A growing interest arose among Black women in moving to countries where healthcare is more affordable, peace of mind is more accessible and the “American Dream” is more attainable. ExodUS Summit hosts virtual and live events and workshops that show Black women ways to plan their ExodUS, all while fostering community. The ExodUS Summit community is now 18,000+ Black women strong. Our signature event is the annual virtual summit, where Black women speakers teach ExodUS Summit attendees specific strategies to make their own sabbatical or move-abroad plans. Roshida Dowe was a burned-out lawyer for high-pressure tech companies who retired at age 39. She’s now in love with her expat life in Mexico City, her favorite city in the world. Stephanie Perry quit her job as a hospital pharmacy technician to travel the world for one year, and she never turned back. She’s been a house-sitting nomad since 2015. I am unlearning scarcity mindsets as a Black women and adopting a more abundant mindset. Jealousy and envy among Black women is destroying us. Where does it come from? We can all eat. We can all thrive and do well, especially if we come together as a community. We like to talk about crabs in a barrel, but who is creating the barrel? We end up victim blaming the victim in these scenarios, when they were not the ones at fault. Their only crime was expecting the world to not be a hard and cruel place.
