8: How Yoga Helped When My Home Birth Turned into an Unplanned (and Positive) Hospital Birth Experience29 Jul 202400:28:25

Today's episode is a little bit different. Over the years I have found it inspirational listening to other people's positive birth experiences and I found that these trickled back into my consciousness when I was pregnant. So I've decided to share mine too. It didn't go to plan, but ultimately the main goal of having us both out the other side healthily was achieved.

My yoga practice played an integral part in making this into a positive birth story. I discuss how learning and embodying the eight limbs of yoga and the koshas helped me transform what could have been a somewhat traumatic experience, into an affirmative one.

In this episode, Amanda Paz shares how AI has revolutionized her business operations and creativity. We discuss the importance of AI tools in managing the administrative and creative aspects of a yoga business, such as content creation, marketing, and class planning. We also delve into practical ways AI can be harnessed to improve efficiency and provide inspiration, allowing yoga teachers to focus more on personal connections and in-person teachings.

Amanda offers insights into how she uses AI to enhance her mentoring of other yoga teachers and her own online programs. We also explore the ongoing need for human touch in yoga and wellness, despite technological advancements.

27: Marketing For Yoga Teachers That Doesn't Make You Cringe22 Apr 202500:28:50

Yes, you can show up online without becoming a yoga influencer or selling your soul.

Let's be real—most of the marketing advice out there wasn't made for yoga teachers.

It was made by business bros who've never whimpered through a toe squat in Vajrasana.

If you've ever opened Instagram to "do your marketing" and suddenly found yourself deep-cleaning your bathroom instead… this episode is for you.

In this solo episode, I'm sharing:

  • Three 'aha' moments I've had from watching the 2025 All Mats Taken Yoga Business Summit presentations

  • How to use marketing as an invitation, not a persuasion tactic

  • Why your voice is your brand (and perfection is not the goal)

  • How to create sustainable visibility without dancing on Reels

24: Yoga Cueing for Simplicity, Accessibility and Deep Internalized Connection with Lena Kalchenko11 Mar 202500:30:36

Cueing is a hot topic at the moment, but today's guest, Lena Kalchenko, has been talking about this for a long time now. She focused on simplicity and connection in cueing over precise alignment, and she has good reason for doing so. At the core of Lena's philosophy is an internalized experience and self-discovery

We cover:

  • Why removing complexity from cueing enhances accessibility
  • Do you need to make every class as accessible as you can?
  • Why students and teachers benefit from simple cues rather than focused alignment.
  • AND MORE!

I love Lena's matter-of-fact, perspective way of discussing cueing and how ultimately it's all about the expression of movement, connection and play rather than an overly serious aligned, "perfect" practice.

Whether you're teaching at seven studios and barely making ends meet, or you're just starting out and don't know where to focus, this conversation is packed with practical, no-fluff advice.

What We Cover:

  • How Andy built DoYou Yoga to 1.2 million members starting with zero yoga knowledge
  • Why personal brands are outperforming faceless platforms and what that means for you
  • The real reason "niche down" advice feels overwhelming (and how to actually do it)
  • How to overcome imposter syndrome and stop comparing yourself to 10/10 gurus
  • His 'trifecta' marketing system and hy DMs are one of the most powerful (and underused) tools for yoga teachers right now
  • The 5 phases of building a yoga business and how to know which one you're in

And so much more!

If you're a yoga teacher, breathwork coach, Pilates instructor, or wellness professional who knows you have something valuable to offer but you're struggling to turn that passion into a consistent, sustainable income this episode is for you.

Meet Andy Zoltan:

Andy helps yoga teachers build profitable online brands. A former Accenture consultant and founder of DoYou.com, one of the world's largest yoga platforms, Andy has helped hundreds of teachers grow from part-time instructors into thriving business owners.

He's known for pioneering the Hybrid Coaching model — a new approach that lets teachers combine personal connection with scalable systems, so they can create real income and real impact at the same time

53: Yoga Nidra Is Not What You Think | Indu Arora on the Ancient State of Conscious Sleep02 May 202600:51:18

Most people know Yoga Nidra as a relaxation tool that helps you fall asleep. But according to renowned yoga therapist and author Indu Arora, we've been missing the most important word in the practice... yoga. In this deeply illuminating conversation, Indu unpacks the true philosophy of Yoga Nidra, tracing it from ancient Vedic and Tantric texts all the way to the modern technique we practice today and we discuss why the difference matters more than you think.

In this episode you'll learn:

  • Why Yoga Nidra is a state of consciousness, not just a relaxation technique. And what the ancient texts actually say about it
  • The real reason we fall asleep during Yoga Nidra (and what to do about it)
  • How to prepare your body and nervous system before practice to stay present and aware
  • Why reading a script is not the same as true transmission and how your personal practice changes everything
  • The many pathways to Yoga Nidra beyond the Pancha Koshas, including through the three bodies, the five pranas, and more
  • What "frequency following response" means and why the state you are in shapes the experience of every student in the room
  • Why Indu believes we are "settling for fractions" of what Yoga Nidra can truly offer

Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or a yoga teacher looking to deepen your transmission, this episode will completely shift the way you approach Yoga Nidra.

About Indu Arora:

Indu Arora is a Yoga and Ayurveda teacher, mentor, and author, based out of the USA. She considers herself a student for a lifetime. Indu has been sharing about Yoga philosophy, Yoga Therapy, and Ayurveda for the last two decades. Her unique gift is making Yoga and Ayurveda a practice, which is equally useful for a beginner as for a sincere seeker who has made Yoga a lifelong journey. She is inspired by and taught under Kriya Yoga, Himalayan Yoga, Kashmir Shiavism, and Sivananda Yoga lineages. She has studied in a traditional Guru-shishya parampara setting.

Her teaching style is rooted in empowering and inspiring students to awaken the inner Guru. Her core philosophy is 'Yoga is a Work-in and not a Work-out'.

She is the author of Mudra: The Sacred Secret (2015), Yoga: Ancient Heritage, Tomorrow's Vision (2005, 2019), and SOMA: 100 Heritage Recipes for Self-Care (e-book, 2020; updated hard copy, 2022).

Referenced Paper:

*Ok so a few corrections from the episode. The paper I was referencing was the Framingham Heart Study by Christakis & Fowler. It ran from 1983 to 2003 and followed 4739 individuals. They found that happiness clusters in networks and that the association between one person's happiness and others' happiness reaches up to three degrees of separation (friends, friends-of-friends, and friends-of-friends-of-friends). They also report concrete effect sizes (e.g., a nearby friend becoming happy increased a person's probability of being happy by ~25%), and that the effect decays with distance and time. 39: Have We Forgotten the True History of the Chakras? The Hidden Origins of Modern Yoga Philosophy08 Oct 202501:12:37

Most of us learned that the chakras are an ancient yogic system, but what if that story isn't quite true?

In this episode, I take you down the rabbit hole that completely changed how I understand chakras. What started as simple class planning for my yin yoga series turned into a deep dive into the forgotten history of the modern Western chakra system.

We'll trace their journey from early Tantric philosophy to Theosophy, Carl Jung, and the New Age movement. You'll learn how a mix of Western psychology, color theory, and mysticism transformed a centuries-old meditation map into today's popular seven-chakra rainbow model.

Together, we'll explore:

  • Why the modern chakra system isn't as ancient as it seems
  • How Western thinkers and energy-healing culture shaped its evolution
  • What Sanskrit scholars reveal about the original Tantric practices
  • How source amnesia changed modern yoga—and what we can do to reconnect

This episode is perfect for yoga teachers, philosophy students, really anyone who's ever felt like the chakra system didn't quite add up. Get ready because this conversation will change how you see yoga history forever.

In this episode with Rachel Scott, we discuss how to share the wisdom passed down through generations, weave philosophy into your classes, what to do if your lineage feels tainted by scandals or cultish behaviour when you know the deeper teachings are healing and how to recognize cult-like behaviour if you're ever faced with it.

52: The Yoga Teacher's Guide to Podcast Guesting with Sam Brake Guia15 Apr 202601:05:29

If you're a yoga teacher looking to grow your business without spending hours on social media, podcast guesting might be the marketing strategy you've been missing. In this episode, Sam Brake Guia, co-founder of Pod Written and host of Mics to Millions podcast, shares exactly how yoga teachers can leverage podcast guesting to build authority, attract clients and grow their audience. Sam has spent over four years booking yoga teachers on podcasts and he's bringing all of that expertise to this conversation.

In this episode you'll learn:

  • Why podcasting is one of the most intimate and high-converting marketing channels for yoga teachers
  • How to identify the right podcasts to pitch (and why getting this wrong wastes your time)
  • What makes a compelling pitch and the quality vs. quantity mistake most people make
  • How to deliver a great guest interview that builds trust without being overly promotional
  • What to do after the episode goes live to maximise every appearance
  • How long it realistically takes to see results from a podcast guesting strategy
  • Why you don't need your own podcast to make this work for your business

If you're a yoga teacher or studio owner looking to grow your business with the power of podcast guesting this episode will give you a clear and actionable roadmap to start using this strategy in your yoga business marketing plan.

**References to last year in the episode refer to 2025 as this was recorded in 2025. I over-batched interview recording, which I discuss in the episode 😅. At the time of publishing the show is 23 months old, not 14 as mentioned here.**

Meet Sam Brake Guia from Podwritten:

Sam Brake Guia is the Co-founder of PodWritten, a full-service agency he runs with his wife, specializing in helping health, fitness, and wellness businesses grow through strategic podcast guesting. Additionally, he hosts Mics to Millions, a podcast where he shares interviews with top-tier hosts, expert insights, and solo episodes aimed at helping health, fitness, and wellness podcast hosts scale and grow their shows.

34: Indian Mythology For Yoga Teachers with Dr. Raj Balkaran27 Jul 202500:46:07

Ever wonder why yoga poses have names like Hanumanasana or Garudasana, and what they actually mean? In this episode with guest Dr. Raj Balkaran we'll find out how asanas were named and how stories, from ancient mythology to cultural narratives, literally shape our consciousness, behaviors, and entire civilization. Plus discover how being aware of this can transform both your yoga teaching and your life.

As yoga teachers, we're familiar with the idea that our stories determine our actions and a large part of our practice is to quiet the mind so that we can get in touch with our true self or Ātman. But get ready to break this into a new level because today Dr. Raj Balkaran, Sanskrit scholar and spiritual teacher, is going deeper into how the mythology and stories that make up the fabric of our society influence us on deep personal, generational, and societal layers. These narratives, inherited from our cultural and civilizational backgrounds, unconsciously inform everything from our personal decisions to our scientific theories to how we treat the planet.

Dr. Raj explains how Western culture is unconsciously shaped by Genesis narratives of linear time and human dominion over nature, while Eastern traditions offer cyclical worldviews of endless creation and dissolution. Even our modern cosmology, for example, the Big Bang theory may be unconsciously influenced by these inherited "beginning, middle, end" story structures.

We'll also discuss how yoga teacher trainings often focus heavily on biomechanics and physical alignment, which makes sense for an industry often centered on fitness and physical relief. But by bringing the mythology into class, you can potentially help your students recognize patterns that no longer serve them, giving them the power to rewrite them.

By the end of this episode, you'll have a completely new understanding of how ancient stories influence modern life and practical tools to help your students rewrite limiting narratives through yoga.

In this episode, we explore:

  • How inherited cultural stories unconsciously shape our worldview and behaviors
  • Why Western linear thinking differs so dramatically from Eastern cyclical cosmology
  • The profound difference between being a character in someone else's story vs. authoring your own
  • How to recognize the subconscious narratives keeping you stuck in unwanted patterns
  • Why yoga poses are named after mythological figures and what that means for consciousness
  • Practical ways to incorporate meaningful storytelling into your yoga classes
  • The concept of dharma as a guide for conscious living
  • How detachment allows us to act from soul-level rather than ego-level caring

Meet Dr. Raj Balkaran

Dr. Raj is a scholar of Sanskrit literature, spiritual teacher, seasoned speaker, online educator and podcaster. He runs The Indian Wisdom School which provides students with the opportunity not only to learn about Indian Wisdom Traditions, but to learn from them. It integrates scholarship, storytelling, and profound spiritual teachings from ancient India to facilitate embodied online learning. Steering clear of over-intellectualization, reduction, delusion or dogma, the School leverages wisdom teachings from the mythological, philosophical, and spiritual traditions of ancient India to support meaningful living for modern student-seekers.

33: 7 Ways To Identify AI Writing in 202518 Jul 202500:31:17

Have you been reading content online lately and thought, "Is this AI-generated?" or have you been editing AI content and wondered if you've infused enough of yourself into it to make it you? Today, I'm going to turn you into a human AI-detector.

By the end of this episode, you're going to be able to sniff out unedited AI content from a mile away and impress your friends at a dinner party by knowing the definition of fancy AI terms like perplexity and burstiness.

Now, this isn't a let's bash AI content and never use it in your business episode. We want to learn the red flags so we can discern what content we consume AND we know how to avoid letting them seep through into our own copy when we use AI, so we're making sure that during the editing process, we are sufficiently adding our authentic humanness back in.

Based on these seven AI indicators, I've also created a prompt you can download to add to your workflows to help your first AI draft avoid some of these classic pitfalls and produce higher-quality first drafts the first time so you don't have to re-work the entire thing manually to make it sound less like a robot.

32: Creating Multiple Revenue Streams as a Yoga Teacher With MaKenzie Fly30 Jun 202500:46:52

In this episode with MaKenzie Fly host of the Master Your Yoga Teaching Podcast we talk about how she created the layers of her multi-passionate business that includes in-person classes, online memberships, retreats, mentoring, and more. She shares her journey creating a multi-revenue stream yoga business, from messiness to refinement. We explore the importance of focusing on high-return endeavors and the key to marketing yoga classes that often gets overlooked.

We also touch on how yoga philosophy aligns with monetizing the practice and offer advice for new yoga teachers on investing in business training vs further yoga teacher training. This conversation is for anyone wanting to expand their revenue streams beyond teaching in-person classes.

Meet MaKenzie:

MaKenzie Fly is a Las Vegas showgirl turned podcast host, international retreat leader, and yoga teacher mentor . Yoga found her when she was only 15 years old and helped her overcome overwhelming anxiety and crippling panic attacks due to a very painful and public scandal that nearly tore her family apart. She often says yoga ruined her life, and then saved her life. MaKenzie loves teaching yoga, but she really loves teaching other people how to teach yoga and has been for the last twelve years. She's currently fascinated with figuring out what it means to flourish as a yogipreneur and interested in helping other like-minded yoga teachers expand their offers outside the studio. She's a sagittarius straight shooter, prefers coffee over tea, cats over dogs, and baths over showers. Her greatest wealth is the relationship she has with her husband of seven years, and her luckiest blessing is her baby boy, Finnian, who was born recently 11/11/2023. Praise God!

31: Don't Overthink It - a Permission Slip to Create10 Jun 202500:39:49

Perfectionism holding you back from creating? In this solo episode, I tackle a common trap that holds so many yoga teachers (including myself) stuck—waiting until everything is "perfect" before putting themselves out there.

I'll discuss how:

  • Embracing your "sucky" phase as a teacher and business owner is one of your greatest assets. I got out of my own way to get out of your way and start becoming a creator.

If you're a new yoga teacher, returning after a break, or battling impostor syndrome, this episode is for you. This is your permission to start before you're ready. Whether you're hesitating to create content, teach your first workshop, or teach a new style, this episode will help you reframe your learning curve as a valuable part of your journey.

In this solo episode, I'm asking you to take a step back and really reflect on what you want your yoga or wellness business to look like—beyond the polished promises of social media. We'll explore how your energy, lifestyle, skills, and goals all shape what a sustainable business actually means for you right now. Whether you're dreaming of retreats, dabbling in tech, or simply trying to grow something meaningful on your own terms, I hope this episode helps you find more clarity and confidence in your direction.

In this episode, I discuss

  • Redefining success to match your values

  • The difference between scaling up and keeping it aligned with your lifestyle

50: 5 Yoga Business & Marketing Lessons from One Year of Teaching Yin Yoga20 Mar 202600:47:27

I've hit 50 episodes of this podcast around the same time I've reached the one-year milestone of teaching and building an in-person yin yoga class post maternity leave from scratch. So to celebrate I'm sharing my honest take on 5 lessons I've learned from the highs and lows in the yoga business and marketing realm this past year. I've also conjured up some deals for you. See below 👇

I'll be sharing:

  • Why consistency beats hustle — and why the pressure to grow fast can actually slow everything down. If you've ever felt like you need your class to work right now, this one's for you.
  • Which marketing strategies actually filled seats — Facebook groups, Google My Business, event sites, Instagram. I break down what worked, what didn't and why the answer probably makes more sense than you'd expect once you think about where your students actually spend their time.
  • How to honestly audit your own marketing — because there's a big difference between "nothing's working" and "I've been holding back somewhere and I know it."
  • The website trap — as a website designer, this was a genuinely hard lesson to sit with. A simpler setup that works beats a beautiful one that costs more than your class earns.

If you're a yoga teacher building your own in-person (or online) class, especially if you're doing it independently (not under a studio), this episode this is for you!
