This time, I'm going to take a leaf out of the playbook of one of my favourite podcasts. It's called "Sorry About the Murders" and it's hilarious. Every episode, the announcer gives a list of topics covered in the episode. It's pretty much always the same list of things, like drunkenness and murder. That won't work for Am I Old Yet? Season 13 kicks off with a brand new chapter in Helen's life. Is she old old? She certainly is, in her opinion. We pick up the story a couple of months after the end of Season 12. Her daughter Janey has moved with husband Jon to Edinburgh. Her next door neighbours have put their flat on the market. And Helen has discovered that she is not fully recovered from the accident, when her head came into close and sudden contact with the pavement.

Erika Sanderson returns to give voice to Helen's granddaughter Susie, while Flloyd Kennedy plays Helen, and Jennifer-next-door.

Episode 2 of Season 12 continues with the mystery of whatever happened to Helen. Her neighbour Jennifer offers to help look for her, while Helen seems to be looking for herself.

Ferdie was played by Chris Roust, Charmian by Catherine Pip, Roy Carruthers was Tom the Paramedic. Wendy Lap played Lou the Paramedic, as well as Nurse Cassy and Mrs McMillan. Christopher McDougall played Dr Harold Godley and the policeman, Frances Broudie Oldridge was Nurse Freda. Helen as a child, and as a teenager was played by Kate Hanley-Corley, Thomas was played by Piyush Agarwal, and grownup Helen and Janey were played by me, Flloyd Kennedy.

The sound design is getting more complicated by the minute, but here's what I've managed: hospital emergency department was recorded by me at the Royal Liverpool, the cafe ambience was recorded at the Sweet Pea Cafe in West Kirkby. Road traffic, ambulance and police car sirens were recorded on Smithdown Road.

I'm now half way through production of Season 12, which I hope to begin releasing to you by the end of November. In the meantime, here is a bonus for you. It's a recording of a poem I wrote a couple of years ago, inspired by a painting by my then 14 year old granddaughter, Natalie Kennedy. It was performed earlier this year at an event in Liverpool involving poets and jazz musicians improvising along with them. Episode 6 finds Helen at her favourite cafe, chatting with Ilse about playing card games on her iPad. But before we go there, I thought you might like to know why we call ourselves Thunder’s Mouth Theatre. Back in the day, I played Queen Eleanor in a production of Shakespeare’s play “The Life and Death of King John”. It was produced by John Warner’s production company in Brisbane, and performed at the then abandoned Boggo Road Jail. Our lovely mate Allana Noyes played Constance, Eleanor’s daughter-in-law, and Constance has the most wonderful line that Shakespeare ever wrote: “Oh, that my tongue were in the Thunder’s mouth / then with a passion would I shake the world!” That is how I feel about live theatre, so that is what I named my own company. And now, I use it to do a teeny tiny bit of shaking of the world, in my own small way, with the help of some very good mates. In this episode, John Warner introduces the character of William Askew, OAM.

Helen has received a note from Jennifer, her neighbour who lives in the flat across the corridor with her husband Harry, and her 103 year old grandmother Nana Madeleine. Helen and Madeleine have always enjoyed sharing their thoughts on life, death, mortality and immortality without fear or favour. And this time is no exception, although with a heightened sense of immediacy. Nana Madeleine tries to sleep, but someone needs to speak to her, and the result is - much laughter. Season 10 kicks off with lots of new beginnings. I'm so happy to be part of the Fable & Folly network, such an honour to be in the company of all the best audio fiction on the airwaves.
