Drawing from the New Testament, IFCA Executive Director Richard Bargas explores the lives and example of married couple Aquila and Priscilla as a template for how a husband and wife can serve the Lord together in their local church and community. You don’t need to be a pastor, and you don’t even need to be in ministry to serve God right where you are. This short study will encourage your soul as you hear how any married couple can serve God together, wherever they may be.

Guiding Our Adult Children Through Difficult Times - Dr. Richard Bargas07 Oct 202401:05:27

Send us a text

There are a lot of questions when it comes to our adult children and our responsibility toward them. Are we responsible for them at all once they are out of our home? Is the “age of accountability” a biblical idea? How should we handle their rebellion? What about if we find out that they are deep in sin, or worse, claim they have deconstructed? How can we help them in times of need and hurt? Richard Bargas walks through these questions and seeks wisdom from the Bible to help Christian parents of adult children know what our responsibility is to the wayward and hurting.

Five Reasons Why Dispensational Premillennialism Needs to Be Taught in Your Church- Dr. Richard Bargas20 May 202400:57:35

Send us a text

We are living during a time when the evangelical Christian church, in general, has downplayed theology so much that we are not seeing many churches denigrate anything outside of the basic gospel message. It has become fashionable in some circles to shorten church doctrinal statements to the point that they are only a few short sentences. Dispensational Premillennialism is one of those areas where more and more Christians are unwilling to see as important or relegate these matters to mere opinions that don’t matter. In this episode of Advancing the Cause, Richard Bargas shares five reasons why dispensational premillennialism is important to profess, protect, and promote in the church.

The Problem of Evil- Dr. Geoff Kirkland19 Feb 202400:42:28

Send us a text

The problem of evil has been a point that atheists and agnostics have used as an argument against the existence of God for centuries. All of these and more are addressed in this episode when Richard Bargas and Dr. Geoff Kirkland go to the Word of God for answers to these important questions.

The Infant Baptism Debate - Dr. Peter Goeman22 Jan 202400:49:56

Send us a text

Description:

Richard Bargas talks with Dr. Peter Goeman about the arguments against the reformed doctrine of infant baptism. In looking at it theologically, biblically, and exegetically, Dr. Goeman demonstrates that the biblical record connects faith and baptism, while it does not support the theological Covenant of Grace. These two arguments strike critical blows by showing that the Bible does not support these main tenets of Covenant Theology. So, where did this doctrine come from? Listen in and find out more!

Peter Goeman serves as associate professor of Old Testament and biblical languages at Shepherds Theological Seminary in Cary, NC. He is the author of The Baptism Debate: Understanding and Evaluating Reformed Infant Baptism. More resources can be found at his website: The Bible Sojourner.

Street Preaching and the Power of the Cross - Pastor Geoff Kirkland04 Sep 202300:43:34

Send us a text

We’ve all seen the guy with the megaphone standing on the corner yelling at cars, or the guy carrying the sign that reads “Turn or Burn!” When statistics show that most Christians fail to share their faith on a regular basis, we need to ask some serious questions, such as “What is faithful gospel witnessing?”, “Is open-air preaching a legitimate form of evangelism?”, “Are gospel tracts effective?”, and “Does believing in God’s sovereignty and election lead Christians to neglect evangelizing the lost?”

Richard Bargas and Pastor Geoff Kirkland tackle these issues and more as they discuss Street Preaching, evangelism, and the power of the gospel message.

Media for the Masses - Edwin Tevez07 Aug 202300:49:46

Send us a text

What is the right (and biblical) way to view the usage of technological advances for the Church and the spreading of the gospel? Some churches have a philosophy that anything goes because the ends justify the means, therefore strobe lights and smoke machines are acceptable, while others retain the methods of the early church like flannelgraphs and overhead projectors 😁.

How can we think biblically and find help that won't require large amounts of cash? Edwin Tevez, Assistant Pastor of Youth and Media at Southern View Chapel helps us think through the issues and provides helpful insights for those needing a helping hand.

Help Finding the Right Pastor - Paul Deal19 Jun 202300:53:47

Send us a text

Open pastoral positions are at an all-time high right now, and there are many factors that seem to be a part of the reason why so many pulpits need to be filled:

Decline in seminary enrollment:
North America’s 280 Christian seminaries enrolled 78,000 students for fall 2022, about 600 fewer than last year. Declines were among evangelical (-3.2%) and mainline Protestant (-5.9%) schools.

Aging Pastors:
According to Lifeway Research, the average pastor today is 57, compared to 50 in 2000.

Burned Out Pastors:
Even the Wall Street Journal has taken notice of how what some have called, “The Great Resignation” many pastors are reporting that during Covid, they realized they were burned out and have stepped away from the ministry altogether., “The labor shortage within the clergy, which parallels shortages in other industries, is reshaping worship in some parts of the country as more congregations search for ways to operate without a pastor,” (reported Feb 2022).

Executive Director Richard Bargas speaks with Pastor Paul Deal about how IFCA can assist pastoral search committees and pastors looking for help in finding a new ministry. With over 70 years of experience, Richard and Paul talk about some of the most common questions that are asked by those engaged in a search:

  • How can a church better prepare for its pastor’s retirement? When should they begin thinking about this?
  • Does an outgoing pastor need to leave the church or can he stay in the church?
  • What makes a church toxic and what are some signs of “pastor-killing churches?”
  • What can a church do if its pastor needs to retire, but he doesn’t see it?
  • What are some helpful resources that a pastor, church, or search committee can use to help them in their search?

Refusing to Let “Biblicism" Become a Bad Word- Dr. Richard Bargas05 Aug 202400:47:27

Send us a text

Being a biblicist used to mean that you took the Bible seriously, and held it in highest honor. Even with this simple definition, there are several scholars today that attach a negative connotation to biblicism. IFCA Executive Director Richard Bargas takes a critical look at Drs. Craig Carter and Matthew Barrett’s views on biblicism as well as their promotion of the “Great Tradition,” which states that simple exegesis is insufficient to understand the Bible, but instead a proper interpretation requires the use of metaphysics, philosophy, and even allegorical interpretation.

Send us a text

Richard Bargas discusses with Pastor Gary Gilley of Southern View Chapel the idea that as Christians, we shouldn't have to choose between humility and speaking the truth. Instead, we should always speak the truth with love, patience, and humility. Listen in as we explore the relationship between humility and truth-telling from a biblical perspective, emphasizing the importance of humility in how we speak the truth, especially for church leaders.

Dr. Gary Gilley has been the pastor of Southern View Chapel in Springfield, Illinois, since 1975. He has authored eight books: “This Little Church Went to Market”, “This Little Church Stayed Home”, “I Just Wanted More Land” – Jabez, “Is That You Lord?”, “This Little Church Had None,” “Out of Formation,” “Growing in Christ,” and “Social Justice, a Primer” (e-book). Additionally, he has contributed to five other books: “Reforming or Conforming,” “Biblical Sufficiency Applied,” “Practical Aspects of Pastoral Theology,” “Dispensationalism Tomorrow & Beyond,” “An Introduction to the New Covenant” and “Fight the Good Fight.”

Send us a text

Richard Bargas and Dr. William Varner delve into the significance of the Apostolic Fathers, exploring their historical context, doctrinal contributions, and relevance for contemporary Christianity. As a biblical conservative, dispensationalist, and a scholar—not to mention a member of IFCA International, Dr. Varner encourages Christians to read the Apostolic Fathers for themselves, a subject that many men from our tradition of Bible Churches would be distrusting and unfamiliar with. Dr. Varner introduces the Apostolic Fathers and shares why they are valuable for the church to study today.

Dr. William Varner teaches Bible exposition courses and Greek Exegesis at The Master’s University. He also served as the Director of IBEX, the university’s overseas campus in Israel, for over twenty years and has led over 50 study trips to Israel. Additionally, he was the pastor of the Sojourners fellowship at Grace Community Church for twenty-three years. Currently, he teaches the Bereans Class at Grace Baptist Church, Santa Clarita, CA. Dr. Varner is the author of around twenty books, catering to both laymen and scholars. His most notable scholarly works include a new translation and introduction to the Apostolic Fathers, published by T&T Clark.
