E41| How can we make relationships that build life? w/ Nora Bateson27 Mar 202000:48:40
How can we make relationships that build life? This conversation is a journey toward asking that question. "The compost knows more about how to be in a world of vitalising relationships than I do. Because I have been encultured into a lot of processes that have blinded me. And that have been served by exploitation that was beyond where I could see conveniently. And so I have this idea of essentialness that is connected to brokenness." - Nora Bateson --- Connect with Nora: Learn more about Nora Bateson, the International Bateson Institute, and discover Warm Data Labs: https://batesoninstitute.org/ --- It has never been more important to be part of authentic conversations. E36| Tuning Into The Deep Drums, a dialogue with John Vervaeke15 Feb 202001:58:02
A philosophical dialogue with groundbreaking cognitive scientist John Vervaeke, exploring the art of communication, transformation, and how we might realise a more meaningful connection to ourselves, each other, and the world. Conversation waypoints: 1. The role of dialogue as a response to the meaning crisis 2. Dialogue as a meta-psychotechnology — that which enables the curation and coordination of psychotechnologies (ways that we make sense of the world and cultivate wisdom) 3. Dialectic as the machinery to enter into distributed cognition and collective intelligence 4. "Just like individual intelligence needs to be exapted up into rationality and then that exapted up into wisdom, we need to take collective intelligence and ratchet that up into collective rationality and collective wisdom. [...] That's what I think we need in order to get to the meta-psychotechnology." JV - up to roughly 17mins 5. Theory and theoria, the musicality of dialogue, and meta-reflection on present dialogue 6. Accessing underlying functionality through phenomenology. 7. The logos in dia-logos - gathering together (logos) so that things belong together 8. Vulnerability and exposure - vulnerability as allowing things to penetrate into you. 9. Encouraging each other and encaring each other. So the vulnerability stays as a sensitivity rather than a hardening of defence because we're overexposed. 10. We have to bring the depths of ontology into dia-logos. 'Your deepest patterns of intelligibility, your deepest patterns of coping and sensemaking are always bound up with your deepest patterns of caring and concern and identification. So if we want this to have existential depth then we have to touch upon the ontological depths as well.' 11. Tipping towards aporia but not to horrify. We want to commit to the not knowing so that it becomes wonder and awe. This is also part of the dia-logos. 12. On circling plus philea sophia. 32 mins 13. From theoria back into theory 36 mins 14. Relevance realisation and loving transformation 15. Love, vulnerability, interesse (interesting - to be within) 16. Sacredness and the sacred 17. Making sacred and perfection 18. Teleology 19. Value and limitations of narrative 57 mins 20. Transnarrative - buddhism taoism stocicism 21. Do we have to leave narrative behind? 22. Connection between the completion of narrative and perfection and the sacred 23. Atemporality, Plato, Bergson, Beauty 24. Whitehead, emanation and emergence 25. Dialectic as the ontological structure of reality 26. Modes of orientation 27. The urgency of our collective moment 28. Meta-stability - a state of criticality so that positive development is possible for us while also setting up a whole bunch of constraints and systems so we don't over commit. Serious play allows us to taste and touch the criticality without the danger of catastrophic error. 29. Meta-stability and serious play 30. Ritual as a place of serious play 31. The joy and trauma of masculinity and femininity 32. Yin and yang 33. Adversarial to opponent processing 34. The need for healing 35. The importance of self-correction John Vervaeke PhD is an award-winning lecturer at the University of Toronto in the departments of psychology, cognitive science and Buddhist psychology. E35| In The Bubbling Quiet, a dialogue with Nora Bateson & Tim Adalin22 Dec 201901:31:09
Turn down the volume; listen for what's listening; there you'll find your voice. In the bubbling quiet. Nora Bateson is an award-winning filmmaker, writer and educator, as well as President of the International Bateson Institute, based in Sweden. Her work asks the question, “How we can improve our perception of the complexity we live within, so we may improve our interaction with the world?” An international lecturer, researcher and writer, Nora wrote, directed and produced the award-winning documentary, An Ecology of Mind, a portrait of her father, Gregory Bateson. Her work brings the fields of biology, cognition, art, anthropology, psychology, and information technology together into a study of the patterns in ecology of living systems. E33 | A Dance Of Lila, with Samuel Austin of Live Learn Evolve07 Nov 201900:49:21
Lila is a Sanskrit word, translated as something like divine play. There's a dance like nature to the flow of meaning in the spiral of dialogue. Pairings like intellect and intuition, the analytic and the mystical, mind and body, propositional and participatory, serious play; these spark to mind when I reflect on the style of dialogue Sam and I enjoy. This one, recorded in June earlier this year. Sam is the founder of LiveLearnEvolve.com, a digital portal for wisdom, curiosity, and transformation. He's a designer, yoga teacher, psychonaut, and student of Zen, Alchemy, and Esoteric wisdom. For your evolving map of meaning, I hope you find insight here. Much love. E31| In The Wake Of Mystery, with Jordan Hall20 Sep 201901:03:41
For a growing number of futurists, culture analysts and seekers, Jordan Hall has become a key node of signal in a world of increasing noise. Co-founder of Neurohacker Collective; futurist, sorcerer / philosopher, angel investor, tech-entrepreneur: these are just some of the hats you'll find on his various bios. Hats are interesting, but they are hats. It is the manner Jordan shows up to dialogue, in combination with the relevance of his thought, that is of key interest to many. To watch this conversation go to https://voiceclub.com/in-the-wake-of-mystery-with-jordan-hall/ I hope that for many who track the ongoing development of the cluster of memes and names associated with Game B and the integrous transformation of Self and society, that this offers a unique and interesting window into some speculative metaphysics characteristic of the transformation in which we participate. No answers here, certainly not from me. Hopefully some relevant questions in transformation though. For those unfamiliar with Jordan Hall and his thinking I recommend listening to his appearance on the Jim Rutt show in particular, and also the trialogue on Rebel Wisdom where he's joined by Daniel Schmachtenberger and Jamie Wheal. Conversation points: - Why do this? - Meaningful thinking - The gravity of the change upon us - Teleology - Coherence, continuity, wholeness - "Love is that which enables choice" - Forrest Landry - On power and love - The sacredness of choice - Meta-psychotechnology - Towards new stories - Esoteric metaphysics of relationship and change To support this project to produce more conversations like this, and to build a sensemaking community in Melbourne and share the development thereof with the online world, you can go to https://www.patreon.com/voiceclub

That's just how it is. I feel the intention he has to impact people and the world for the better. And I see a fragment (but a real fragment), of that intention actualise into bonafide artefacts you can interact with right now. E22| Psychedelics And The Future, With Melissa Warner28 Feb 201901:43:07
The psychedelic renaissance is well and truly underway throughout much of the world. It’s headlined by no small number of careful and well-meaning scientists from some of the world's most reputable institutions. But psychedelic use itself, of course, interwoven throughout the development of human culture for thousands of years, never really went away. It simply went underground, out of majority consciousness. As awareness of the unique properties of psychedelic compounds and the experiences they are famed for continues to grow, it is important that mature discussion take place regarding their nature, utility, and relevance for modern humanity. Such a discussion is one for the world to continue to grapple with over many years. Generally speaking, things left in the shadow too long tend to get restless. This podcast was recorded at an event titled Psychedelics & The Future.  I was joined by Executive Officer of Mind Medicine Australia, Melissa Warner. Mind Medicine Australia acts as the central node for the promotion of regulatory approved and research backed psychedelic medicines to assist with the treatment of mental health. Much of this conversation turned on the science of psychedelic medicines, their effect on the brain, and guidelines for therapeutic use. E11| The Psychedelic Philosopher, with Peter Sjöstedt-H, pt III31 Mar 201800:15:48
Can mental causation influence evolution? “If you’re an evolutionist, you should believe in mental causation,” Peter tells us. But why? This is the third and final part to our mini-series with the psychedelic philosopher of mind Peter Sjöstedt-H. The central theme of this episode centres on the relationship between mental causation and evolution. Peter begins by telling us that the philosopher Alfred North Whitehead had a far greater influence on science than people realise, having much to say on what is now the modern enquiry into epigenetics. We also touch on Carl Jung, the relationship between intellect and intuition, and the danger of confusing the atomised and fixed for what is most real. Much of what we mention here is greatly expanded in the two preceding parts. I thoroughly recommend you check them out. E10| The Psychedelic Philosopher, with Peter Sjöstedt-H, pt II16 Mar 201800:52:50
Get well in to a conversation about psychedelics, the Will, meaning, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Bergson, Jung, Peterson, and more. This is the second and largest part of our mini-series with the psychedelic philosopher, Peter Sjöstedt-H. This episode stands alone quite well; bear with it at the beginning, it certainly jumps straight in. Do check out our previous episode if you'd like to get more familiar. Here's a brief intro. In the first part we covered some core aspects of Peter’s approach to philosophy, and discussed how psychedelic experience might be brought to bear on such an approach. We also discussed Bergson’s notion of duration, one of those less common concepts which I think is centrally important to grapple with. We now pick up the conversation at the close of a discussion about the relationship between psychedelic experience and death. Loosely, the idea was something like that psychedelics, perhaps, offer an insight into what it is to experience a state in which your ordinary sense of self is at least significantly diminished, where such a state might speculatively be considered analogous to a metaphorical, and perhaps other than just metaphorical, sense of death. Now, this conversation begins with my transitioning to the link between this psychedelic state and the mystical, or religious experience, but moreover to the process which seems to characterise the journey to and from such a domain. The idea I lay out in this opening is largely central to what follows. We touch on Nietzsche, Bergson, Jung, Schopenhauer, Whitehead, Jordan Peterson, myth, telos, the relation between left and right, and Peter’s own meta-ethical view named Neo-Nihilism, a position which denies the existence of objective values while preserving the notion of subjective values. To this I try to promote to Peter a view grounded on an affirmation of life, construed as a transformative, adaptive, harmonising process. With influence from philosophy and psychonautic experience, this dialogue explores the forking path of humanity’s relation with technology. One way proposes hyperhumanism, which seeks to enhance humanity through the mindful use of technology. The other, transhumanism, promises 'transcendence' as an escape from the lack in humanity.

Featuring Carl Hayden Smith, founder of the Museum of Consciousness, hyperhuman theorist and extended state DMT pioneer, in a Voicecraft dialogue with philosopher and consciousness theorist Cameron Duffy.

He has a Ph.D. in philosophy (ontology, philosophy of mind) and another Ph.D. in computer engineering (reconfigurable computing, artificial intelligence). As a scientist, Bernardo has worked for the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and the Philips Research Laboratories (where the 'Casimir Effect' of Quantum Field Theory was discovered). He has also been creatively active in the high-tech industry for almost 30 years now, having co-founded parallel processor company Silicon Hive (acquired by Intel in 2011) and worked as a technology strategist for the geopolitically significant company ASML. Bernardo has most recently started AI hardware company Syncthetics B.V., currently in stealth mode. About the speakers:

--- Adriana is a cultural architect, philosopher, and writer dedicated to bringing the cyclical nature of women’s minds into collective awareness. Through dialogue, writing, workshops, retreats, online group work, and one-on-one mentoring, she aims to create spaces for provocative thinking, reflection and transformation. Above all, she’s a mother to two amazing girls, a partner to an awesome guy, and an apprentice gardener living off-grid in a community in Australia.

--- Aspasia Karageorge is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Australia, a qualitative researcher, and a writer of some kind. She grew up in small town New Zealand wedged between a mountain and a volcanic black-sand coast. She is curious about practice-based wisdom, the creative process, languages of the unconscious, and some intersection of wonder/beauty/mystery/connection. Her therapy approach is greatly informed by Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). As a research consultant, she is broadly focused on clinical complexity, innovation, and workforce development. Longstanding literary loves include Camus, Kazantzakis, Seferis, Anaïs Nin, Plato, Borges, Kafka, Balzac, Jung, Paz, Sartre, Nietzche, Gertrude Stein, Hemingway… a ridiculous list of names.

In her downtime, you’ll currently find her in the water, writing something that won’t make sense until later, daydreaming with campari, and/or dancing to some wild Greek 70s pop records with her kids. She is also a core contributor at Voicecraft.

You can connect with Aspasia @ aspasiapsychology.com

She also shares conversations on her YouTube channel here: @aspasiapsychology

Joining Adriana are Voicecraft members Tom Lyons (Ecofo) and Tim Adalin of the Voicecraft Network.
