Are we still around Jesus when He tells us to forgive, to change, or to surrender something we don’t want to let go of?The different soils reveal the danger of becoming familiar with Christianity without being transformed by it. The seed on the path reminds us how easily the Word can bounce off our hearts when we become so accustomed to sin that it no longer bothers us. The rocky ground shows what happens when our faith has no depth—when Christianity becomes difficult and tribulation comes, we fall away. The thorns reveal how the concerns and distractions of the world can slowly choke out what God has planted in us.The danger is not simply refusing to hear God’s Word. In this week’s sermon, When God Shouts, we explore what happens when we become so familiar with Scripture that we stop hearing the truth of God’s Word.

Many of the struggles we face come from holding onto old identities, past failures, or false beliefs about ourselves. Yet through the grace of God, we have continual access to Him. As 2 Corinthians 3:18 teaches, we are being transformed into His likeness as we behold Him. The invitation is to pray with confidence, “Lord, help me to see what You see in me,” and to allow Him to reshape our desires so that they become more like His.

The sermon also calls believers to leave behind the old ways of living. Referencing Colossians, Bien-Aime reminds us that walking in our new identity means putting to death our relationship with sin and intentionally removing ourselves from places and patterns that give sin access to our lives. This is not about striving for perfection, but about embracing the new wineskin that God has given us—a life continually being renewed and prepared to walk with Jesus, both now and for eternity.

In this week’s sermon on the encounter between Jesus, the Pharisees, and the tax collector Levi, Luke Peters reflects on the tension between religious reputation and the transforming grace of Christ. The Pharisees questioned Jesus’ decision to associate with tax collectors because they viewed them as people who had compromised their allegiance, integrity, and witness by working for the Roman authorities. Their judgement was shaped by Levi’s reputation, believing that his occupation defined both his character and his loyalty.

The message reminds us that a person’s job does not automatically make them a sinner, but it does invite us to consider where our ultimate loyalty lies. The Pharisees were right to recognise corruption where it existed, yet they failed to see beyond the external labels they had placed on people. Jesus responded differently. Rather than avoiding those caught in sin and brokenness, He chose to sit with them, demonstrating that His mission was to bring healing and restoration. Christ never ignored sin, but He distinguished the sinner from the sin, extending grace while calling people into transformation.

Luke also highlights that meaningful relationships are often built side by side rather than face to face. Sharing everyday activities and finding common ground can create opportunities for genuine connection and discipleship. Just as Jesus met people where they were, believers are called to engage others with compassion, allowing relationships to become a pathway through which the love and truth of Christ are experienced.
