Marion McKeone’s 2022 Irishman In America Awards Show & News Review23 Dec 202201:05:51
Marion McKeone leads comedian Jarlath Regan through the biggest news stories of the year that was 2022, picks her biggest losers and biggest winners, and announces her hilarious categories in our most hotly anticipated episode in months. The 2022 Awards show is not a black tie event but the honour of being named Marion's "gobshite of the year" was as hotly contested as any Oscar campaign. Jar and Marion butt heads on the movie of the year, who should P.F.O and dig into the hardest news story she had to cover over the past 12 months. There's the winner of the "Smug Bastard" award and a look at whether the midterms really were the new beginning or just a short reprieve. A brief reminder at the top of the show that final tickets for Jarlath's live show in Dublin on January 7th have now been released. Grab a pair for yourself here. It's going to be great. Sarah Lavin - Taking Your Second Chance - The Big Interview (Part 1)18 Dec 202200:31:00
You can feel the gratitude glowing off Sarah Lavin when you talk to her. Maybe that's because she knows in her heart, better than most athletes, how close the end can be. She watched all her Olympic dreams crumble one day when she rolled her ankle in a freakishly simple turn on an indoor track. Broken hearted after previously piecing herself back together from other injuries, she had to resign herself to the fact the Tokyo games were gone from her grasp. Everything changed with COVID. The sad circumstances that prevented the games from taking place allowed her the time to recover, train, refocus and climb into the top 40 hurdlers in the planet.    This week she spoke to me from her training camp about her first steps in athletics, the temptations of alcohol in Ireland, second chances, Gerard Hartman, patience, presence and the mad thoughts that go through her head on the start line.   Part 2 of this interview can be found at www.patreon.com/irishmanabroad — If you’d like to contact me, that is easy too. Irishman In America - Thanksgiving Special Episode - Optimism In America25 Nov 202200:35:45

As the States wind down for a couple of days of rest, gratitude and food appreciation, Marion reflects on the shift towards optimism in the nation on certain issues and the resignation to reality on others. With more mass shootings than days in the year 2022, how close is a ban on automatic weapons? One person who might not have the most restful Thanksgiving is Kevin McCarthy. Marion reflects on his grandstanding ways and how dumb he looks when spewing spiteful words about the undeniable imprint of Nancy Pelosi. Stupidity was the order of the day this week when the scam artist formerly known as President Trump attempted the Homer Simpson excuse for stealing confidential documents from the White House. Jarlath and Marion take a moment on this holiday to wonder if his supposedly vast support base might be beginning to fizzle now that season two of this cabaret act is looking a little predictable. Finally Marion digs into Taylor Swift's Ticketmaster debacle. Why has it taken this long for lawmaker to recognise a monopoly this obvious? Will they do anything about it or will they be bought off again by seats up front at Harry Styles.

Irishman In America - Lake Fear. Is Kari Really That Scary? (Part 1)04 Nov 202200:33:01

Is Kari Lake the new face of MAGA Republicanism? Who is she? And why are Democrats so fearful of her. Marion McKeone has been out on the campaign trail to witness what makes this candidate so similar and yet so different from those that have come before her. Many believe she will be Trump's running mate in 2024. But could the big Orange guy handle a woman like Kari or will she fall into line and "know her place"?

In second half of the discussion exclusive to Patreon supporters, we look at why the violent break in at Nancy Pelosi's residence has been viewed so lightly by some and so seriously by others, the attempt by the Supreme Court to end affirmative action and laws intended to prevent intimation at the polls as the midterms loom large. Is violence inevitable? Will the results of these elections be accepted by candidates who don't believe the current system of voting is fair? Finally Marion recommends a brilliant new book on Sam Adams by Stacy Schiff. (Don't forget to book your tickets for January 6th's filming of my new standup special in Dublin. Marion is going to be there. So should you.) — Why not submit a question for Marion. 1. Donald Trump Found Guilty! - Irishman In America With Marion McKeone31 May 202400:32:11

Donald Trump has indeed been found guilty of all 34 counts of falsifying business records in a criminal hush-money scheme to influence the outcome of the 2016 election. Were you surprised? Marion McKeone explains the implications of the verdict to me. We examine how we got to this day, how it might impact swing voters, will Eric Trump ever get a hug, how likely are we to see this thing overturned or DJT on the side of a freeway picking up cans with a stick. In a week when pressure mounted on beleaguered President Biden to change his approach with Israel, isn't all this just a distraction from what is really important in the world right now?

Irishman In America - Midterms Countdown & Kanye’s Meltdown (Part 1)26 Oct 202200:36:58

Marion McKeone, US Correspondent for the Sunday Business Post, examines the latest events, key races and moments in the lead up to the midterms. Is the red wave going to materialise? Marion explains why it might be too close to call. Why have 12 million Americans already voted and why is voter intimidation rampant in some states. 2.3% growth in the US economy? That can't be right? Or can it. Kanye West's pattern of petulance and self-promotion backfires once and for all. Marion and Jarlath sift through the pieces and wonder why it took this long.
