow-a challenge in and of itself, but one which Biden would make even more difficult. On November 5th, 2024, Trump was elected the nation's forty-seventh president, and would return to power vindicated, emboldened, unrestrained, and burning for revenge. Gripping, revelatory, and deeply reported, 2024 is the remarkable inside story of one of the most consequential elections of our lifetime, the results of which will test American democracy and shape the future of the free world.

The Moment You Learn You Aren't America's Top Model Sarah Hartshorne14 juil. 202500:15:52
In this revealing memoir, a fan favorite America's Next Top Model contestant pulls back the curtain on the iconic but deeply flawed reality competition show, exposing the manipulation and chaos behind the scenes.Tyra Banks's America's Next Top Model was a cultural phenomenon with more than six million weekly viewers at its peak. Over its fifteen-year run, the show captured the glitz of the early aughts as well as its most toxic attitudes-from the glamorous but often questionable photo shoots to the cutting feedback from its highly respected if out-of-touch judges. But as its fans have grown up and as the next generation discovers ANTM, they've also begun to reckon with the enduring ways that the show has affected their body image and self-esteem.Sarah Hartshorne would have never guessed that her first foray into modeling would start with being blindfolded alongside three dozen other girls on a charter bus winding through Puerto Rico. In You Wanna Be On Top?, Cycle 9's only plus-size contestant takes us into the heart of the unforgiving auditions; the labyrinthian cruise ship the girls weren't allowed to enjoy; and, of course, the L.A. "model house" teeming with hidden cameras and elaborately constructed tensions. As the season unfolds and the producers' interview questions about her weight and her opinions of the other girls become increasingly pointed, Hartshorne uncovers the destabilizing methods employed to film "reality."Drawing on her experience as well as interviews with other contestants and production crew, Hartshorne answers the questions you always wanted to ask: Why didn't the house have a microwave or a dishwasher? Why did girls regularly faint during eliminations? Which judge was the meanest off camera? Why is it that the girls had their most meaningful conversations in closets? (Answer: It was the one place camera crews couldn't fit.)With tender honesty and sharp wit, Hartshorne dissects the iconic show with an unflinching gaze that refuses to smize.

With this book fans can immerse themselves in the Grateful Dead’s formative years, from their humble beginnings as a local band to their rise to global stardom, the era when they developed their pioneering musical style and their legendary live performances. Jim Marshall took more than 6,000 pictures of the Grateful Dead over the course of his career—from electrifying photos of the Dead performing for masses of fans to intimate moments of band members rehearsing and creating together to casual domestic scenes. Marshall’s instinctive eye matched the Dead’s improvisational style, and he was welcomed into its family as a peer, colleague, and friend. Back To The Frontier On MAX Lina Jereme And Mia Hall Have Sacrificed It All12 juil. 202500:19:50
Magnolia Network announced the premiere date for their new series Back to the Frontier, set to debut July 10, 2025 on Magnolia Network and Max. The series, executive produced by Chip and Joanna Gaines, follows three American families as they reimagine their lives as 1880s homesteaders, challenged to forgo the comforts of the present day for a more analog life on the frontier. "This series taps into something we've always believed-that stepping away from the noise of everyday life can bring you closer to what matters most," said Chip and Joanna Gaines. "It is proof that no matter where you find yourself, the most important part of home is the people you share it with." In the series, three families hailing from across the country join together in the wilderness surrounded by ten thousand acres of nature, without the modern conveniences of technology, running water, or electricity. The Lopers (Alabama), Hanna-Riggs (Texas), and Halls (Florida) must live on the frontier for eight weeks, reinforcing their own shelters, raising livestock, collecting food, and rationing their supplies. Through this immersive experience, the families will have to reflect on their relationships and navigate the challenges that come with an 1880s lifestyle. "This exciting new series invites viewers to step back in time and experience the challenges of the American frontier," said Magnolia Network President Allison Page. "By immersing three families in the realities of 1880s life, we provided them-and our viewers-an authentic glimpse into the resilience and grit required to survive. Making this series has been an unforgettable journey, and we trust audiences will find it both captivating and inspiring." Back to the Frontier will roll out with one installment weekly over the course of its eight-week series run. In the final episode, the audience will learn whether each of the families succeeded in the challenge of gathering enough resources for the homestead to make it through the winter and which families might not have made it on the frontier. "Going back to the frontier, it's going to be life-changing for all of us," one contestant says, while another adds, "We want to go backward so that we can go forward in the right direction." While the women and girls wipe away their makeup, kids place their video game systems and laptops in plastic bins, one parent says, "I want my kids to learn humility and hard work." The families then see their simple lodgings, and one woman expresses her shock at the bathroom situation. "We sit on that?" she asks. There's a lot of sweat - be it from farming, milking cows or other daily tasks - and even a few tears along the way, with some adjusting to the setting. "One out of three families fail when they're on the homestead, so we need to work together," one man says, leading to a montage of the three families helping each other accomplish tasks. Check out the trailer: Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrDuxOSG2XY
