Season 2: Episode 31 (3/30/22) - A Lot Of Talent In One Room30 Mar 202201:31:40

Send us Fan Mail

ATB was fortunate enough to have Mindful Ales, Timber Ales and Fire & Beer in one room at the same time.  Dave and Jason are masters of their respective styles and that was not lost on this episode.   If you haven't been trying for Jason's coveted stouts now is the time!  It still may be tough, or rather impossible, to get a Mindful Ale but there are places to seek out these beautiful beers and there could be one on the horizon you can get your hands on.  Also, if you follow Fire and Beer on IG you have likely seen many of Marcel's delicacies.  Tune in to find out how he got so damn good at cooking meat and where you might be able to try som in the near future.  ATB had a great time and we could not be more thankful that these talented individuals gave us a few hours of their time.

Please enjoy this episode responsibly...whatever that means.

Season 2: Episode 30 (3/23/22) - March Madness With Lorenzo24 Mar 202200:53:17

Send us Fan Mail

ATB opens up the show with a classic segment of "What Even Is Beer?"  All the OG listeners of the show should remember this segment.  After the first break Scott calls in to discuss Hops Scotch Bottle Shop Craft Beer Bracket, Untappd Brewery Madness Bracket and....Festivals.  Here's a hint, if you can't be in two places at once, you're going to miss a couple.  And last but not least this week's releases from local to national.  There are some bangers out there if you know where to look so, please, allow us to help.  Thanks, as always, for tuning in.  We hope you all enjoy!

Season 2: Episode 29 (3/16/22) - Natalie From Russian River / Kids At The Brewery16 Mar 202201:30:32

Send us Fan Mail

To kick off Season 2: Episode 29 ATB welcomed one of the biggest names in craft beer, Natalie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing.  Natalie and her husband Vinny recently signed up to help the people of Ukraine by joining Pravda Brewing in the Victory Beer Series and brewing their version of Putin Huylo.  Natalie was a great guest and ATB was blessed to have her commit some time to come on the podcast.

Following Natalie's interview, Rob from Hazeboiz called in to discuss kids at the brewery.  Why would we give an entire segment to an argument as old as time in the craft beer world?  Well it just so happens that one of ATB's favorite local breweries, Twin Elephant, was recently called out by some unruly Chad on the interwebs.   Simply stated, we had to take the opportunity to defend a top notch local business and take a few cheap shots at the clown who brought this train wreck upon himself.

We hope you all enjoy this week's episode!  Thank you for tuning in!

Season 2: Episode 28 (3/9/2022) - The Loss Of A Lambic Legend / Putin Huilo09 Mar 202201:10:11

Send us Fan Mail

This past week has been a whirlwind for current events in the craft beer world.  So much in fact that ATB had to tag in a few friends to help explain.  To start Tom Peters, proprietor of Monk's Cafe in Philadelphia, and Adam Harbaugh, @lambic.info, talk about the sudden passing of Armand Debelder, owner and master blender of Drie Fonteinen.

In the second half of this episode ATB goes international with two very special guests.  First up is Ihor Chertov, head brewer at Pravda Brewing in Lviv, Ukraine.  Despite the difficult circumstances in his country listen in to find out how Ihor and Pravda have been a positive force for their community and for refugees fleeing the eastern part of Ukraine while still managing to brew beer!   Lana Svitankova, Ukraine's first ever cicerone, joins us after to bring attention to a beer campaign, Drinkers For Ukraine, to help the people of Ukraine.

On a side note, please join us in congratulating Tom Peters on the 25th Anniversary of Monk's Cafe.  For any business to survive and thrive for 25 years is a remarkable accomplishment and the fact that they were able to make it through the pandemic is a testament to the entire team and the great community that has supported and continues to support Monk's Cafe.

Congrats to 25 years and here's to 25 more Tom!

Season 2: Episode 27 (3/01/2022) - Finally...Another Homebrewer Episode!!01 Mar 202201:20:01

Send us Fan Mail

It has been a while since ATB has introduced a new home brewer to everybody so, to make up for that, we have two on this episode.  First up, Chris from Conscious Ales in San Diego, CA is crushing multiple styles from dark and heavy stouts to light and funky wild ales. You'll want to hear what this man has planned and who Conscious has been collabing with as well as how to get their highly coveted beers.  Following Conscious is a mead maker from Indiana, Jeremy, proprietor of Klausing Mead.  ATB popped a couple bottles of Jeremy's finest honey libations and, well, they were both STUPID GOOD.  Jeremy offers some tips for aspiring mead makers and, most importantly, lets our listeners know how they can score a bottle or two of his tasty concoctions.

We hope you all enjoy this episode of America The BREW-tiful!

Season 2: Episode 25 (2/15/22) - Too Hot For The Gram At Imprint15 Feb 202202:00:39

Where to even start here.  This episode has more guests than the Bible's got psalms...Dan, Scott and Rob head to Imprint for their "Too Hot For The Gram" event co-hosted with Will  (@microbrewkings) and Kris Marino (@the_bizz).   This is the most breaking news we've had in a single episode so tune in to get your one ups on the other neckbeards you call friends.

Curious about why and how Imprint's IG page got Zuck'd?  We've got you covered.  Curious about where the idea for "Too Hot For The Gram" even came from...that's in here too.  Want to hear about what Tin Barn's got up their sleeve....look no further my friends.  Big shout out to Lauren and Rich.

And after all these interviews, just when you thought you couldn't take anymore beer talk,  right when The Adjunct Professor was going to sign off for the week, we have Geriz and Joan...that's right Hoppy Floppy in the flesh!  Get your mind out of the gutter folks she was a great guest and had plenty of clothes on!

Thank you to all of our guests for making this such a great episode!

We hope you all enjoy!

Season 2: Episode 24 (2/3/22) - A Cat, A Bear And A Hazeboi All Walk Into A Bar...04 Feb 202201:37:30

Send us Fan Mail

You might be looking for a punchline here but you won't find it.  In Episode 24 ATB went to Lorenzo's to sit down with Esker Hart and Hazeboiz...in other words, Dan went to Scott's to sit down with Bobby and Rob.  Bobby was nice enough to bring his new stout, Hibernation, to share with the group and let everyone know how they can possibly score a bottle.

The third segment features Rob, Dan and Scott weighing in on Hop Culture's "new" list of "55 Beer IG Accounts to Follow".   There are some real gems in this segment...not to be missed.

Last and certainly not least, local and national releases.

A lot of fun and some hard hitting journalism in this one.  Thanks for tuning in and we hope you all enjoy!

Season 2: Episode 19 (12/22/2021) - The British Are Coming! The British Are Coming!23 Dec 202101:10:45

Send us Fan Mail

The title may be slightly misleading.  Why is that because, actually, the British were already here and Dan met up with them twice and interviewed them once at The Snake Den with our regular guest/co-host Scott "No Beer Cat, No Problem".  Do not miss this great beer couple who traveled all the way across the pond to visit the tri-state and taste a bunch of wonderful beer from some of ATB's favorite local breweries.  A few reasons to give this episode a listen:

Number 1)  How the hell did Dan meet these folks?!
Number 2)  Where should you go drink when you take a trip "across the pond"?
Number 3)  Wow Scott knows a lot about England's craft beer scene!

Those are a few reasons but there are many more and you'll only find out by tuning in.  Thank you to Johnny for letting us use the Snake Den!

We all hope that you enjoy!

Less common than pork roll but more common than The Jersey Devil are wild ale breweries or blenderies in The Garden State.   In this episode we talk with Tom, owner of Muckraker Brewery in Sussex County, NJ.  Tom is quietly churning out super clean and super delicious beers in the Northwestern most part of this state.  Not only does Tom brew the beer but he also bottles it, cans it, pours it and delivers it to 12 NJ counties.  Tom turned out to be a super interesting guest with some great stories about his brewery and his time spent at other breweries...think Pajottenland.  If you don't recognize that word listen in and learn a bit about what makes Muckraker Brewery so different and so special!

Send us Fan Mail

That's right ladies and gentleman, ATB interviewed Tom A, owner of Taphouse 15.  If you are not from Jersey or not familiar with Taphouse it is hands down the greatest beer bar in the Garden State.  If you are planning a brewery tour of the tri state this is a must add.  Not only is the beer list unparalleled but the food is a great complement...did ya see the size of that mozzarella stick?!  Besides Tom, Autodidact joined us for an update on their business and their recent collab with Twin Elephant as well as Rob and Scott...do we have to keep telling you who Rob and Scott are, yeah you get it by now.  Taphouse gets busy, even on Monday nights, so the audio was a bit rough at points towards the end.  With that exception, this was a great episode with laughs and some good info on the craft beer scene.

We hope you all enjoy!

There is a little known but highly sought after annual beer share that exists in the Garden State.  There have been reports and sightings on Instagram of a group of neck beards and a couple rouge home brewers that gather every fall to celebrate the sub culture that is craft beer.  A popular cat invited ATB to crush whales with a group of Bigfeet (more than one Bigfoot) deep in the woods of New Jersey.   A great time was had by all and ATB, along with a feline special guest, was able to squeeze in a couple interviews with Eddie (MC of Squatchfest) and Bobby (CEO of Esker Hart) before the night got way too crazy.

The guys make a trip to a local brewery in Northern NJ, Ghost Hawk Brewing.  Steve, one of founders at Ghost Hawk, sits down for the first half and Christian, beertender and whale hunter, sits down for the second half.  Ghost Hawk does a lot of styles really well due to the fact that they have one the most tenured brewers in the game who has been brewing beer for over 30 years.  They also have a great festival coming up this weekend, Sept 18th, at their Brewery in Clifton.  You do not want to miss this.  If all you want in life is a hot dog and a beer...basically a weekly itch for ATB, then you need to hit up Ghost Hawk and Rutt’s Hutt (some of the best dogs in the Garden State).

An aptly named episode, not only because Dan and Tom are good friends who enjoy beer together but also because Dan brought "You Are My Friend" brewed by The Seed and Mindful Ales.  Tom has some big personal news to break in this episode and Dan brought this beer to celebrate....what a guy!  The boys also cover this year's Goose Island BCBS variants...guess what guys it is craft beer, we know it's InBev too but just get over it.  It's good beer.  As well as a huge anniversary for an NJ Craft Beer Powerhouse!  Evil Twin gets a C&D from a soda company after getting their asses kissed by said company...what a world!  A beer run for charity starting and ending at some great craft breweries in the Garden State.  Also, a ton of releases!  All this and more on another episode of America The BREW-tiful!

Season 2: Episode 2 (8/9/2021) - Happy National Mead Day!09 Aug 202101:02:45

Ok, so technically National Mead Day was 8/7 but this show comes out on Monday so just be happy there is another excuse to celebrate drinking alcohol!  Dan and Tom have wanted to do a mead episode for quite some time and the pieces finally all came together.  When it comes to traditional mead in this country there are few people better qualified and informed than Aly Schramm, CEO of Schramm's Mead.  If you've been thinking of dipping your toe in the world of mead or maybe you are a Schramm's fanboy or fangirl, you need to give this a listen!  Aly did not disappoint and ATB was so grateful for the time we spent speaking with her.

Not unlike craft beer, the mead industry in the US also has a "new money" aspect to it and damn is it exciting!  ATB could not have a mead episode without interviewing one of the newest and highly anticipated meaderies in the country.  Charles Rapadas, proprietor of Culling, also joined us to offer his perspective on what it's been like for him brewing mead and opening up a brand new business.   Whether you are familiar with Charles or not you have probably heard of his other passion project, Three Chiefs, where some of the biggest stouts in the country have come from.  Give a listen and find out how to get on Culling's waiting list for future memberships!

You might be saying...how, what, or why right about now.   That's right, you read the title correctly, Dan and Tom had the opportunity to interview Craig Melvin of NBC.  Craig invited the fellas over for a few beers and a bunch of laughs.  Many people may not know this but Craig was a home brewer in his younger years and has a passion for the craft.  One of America's greatest journalists gave ATB an opportunity to turn the tables and, for that, we are incredibly grateful.  We know many of you may be tuning in for the first time and we hope that you enjoy.  We also talk about the latest releases and news in the craft beer world.

No Dan and Tom are not actually in Texas but they did interview Marcus Baskerville from Weathered Souls Brewery in San Antonio.  This well timed interview marks the one year anniversary of the Black Is Beautiful initiative which was started by Marcus at Weathered Souls.  The boys dig in deep with Marcus on a number of topics and ATB is very appreciative of his time.  At the end of this interview Marcus drops a BOMBSHELL upcoming collab that, as far as anyone knows, has not been announced anywhere!

***Warning*** ( Some of the audio is not up to our typical standards.  That was our fault for not preparing our guest properly...mistakes happen and we're sure you will still enjoy.)

Also Dan and Tom spend time discussing upcoming releases, expansions and re openings of some hot spots!  ATB also snuck in a brief follow up to last week's big story...we can't forget what went down a couple weeks ago.

A WARNING TO OUR LISTENERS:  Some of the content in this episode can be difficult to hear.

Some of the biggest names in craft beer have stepped down this past week amidst allegations of sexual harassment and workplace discrimination.    Unfortunately, Tired Hands was a brewery that consistently came up in these allegations and they are local to our craft beer community.  For this reason, Dan and Tom made the decision to read prepared statements from a number of former employees of Tired Hands.  We also welcome Jake, a female craft beer influencer and someone who knows way more about beer than Dan or Tom.  Jake shares her story of what life can be like as a female in the craft beer scene.   This was an extremely relatable story and the two straight white guys who host this podcast were incredibly grateful to have Jake on as a guest.  We could not thank her enough for her time.  To finish off this week's episode we have a bunch of local and national releases for you.  All this, and more, on another episode of America The BREW-tiful!
