Leave Your Light On: Navigating the Lighthouse of Life After Loss w/Shelley Buck & Kathy Curtis20 Nov 202001:05:36
Aging GreatFULLy brings listeners a heartwarming show on an important topic for everyone, especially those who have endured loss of any kind. Join us for “Leave Your Light On: Navigating the Lighthouse of Life After Loss,” as we welcome special guests Shelley Buck, Kathy Curtis and honor the illuminating life of Ryder Buck in this transformative hour that will endear all. This year in particular, has been one where we as a world have endured losses of all kinds and in this episode, our guests share firsthand how to come back out of the dark tunnels of despair from the most devasting losses one can imagine.
We also talk about the mysterious emotion grief— and how it can cripple us, empower us, and at times, be a major motivator in what changes us. Kathy and Shelley talk about using the light from our passed loved ones to shape that recovery and how to use it as a tool to live with more energy and purpose.
We bring this show to our global family of listeners as we enter the holidays knowing it is a time of challenge for many, as we are certain the lessons of parenting and tribulations, combined with the power of Ryder’s larger-than-life spirit will hold promise and bring profound messages to others for living in the light and ultimately being the lighthouse keeper once again for others. And we will celebrate light, love and learn how to find our way back living after experiencing loss as we explore in depth the book, Leave Your Light On: The Musical Mantra Left Behind by an Illuminating Spirit, by Shelley Buck & Ryder Buck with Kathy Curtis.
Our guest, Shelley Buck moved to California after college to follow her dream of working for Disney. It was there she met and fell in love with her husband, Chris, who worked in Animation. After they married and had their first child, Ryder, she stayed home to be a full-time mom to him and the two brothers who followed. Shelley is a storyteller and artist which she expresses through her original jewelry at www.Shelrae.com.
Shelley shares her journey of having a child diagnosed with cancer, what it was like to experience that and then to suffer the most unimaginable loss. But her story is one that brings a lifeline to others and some essential messages for those who have ever been in the darkness. And that is, how exploring the light that our loved ones leave behind can be the bridge between that light and our own healing.
Ryder Buck lived a short but charmed life west coast, where he fell in and out of love, and formed an indie band, Ryder Buck & the Breakers, that made waves all across the LA area. After a 9-month battle with cancer, Ryder emerged disease-free and fearlessly followed his dreams of changing people’s lives through his music. When tragedy met him on a dark highway, the light he had so fiercely protected throughout his life became limitless. His words and songs continue to carry that light forward. Ryder received the Flame of Hope Award (posthumously) from a local cancer facility where he and his band played for cancer survivors. Ryder’s dad, Chris Buck, is the producer of the film, Frozen and Frozen 2. Ryder became the inspiration for a new character in Frozen 2 and for one of the films songs. You can learn more about Ryder Buck’s infinite legacy and music by visiting www.RyderBuckMusic.com.
Kathy Curtis moved into Shelley’s neighborhood when they were both 12 years old and an instant, lifelong friendship took root. She has worked as a healing artist and writer since 1991. Her programs support the transformation of grief, illness, and emotional barriers through creative expression. She is the author of Invisible Ink, a memoir about her own journey through grief. The unique writing process that brought her so much healing has since become a successful program, online and at various venues in the Midwest. Kathy’s intimate connection to the Buck family, combined with her writing and healing background, made her the perfect person to partner with Shelley on the creation of this book. PERFECT: A Path to Love, Forgiveness and Transformation with Judi Miller13 Nov 202000:53:48
In this episode of Aging GreatFULLy we embark on a path alongside our guest, author Judi Miller, and her not-so-ordinary journey of generational and individual healing. For those who have been curious about near-death experiences, past lives, and who have always felt different for reasons you have never understood, this is a must-listen show.
Judi Miller was a highly success CPA and corporate finance executive, who unknown to her co-workers, lived with a frightening secret. Throughout her life, Judi always felt different. But she also lived in terror of the night and the possibility of sexual assault continually plagued her, yet she never understood why. Happily married with children, her fears made life a modern-day nightmare, but the mystery as to why haunted her as she knew of nothing in her own personal background that would warrant this constant state of fear she continually faced.
Finally, she set out on a quest to unravel the mystery that had such a hold over her life and this ultimately led to an amazing and unexpected life changing journey she never saw coming. Her growth was no longer aimed at making herself better; instead, she began to focus on finding her intrinsic wholeness. This shift brought her numerous lessons around the nature of the creator, forgiveness, and the trajectory each soul follows throughout the course of many lives.
Tune in to this power-hour of enlightYOUment as we understand why she came to write the book, Perfect: A Path to Love, Forgiveness and Transformation, and how her transformational journey brought the right people together in the right order, to heal wrongs committed decades ago; before her birth and which left shadows on her soul.
In the end, it becomes evident we all have the capacity to open our hearts to connect with our true selves and allow the love that heals and direct us towards the light and path we are meant to take to awaken, prosper and serve. We discover ultimately that faith is paramount in our journey of life as we aspire towards living with more passion, fulfillment, clarity, joy and seeing life in all of its splendidly imperfect perfection.

Hope, Empowerment & Maintaining Health While Growing Older with Dr. Joe06 Nov 202000:58:30
There are certain diseases commonly referred to as “age-related diseases” but that doesn’t necessarily mean just because you’re growing older, they’re predestined for you. In this episode of Aging GreatFULLy, we welcome Dr. Joe Nieusma, Founder and CEO of Superior Toxicology, for an important conversation about the top ten diseases commonly affecting older adults, the typical prescriptions prescribed, as well as some alternative remedies and natural approaches to help circumvent the affects or even avoid the risks altogether. Dr. Joe encourages us to adopt healthy lifestyle approaches early and reminds us that the little things we do can make a big difference in our health.
One thing is certain, we learn that it’s never too late to begin positive and healthy habits in the right direction. And the more we know, the better decisions we can make regarding our own health and wellness. We don’t have a crystal ball to forecast the future. But we can certainly implement a positive mindset, good habits, well care, and make strides each day to position our mind, body and spirit to be in the healthiest state possible! It’s an important conversation and in the end, we realize the more we know about these things, the more we can do to circumvent many of them.
This is an empowering hour, encouraging listeners to take charge of their health, one step at a time, one day at a time. Dr. Joe also has a program called H.O.P.E., (Health Optimization Prescription Evaluation) where he works with clients to assess their prescriptions to ensure they should be on what they are on, that there are no overlaps, interactions, and that they really need what they are taking. To learn more or to sign up for his H.O.P.E. program, visit him at www.superiortoxicology.com.

In her book, co-authored with BJ Kittredge, they share inspiring true stories of seniors working with vigor and purpose. Our Wisdom Years: Growing Older with Joy, Fulfillment, Resilience & No Regrets16 Oct 202001:01:19
We’re all growing older, so why not be experts at this thing we’re so fortunate to be able to do! But society more often urges us to fight aging rather than embrace it. We are discouraged from slowing down, implored to keep our wrinkles at bay, and pressured to be “productive” in our retirement.
But as today’s special guest, psychologist Dr. Charles Garfield, asserts in his new book, Our Wisdom Years: Growing Older with Joy, Fulfillment, Resilience and No Regrets, the later years are not defined by success and self-mastery like they are for young adults. Rather, those entering their sixties find that, instead of anxiously asking, “Do I have what it takes to complete?” they find themselves wondering, “Do I have what it takes to lead a fulfilling life.”
As founder of the Shanti Project, an internationally honored volunteer organization dedicated to the care of the dying, Dr. Garfield is very well acquainted with this shift from “success thinking” to “legacy thinking”. In later years, the drive to keep accomplishing is usually less pressing than the desire to nurture loving relationships and to contribute to something that will live on. Dr. Garfield reminds us that we ourselves can be the difference between zero and one, reminding us each of the important role we can each play in the lives of others.
To address this shift in values, Dr. Garfield offers an invaluable roadmap to help those entering later years assess what they truly value, discover latent interests and passions that have been abandoned for more practical pursuits, and invest in the relationships they value most. Drawing on his own experience with aging, along with the accounts of several others, that he has counseled through the years, Dr. Garfield shares a new perspective to later life, and along with it, new visions and discoveries. From asking listeners to embrace a period of radical self-discovery, to discovering and defining their own joy, to forgiving those who have wronged them, including self-forgiveness, and so much more, this is a must-listen power-hour of enlightYOUment that listeners will find thought-provoking and continue to ponder well after the hour has ended.
Dr. Charles Garfield has innumerable honors, accolades and distinguished accomplishments including earning a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. He writes for and serves on the editorial board of Greater Good, a national e-magazine from the University of California, Berkeley’s Center for Science and the Greater Good. To connect with him or buy his book, Our Wisdom Years, visit www.CharlesGarfield.com or to learn more about his Shanti Project, visit www.Shanti.org.

My Last Eight Thousand Days with Lee Gutkind09 Oct 202000:57:32
We have no way of knowing how many days of grand living we’ll be gifted. We’ve certainly become inured to the reality that life discloses our experiences moment by moment in real-time and it is up to us to determine how we choose to finesse all the “whatisness” life brings our way.
In this authentically captivating episode of Aging GreatFULLy, we welcome the founding editor of Creative Nonfiction magazine, and architect of the genre, Lee Gutkind, author and editor of more than thirty books. He’s appeared on many national radio and television shows, including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Good Morning America, and National Public Radio’s All Things Considered. Even before Lee Gutkind was spotlighted in Vanity Fair Magazine in 1997 as “the Godfather behind creative nonfiction” he was its most active advocate and practitioner. In 1991, he founded Creative Nonfiction, the first and the largest literary journal to publish narrative/creative nonfiction exclusively. All the while, Gutkind continued to practice what he preached, immersing himself in diverse worlds for months and years and producing dramatic and intimate creative nonfiction books about subjects as rich and varied as the motorcycle subculture, child and adolescent mental illness, baseball umpires, veterinary medicine and organ transplantation.
However, his latest writing endeavor wasn’t looking outward into the lives of others, but instead inward, towards his very own. Undertaking perhaps his most difficult and challenging work to date, Gutkind took to the task of writing his own memoir, My Last Eight Thousand Days: An American Male in His Seventies. In his revealing, candid and vivid portrait of aging, Gutkind examines aging like we’ve never seen before. And while the words on the pages are his experiences, thoughts and stories, having read them, I feel they may relate in some way to to every listener, as Gutkind has managed to unearth the truth on aging like only he can.
A must-listen, wisdom-infused episode that is full of fun, because isn’t that what life is about? But we also shift our attention to some topics that are important and serious that need our attention too. And Gutkind shares candidly the challenges he faced in growing older, including making connections, making meaning of it all, and what he did to find his way to the many better todays and wonderful tomorrows to come. This is definitely a power-hour of enlightYOUment that delivers on so many levels you won’t want to miss!
Gutkind’s memoir is a fantastic read for everyone that I highly recommend—to get your copy of My Last Eight Thousand Days: An American Male in His Seventies, or to learn more about or connect with Lee Gutkind visit www.LeeGutkind.com.

Join the power-hour of enlightYOUment this week as we welcome Dr. John Gray, author of the most well-known and trust relationship book of all time, Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus. USA Today listed his book as one of the top 10 most influential books of the last quarter century and it was the #1 best-selling book of the 1990’s. Dr. Gray’s books are translated into approximately 45 languages in more than 100 countries, and they continue to be best-sellers.
In this Aging GreatFULLy episode, we get answers to the questions you have from beginning to end! Dr. Gray shares what women WANT most and what men VALUE most (no, it’s not what you think). We also gain more insight into the sacred nature of a man's cave! And how sometimes with ladies, less can be more!
This powerful hour explores relationship nuances and how they can evolve as we grow older, including the role male and female hormones play into this dynamic. The Art of Assisting Aging Parents with Teresa Moerer18 Sep 202000:58:51
We love our parents! But do you ever worry about yours as they grow older? Or even your own future aging circumstances? Providing support to a loved one can seem overwhelming and you’re not alone if you find yourself in this role currently.
According to Pew Research’s 2015 data, there are 40.4 million unpaid caregivers of adults ages 65 and older in the United States. Of that group, nine-in-ten are providing care for an aging relative, and a plurality is caring for a parent, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
What if there was an ebb and flow to caregiving and time spent supporting and nurturing loved ones was redirected to its fullest potential while still allowing time for ourselves? What if caring for aging parents was an art?
In this episode of Aging GreatFULLy we welcome author and physical therapist, Teresa Moerer, who faced similar challenges when caring for her parents and patients. She also knows the joys of success as she assists people to achieve their optimal potential. In fact, she a created a unique four-step method, Experi-Age, and wrote a book, Aging Parents: Discover the Journey to Honor Your Parents, Create Treasured Memories, And Live Life to The Fullest. Teresa highlights what she calls an Art of Assisting Aging Parents. Teresa gently guides readers (and patients) through how to turn daily activities and healthy living strategies into meaningful and affective experiences.
Her Four-Step Method teaches people how to help you or your parents increase motor and thinking skills, instill healthy habits to promote wellness, make smooth transitions and set quality goals, reach their highest state of health and well-being. Through Teresa’s course, BOSS Caregiver Blueprint, she teaches people how to have a vibrant life while also assisting aging parents.
We all aspire to live and age well through well-celebrated and successful life experiences. In this episode we uncover so much about that plays into the premise improving our lives, such as how even those rare relationship encounters matter, why our brain likes surprises, aging in place, the importance of a life vision, why you need to hone your strengths, being an active listener, and even the art of living itself and so much more!
A must listen power-hour of enlightYOUment for anyone that has parents or is one… because if you’re aging – this show is for you. We packed a lot into this hour, and listeners will enjoy every minute of it!

Rising Courageously From Darkness to Dreams with Rebecca Bea Thompson!04 Sep 202000:53:54
In this episode of Aging GreatFULLy we embark on a real-life journey where dreams that once felt forever on hold were surprisingly discovered taking the path less traveled. Guest Rebecca Bea Thompson, experienced speaker, writer, consultant, facilitator and coach shares her chronicle of personal courage and spiritual expansion that defies conventional wisdom.
Frustrated by her (now ex-) husband’s increasing alcoholism, Rebecca embarked on a healing journey which led her to explore a variety of spiritual practices. Following years of spousal devotion and co-dependency, she eventually learned how to love herself, and found freedom from a situation in which she thought she was stuck. From engineer skeptic, she made a fascinating right turn, and discovered a new lens on life. Along the way, she became a Reiki master, certified Crystal Therapist and Shamanic coach, and incorporates these areas of expertise into her consulting and coaching practice. But it’s her talks with the moon that will intrigue many.
In her new book, Rebecca Rising: How I found courage and self-love through friendship, coaching and conversations with the moon, this memoir chronicles her healing journey. Additionally, Rebecca shares the life planning process created over a twenty-year period with her best friend, Darlene Ryan. Committed to the friendship and the richness it held for each, they made a pact to always connect on Sundays at 8:30. As a result, they eventually created a book together, Sunday at 8:30: Two Decades of Life Planning, which includes worksheets prompting others to create their own life plan.
In her candidly authentic reveal, Rebecca reminds that hope can be hiding in some unsuspecting and surprising places, and that with an open mind, we can achieve clarity beyond our wildest imaginings. A must-listen power-hour of enlightYOUment for anyone and everyone who has ever felt stuck in a situation they didn’t know a way out of, for those seeking strength towards life changes, and for those curious about alternative approaches towards spiritual expansion. Unbounded: Journey To Your Within with Aaron McCormick31 Jul 202000:59:59
"Unbounded: Journey to Your Within!"
This week's Aging GreatFULLy with special guest, author, speaker Aaron McCormick!
Tune in to his inspiring and true story of how even when all the odds are stacked against you, your inner spirit has the ability to prevail, ushering you to unparalleled success so you can then light the path for others to do the same!
By all rights, Aaron McCormick should have been a casualty of his upbringing, "destined," as he says, "to be crippled by almost every externally imposed and there for, self-imposed limitation you could imagine."
Raised on the south side of Chicago, in poverty by a single mother with no education, deserted by a father who was likely an undiagnosed bi-polar schizophrenic, and tightly controlled by an extreme fundamentalist religion that allowed no personal freedom whatsoever, including getting a college education or playing sports, Aaron ultimately defied those expectations of failure.
In fact, he succeeded spectacularly. With no college education, beginning is his early twenties, he became a hugely successful corporate enterprise software salesman, making millions of dollars for his employers and himself, climbing from company to company until he was honored with the prestigious “Best of IBM” award bestowed on only 1% of the company’s 400,000 employees. Along the way, he also earned an MBA, without an undergraduate degree!
His journey is one of incredible epiphany and one that took incredible courage to stand up to and escape the fundamentalist religious cult in which he was raised, ultimately resulting in the loss of all familiar -- his friends and family.
But what he realized to be most fulfilling was the reverence for the power of personal introspection and the universal wisdom right before us all. Aaron decided it was time to step out and share it with those seeking more fulfillment and success in career, love and relationships and personal power. His book, Unbounded: Journey To Your Within is an incredible story and his words will capture readers attention from the very beginning as he shares his unfiltered story that ultimately shows sometimes we just have to take the long way home, a winding road be it as it may—back to our authentic ourselves.
For more information or to connect with Aaron, visit him at www.aaronmccormic.com
Don’t miss this power-hour of enlightYOUment, full of momentum, inspiration and proof, that we all have the ability to change our circumstances and rise, unbounded, journeying to your within!
If you enjoy this episode or the many others, we invite you to share it and / or leave a show review! Thank you for being part of our cherished and amazing Aging GreatFULLy global family of listeners!

As Founder of the Chi Center, Master Mingtong Gu is the man who brought a profound 5,000 year old form of Chinese healing to the West in the form of Wisdom Healing Qigong, and is bringing it forward as a vital practice in the time of COVID-19.

As a child growing up in China during the Cultural Revolution, Master Mingtong endured hunger, poverty, and a long separation from his birth family. Despite these incredible hardships, he became the first from his village to attend college, earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics followed by two master’s degrees, including an MFA from Ohio State University. As a graduate student in art, Master Mingtong discovered the treasures of his own culture through the spiritual iconography of Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism, while practicing yoga, Tantric Buddhism, and qigong.

In 1997, Master Mingtong returned to China for Qigong training under Grandmaster Dr. Pang Ming, a Qigong grandmaster trained in Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, and the founder of the world’s largest Qigong hospital. During his training, Master Mingtong observed thousands of cases of chronic and “incurable” diseases being healed at this “medicine-less” Qigong hospital, which treated 200,000+ patients with more than 185 different illnesses, with a 95% effective improvement rate.

Could that medicine-less Qigong facility be duplicated in the West? Sold on its benefits, Master Mingtong dedicates his life to advancing the practice and a place to teach it in the United States. Hence, The Chi Center just outside of Santa Fe NM was founded to bring Wisdom Healing Qigong to thousands of people in the United States, China, and Europe through his retreats, workshops, books, and online and educational programs. To learn more about the work of Master Mingtong Gu, visit him at www.ChiCenter.com.

But today, he offers listeners a free gift as he joins the Aging GreatFULLy show to share how Wisdom Healing Qigong can help you resist the COVID-19 virus and other illnesses and ailments as well as decrease your stress, feel more connected in a time of isolation, and even heal faster if you’ve been stricken by viruses, health conditions and even feeling anxious and overwhelmed or even seek improved wellness and peace of the mind, body and spirit.

Reignite, Redesign and Reestablish Thriving Relationships08 May 202000:58:51
Relationships are the fabric of our lives! And recently many of them have either become stronger or strained, depending of the unique circumstances. With self-isolation and working-from-home underway, all around the world, millions of relationships are currently being done differently and couples are having to adjust to a new way of being together – or not being together.
Brendon Watt is a speaker, life mentor, and the co-author of Relationship: Are You Sure You Want One? and co-founder of the Relationship Done Different workshop series.
He understands that the constraints of home isolation will prove to be too much for many couples. “A lot of people will be thinking, ‘You know, I can live with this person for four hours a day but put them in a house with me for 24 hours a day, and I can’t stand it,’” he explains. “The current situation is highlighting just how vital it is to actively create your relationship, rather than just maintain it,” he adds.
Brendon is well-regarded for his honest, pragmatic (and sometimes irreverent) approach to love, sex and relationships. He is available to provide a wide range of relationship tips and advice, specifically designed to help the millions of couples currently dealing with intimacy overload.
“The relationships that are most likely to fail right now are those where the parties are waiting for the relationship to go back to normal. The relationships that are going to succeed are those where the parties are saying, ‘Okay, there is no yesterday anymore. How do we create the future together? What do we want the future of our relationship to look like? What choices do we need to make today, to create that future together,’” Brendon advises.
A must-listen power-hour of enlightenment for everyone, especially during this unprecedented time

GAIN Keys to Nonjudgement with Greg Hammer, MD03 Feb 202300:59:46
In this Aging GreatFULLy power-hour, we welcome Stanford School of Medicine professor, physician, best-selling author, mindfulness expert, and innovator of the GAIN method, Greg Hammer, MD. Join us as Dr. Hammer shares wisdom to GAIN Keys to Nonjudgment and discover the life-enhancing rewards that begin to arise in your life.

Most of us admirably strive to be “nonjudgmental” towards others. Coming from a place of nonjudgment allows us to see the best in others without letting our own biases get in the way. However, in order to become less judgmental, we need to change how we think about ourselves and the world around us.

Dr. Hammer illustrates how we often make quick judgments every day about everything we see and put these things into categories, such as healthy/ unhealthy, affordable/ expensive, and good/ bad. And how much more often do we make judgments about ourselves?

Discover the many benefits of nonjudgement, tips for implementing it into your life and learn how mindfulness, or living in the present moment, gives us the space to practice nonjudgment. First, we acknowledge how often we judge and that it is not necessary to judge. Then we can practice living in the present and accepting the world, ourselves, and others as they are. It's an enlightening hour from beginning to end as we learn about the benefits of nonjudgement, the problems that arise from judgement and realize how simple tactics of mindfulness can lead the way to a healthier and happier life.

Greg Hammer, MD is a Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, pediatric intensive care physician, pediatric anesthesiologist, mindfulness expert, and the author of GAIN without Pain: The Happiness Handbook for Health Care Professionals. A member of the Stanford WellMD initiative, Dr. Hammer is currently the Chair of the Physician Wellness Task Force for the California Society of Anesthesiologists. He has been a visiting professor and lecturer on wellness at institutions worldwide and teaches GAIN to medical students, residents, and fellows at Stanford.
