| 908. Karla Bruning, New York City Marathon Finish Line Announcer | 01 oct. 2026 | 01:19:08 | |
"I don't want to just read names and countries the whole time. That gets boring. I like to talk to runners, too. 'If this is your first New York City Marathon, throw your hands in the air!' And then half the hands go up, and you're like, 'Oh my gosh, this is so amazing!' I don't know why after all this time I'm still surprised they're listening to me!" Even if you don't know her name or her face, you probably know her voice. Karla Bruning is one of the longtime announcers and emcees for the New York Road Runners, and has been hyping up runners at the New York City Marathon since 2010, when she not only ran the race for the first time, but also sang the National Anthem at the start! In this conversation, Karla talks about how she has become one of the voices of the TCS New York City Marathon, and what the road to life on the mic has looked like. In addition to being a marathoner, a triathlete, a mom, a wife, a journalist, and a race announcer and event emcee, Karla and her husband also own Dovetail and Co., a hotel group with seven properties in locations including Bermuda, Waikiki, the Catskills, and Newport, RI. Life is good for Karla, who is booked, booking, and busy! FOLLOW KARLA @runkarlarun SPONSOR:

"I think one of my biggest problems is I finish every race and think, 'I think I can go faster!'" If you follow the sport, you probably recognize Alana Levy. The New York City-based runner and member of Brooklyn Track Club is seemingly everywhere these days. From local staple races like the New York Mini 10K and the Fifth Avenue Mile (where Alana just won the open division in a personal best 4:38) to major marathons, like the 2025 Chicago Marathon where Alana earned her Olympic Trials Qualifier, running 2:36:53, to this year's Boston Marathon, where she improved her personal best by more than two minutes, racing in the pro field and finishing in 2:34:50. She's logging 100-mile weeks, winning races, and qualifying for the Olympic Trials Marathon — while working full-time as the director of product management at Pearl Health. In this conversation, Alana talks about her relationship with running and how it has evolved over the years, and about what it's like being a part of the ever-evolving New York City running community. | 905. Arielle Chernin, Brookline Food Pantry Operations Manager & 3:02 Marathoner | 22 sept. 2026 | 01:09:32
"It's running friendship in true form. We would not otherwise be friends. We're different ages, our kids are different ages, we live completely different lifestyles. She's as organized and type A as it gets, and I could not be further from that. And it works. Running brings people together, and it's so special to have that connection. We make fun of how different we are in the rest of our lives, but in running, we jive." On the day we recorded this episode, Arielle Chernin dropped her three daughters off at school. She has three girls ages five and under, with three different drop-off and pick-up locations. Then, she completed her 20-mile training run for the upcoming Chicago Marathon before putting in a day's work at the Brookline Food Pantry, where she is the organization's operations manager. The Newton, MA-based 3:02 marathoner is booked and busy, but she's having so much fun along the way. In this conversation, Arielle talks about finding her mom strength, and how that's changed her life on the run and beyond. She talks about running a personal best (3:02) at the Boston Marathon earlier this year, when she was six months postpartum, and about the big goals she's ready to share for next month's 26.2 in Chicago. Plus, all about her career path, her wild first birth story ("baby born on bathroom floor!"), and how she approaches training and racing. SPONSOR:

"But I'm really grateful. I had so much time to make mistakes, look stupid, look cringe, not know what I'm doing — so that when the opportunity arose, I was ready to go. I knew who I was, and I was ready to hit it." Cody Rigsby is undoubtedly one of the most popular — and most loved — fitness instructors on the planet. With a big personality, endless sass, and pop-heavy playlists, it's not surprising that Cody's Peloton classes are taken by millions. (From Pink to Prime Ministers, you're likely to see some buzzy names on the leaderboard during any given Cody class.) Since rising to superstardom, Cody has published a book, competed on Dancing With the Stars (he and pro partner Cheryl Burke finished third in 2021), and become a celebrity in his own right. In this conversation, Cody talks about his love/hate relationship with running, about his perspective on relationships in 2026, and about how he got the job at Peloton. SPONSOR:

| 902. Tara Rincón, News 12 Long Island Senior Content Producer | 27 août 2026 | 01:19:37 | |
"It's such a rewarding job because you're working on things that affect your actual community. Some of the big stories are down the road from my house." When Tara Rincón was in college, she needed an internship to graduate. She was a communications major, so she decided to apply for an internship at her local news station, News 12 Long Island. Now, more than two decades later, Tara is still very happily at News 12, where she is a senior content producer. In this conversation, Tara — one of my best buds from Quinnipiac University, and a fellow journalism major / Spanish minor — talks about what her job entails, about what has kept her at News 12 for her entire adult life thus far, and about what a day in the life looks life. Tara wakes up every day at 1 AM, is at the station by 2 AM, and works until 11 AM. Then, she heads home, gets a run in, and is ready to transition to mom mode by the time her 6- and 9-year-old kids get home from school. SPONSOR:

| 901. No Stupid Questions: The TMI Episode, with Ashley Desanno | 20 août 2026 | 01:05:34 | |
"Don't let bodily things make you not show up." Welcome to the fourth episode in a new series on the Ali on the Run Show called "No Stupid Questions." This is where experts come in to answer everything you've always wanted to ask about running. Eric Jenkins and Aisha Praught Leer kicked off the series answering questions about professional running (and so much more); Jinger Gottschall, New Balance Director of Sports Research, answered questions about shoes and sports bras; and professional runner and coach Kim Conley offered loads of advice about how to be a better, stronger, faster, happier runner. Today, we're talking TMI, with the always honest, always unfiltered Ashley Desanno, content creator and cofounder of the Creepy Book Club. Ashley is a mom to two teenage boys. She lives in Oregon, and she's been running for more than two decades. In this episode, we're here to assure you that with runners, there's no such thing as too much information. But if you have questions about bathroom emergencies on the run, chafing, underwear, and more — and we know you do — this episode aims to talk about it. SPONSOR: New Balance. | 900. My 2026 SeaWheeze Recap | 18 août 2026 | 01:27:33
"The days leading up to this race were rough, and the days after have been bright and full of sunshine." For the first time since 2019, lululemon's SeaWheeze half marathon and festival were so back! I had the honor and privilege of hosting a live show during the PreWheeze pre-race festivities with lululemon pro runner Phily Bowden, and was one of the start and finish line emcees on race day alongside Peloton instructor Cody Rigsby. | 898. Kara Goucher's 2026 City Tri Half Marathon Recap | 06 août 2026 | 01:34:29
"That's part of the loss. It isn't how it was. But that doesn't mean it's not worth doing." This past weekend, Kara Goucher ran her first half marathon in seven years, and her first since being diagnosed with runner's dystonia in 2022. The former pro, author of The Longest Race, cohost of Nobody Asked Us with Des & Kara, broadcaster, analyst, wife, and mom has had a long road to getting back on the run. From being told she'd never run again to breaking the tape at the City Tri Half Marathon alongside longtime friend Carrie Birth-Davis ("CB"), this is Kara's poignant race recap. She shares what it took to get to the start line, how she handled herself when things got tough with five miles to go (and really tough with three to go), and why this race was about so much more than 13.1 miles. | 895. Molly Seidel's 2026 Western States Recap (With Special Guest Molly Reidy) | 16 juil. 2026 | 01:41:07
"Being able to go into a race where you are a rookie, it opened me up to take chances I wouldn't necessarily take. In the marathon, I felt like I got so scared of failing that I was really hesitant to make any moves, try anything big, or go for it. It was like a protective thing. 'I just want to play it safe so I can race as well as possible but not risk anything.' I think with this one, I went into this with nothing to lose. I'm gonna go out and try to race as well as I can and race hard and I know I'll probably make mistakes, but so what?" Earlier this year, Molly Seidel — the Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist in the marathon — went all-in on ultra running, earning a Golden Ticket to the prestigious 2026 Western States Endurance Run 100-miler. In this episode, Molly recaps her 100-mile debut, reflecting on the highs, lows, river crossings, and more. She finished the race in 24 hours, 29 minutes, and 27 seconds. She was the 28th woman to cross the line, and came in 141st out of 323 finishers. And we're joined by a special guest: Molly's girlfriend, Molly Reidy! SPONSORS:

| 894. Alyssa McElheny, Hyrox World Champion & OTQ Marathoner | 09 juil. 2026 | 01:23:30 | |
"A lot of these things that seem like world-enders at the time can lead to bigger, better, happier things." Alyssa McElheny had a dream: to qualify for the Olympic Trials Marathon. When the qualifying standard dropped from 2:45 to 2:37, she thought it would never happen. But after a quick cry, she decided not to give up on the dream. In November 2025 — after multiple failed attempts — Alyssa got her OTQ, running 2:34:28 at the Indy Monumental Marathon. Two weeks later, she made her Hyrox debut. She thought she would simply dip her toes into the now-trending "hybrid fitness" competition world. But a dip of the toe led to so much more. Last month — just seven months after her first mixed doubles event — Alyssa became the 2026 Hyrox Elite 15 World Champion. In this conversation, she talks about how she very quickly became the best in the Hyrox world. "If the winner thinks that everyone's important, then goddamnit I must be right." Rachel Entrekin arrived at the start line of the Cocodona 250 ultramarathon in May having already won the women's race twice. But as Rachel says, "You don't start and finish Cocodona as the same person." And this year, Rachel finished the race as a history-maker and record breaker. The women's defending champion became the first woman to win Cocodona outright. She finished the 253.3-mile race from Phoenix to Flagstaff — through the desert and the mountains, climbing more than 39,000 feet along the way — in 56 hours 9 minutes and 48 seconds. She finished seven hours faster than she did last year. She beat the entire men's elite field, and beat the existing course record by more than two hours. In this conversation, Rachel breaks down everything from her approach to training ("vibes-based") and her goals for Cocodona 2026 to her mid-race encounter with a very special woman and what the finish line was really like. "When she said those words to me on that run, I was like, 'It's the same thing, Laura. You're gonna do the same thing that you've done. You were OK after every decision, after every scary thing you did in your career. It opened up new doors, it opened up new opportunities, I met new people. Some of those people who changed my life completely and it impacted me in ways I would never have imagined. But none of that would have happened if I didn't have the courage to trust myself to make the scary decisions and not stay in something that was no longer working because it was safe.' I just needed someone to remind me of that." Last year, Laura Thweatt chose to retire from professional running. Now, she's the Assistant Road Team Coach for On Athletics Club in Boulder, CO, and she's thriving. But the road to post-pro fulfillment wasn't easy. In this conversation, Laura talks about that heavy retirement decision, and shares the advice she got from fellow retired pro Jenny Simpson that made the decision a little easier. She talks about how she approached the next chapter in her life, about learning the art of the corporate interview, and about the emotional side of life after going pro. "We put ourselves on the line to help other people accomplish their dreams, and that was pretty freaking awesome." It's another Throwback Thursday, and this time we're going back to December 2019 for one of my all-time favorite episodes. At the 2019 California International Marathon (CIM), 72 women ran faster than 2 hours 45 minutes, officially qualifying to run the 2020 Olympic Trials in the marathon. Leading several dozen of those women were Menso de Jong, Chris Stehula, and Ken Rakestraw — the official sub-2:45 pace group leaders. None of them had ever run a 2:45 marathon before. This is their story. (This is such a lovely, wholesome conversation with three men who took their roles at CIM that year incredibly seriously, and who had the utmost respect for the women in the field chasing their biggest goals. The women who ran with Menso, Chris, and Ken spoke so highly of them after the race, and I was delighted to get to interview all three of them together.) SPONSORS:

| 884. A May Message from Ali | 07 mai 2026 | 00:43:49 | |
"Life has not been easy. Life, for the better part of the past few years, has been very hard and messy and stressful and exhausting. And I will give myself the tiniest bit of credit for surviving it. And for finding a way to be happy." The month of May brings up all kinds of stuff for me. A birthday, Mother's Day, all of the school and extracurricular activities for Annie — and the anniversaries. In May 2023, my life was upended when I was diagnosed with stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma: breast cancer. Exactly two years later, I was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer that had spread to my bones. So yeah, May hits highs, lows, and grey spaces. Fortunately, there's nothing tragic to report in this episode! No status update, no big diagnosis reveal. Just some musings on my April vacation week with Annie, my Ali on the RunWAY debut, and how I'm feeling heading into 41. | 883. Cousin Jackie's 2026 Boston Marathon Recap | 05 mai 2026 | 01:37:09
"It was really hard for me to distinguish who was a friend and who was actually going to win the Boston Marathon, and I just hugged them all the exact same." She's back — and this time, she's a Boston Marathoner! Cousin Jackie — my cousin and bestie, Jacqueline Adair, ran this year's Boston Marathon, and not only did she run a personal best in Boston, she also raised more than $20,000 for cancer research as part of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team. In this episode, recorded the morning after the marathon, Jackie talks about her training, her fundraising, and why running this race was important to her. She talks about our weekend together in Boston, about what it was like out on the course, and about everyone she hugged along the way. Plus, some big life updates: Jackie, who currently lives in D.C. and works for the federal government, is moving to London with her family this summer! (Sad for me! Exciting for them!) "It felt so good to be reminded of all the reasons I love to do this." There's nowhere I'd rather be on the third Monday in April than at the Boston Marathon finish line! This year, I was honored to be asked back to perform a variety of roles in Boston. I hosted a panel at the Expo along with two live shows. I was one of the race announcers at the finish line on Marathon Monday, and I was the finish line reporter for the world feed broadcast. It was a big, busy, fun, rewarding weekend that included quality time with my favorite people, a million finish line hugs, a quick meet-and-greet with a former President, a few too many late nights, and so much more. Best Boston ever? Best Boston ever. (Please know that I am genuinely horrified by how long this solo recap ended up being! Someone take the microphone away from me!) SPONSOR:

"I'm so proud of all of us. I'm so proud of anyone who decides to even run a mile." Of the 30,000 runners who completed this year's Boston Marathon, only one is a former resident of the White House. Chelsea Clinton — a mom of three, podcast host, activist, author, avid runner, and former First Daughter — is now and forever a Boston Marathoner. In this episode (her second appearance on the Ali on the Run Show!), recorded just 48 hours after the race, she talks about running Boston with her best friend, Jen, and about what it took to run a personal best time of 3:40:52. "Go out there and send it within reason." Every year, I host a panel at the Boston Marathon Expo featuring some of the top American women in the professional field. This year, that meant getting to chat with Puma and Minnesota Distance Elite's Annie Frisbie and Brooks athlete Amanda Vestri on the Friday before the 2026 Boston Marathon. Annie went on to lead much of the race, ultimately finishing eighth overall and as the second American woman in 2:22:00 (and 81-second personal best). Amanda, in only her second marathon, finished 15th overall and as the eighth American woman in 2:24:49 — a 51-second improvement from her marathon debut in New York City this fall. | 877. My Boston Marathon Pep Talk | 16 avr. 2026 | 00:34:25
"I went back to Boston, and I found myself again. I found the Ali I knew was in there. The Ali who lives and breathes running. The Ali who had felt so isolated for so long, but who craves community and connection, and knows exactly where to find it." We're just days away from the 130th Boston Marathon! Last year, I was honored to be asked to be the keynote speaker at the Boston Athletic Association's annual partner summit at the Museum of Science. I used the opportunity to share my Boston Marathon story. My story, as someone who grew up 80 minutes north of Boston, who knew nothing about the Boston Marathon, and who, even as an adult working in the running industry, felt like there wasn't a place for me in Boston. This is the story about how I found — or made — my place, and about how profoundly it has changed my life. This is my love letter to Boston, to the race, to belonging, and to the running community. "Doubt and belief can coexist. In the book, you see a ton of my doubts and struggles with confidence. But then there's also this untouchable belief that's always there, too. So it's almost like, which voice are you going to listen to?" It's a big week for professional runner Sara Hall! She turns 43 tomorrow, and then heads east to race the Boston Marathon on Monday. And while most marathoners are recovering on Tuesday, Sara, in true Sara form, will be doing the opposite: It's book launch day! Sara's debut memoir, For the Love of the Grind, comes out April 21, and in this conversation, Sara talks about why the time was right to write a book. "All I can do is move forward knowing that one day I'll have that moment." Jess McClain just might be the most-loved professional marathoner in the country. The Phoenix, AZ-based Brooks athlete made national headlines last month when she was leading the U.S. Half Marathon National Championships in Atlanta and was led off course by an official vehicle in the final mile of the race. That day, Jess lost out on a national title, a spot on Team USA, and a good amount of prize money. (Listen to Emma Grace Hurley's recap of the day here.) She handled the aftermath with grace, compassion, and optimism. In this conversation, Jess talks about the race, and about the moment she realized she'd been led off course and was no longer in the lead. She also talks about the just-announced resolution (she has a spot on Team USA, and will be competing at World Championships in Copenhagen later this year) and how she feels about it. Jess, who is coached by David Roche, talks about how she's feeling heading back to the Boston Marathon, where she ran a personal best (2:22:43) last year and was the top American woman in the race. | 868. Emma Grace Hurley's 2026 USATF Half Marathon Championships Recap | 05 mars 2026 | 01:15:19
"It's been a really, really tough couple days. I've never been such a combination of stressed and sad." At Sunday's USA Track and Field Half Marathon Championships in Atlanta, the top three women — Jess McClain, Emma Grace Hurley, and Ednah Kurgat — were led off course in the final mile of the race. The three were on track to take the podium, and to earn spots to represent the United States on a World Championship team. All signs were pointing to Jess, Emma Grace, and Ednah becoming Team USA ahead of the 2026 World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen this September. National titles, prize money, sponsor bonuses, and, of course, the glory of breaking the tape and earning that moment were all on the line. Much has been said about the race, the misdirection, and the immediate aftermath. Molly Born ultimately broke the tape, as Jess, Emma Grace, and Ednah clawed their way back into the mix. But what happens now? The one unanimous takeaway from that day in Atlanta is that no one feels good about how the day played out. Today, Emma Grace Hurley comes to us from her much-deserved post-race vacation in the Cayman Islands to offer her unique perspective on all of this. Emma Grace spent the early years of her running career as a member of Atlanta Track Club Elite. She has served on committees for USA Track and Field, and currently lives in Indianapolis, where she is coached by former Atlanta Track Club Elite coach Andrew Begley. Emma Grace has a deeper understanding than most about how these various organizations work, about what goes into pulling off a road race of this scale and, of course, about what it's like being an athlete with so much at stake. (Listen to that episode here.) Now, the middle-distance runner is wrapping up her time at Stanford — and she's gone pro! The two-time NCAA 800m champion opted to forgo her remaining NCAA eligibility in favor of signing a professional contract with New Balance, and she just made her pro racing debut with a stellar indoor season. In this conversation, Roisin talks about racing at New Balance Indoor Grand Prix (she ran and won the 800m), at Boston University (she ran 1:57.97, becoming the first American woman to break 1:58 indoors, and breaking the American record in the event), and at the Millrose Games (she won the 600m).
