What Really Happens When Your Product Goes Viral01 Sep 202600:52:41

What happens when explosive success turns your ADHD business strategy upside down? Dani Donovan returns to reveal the hidden reality of scaling a tool for neurodivergent communities and keeping up with sudden demand.

For every ADHD entrepreneur, founder, or business owner with ADHD navigating rapid growth, delegation struggles, and high cognitive load, this conversation offers actionable clarity.

Discover practical insights on ADHD business operations, accountability, and real-time decision-making when your business evolves faster than expected.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - How Viral Products Create Explosive Demand

06:00 - ADHD Product-Market Fit and Underserved Audiences

12:00 - Building and Launching a Viral Product

19:00 - Content Marketing, TikTok Virality and Storytelling

26:00 - Scaling Too Fast and Business Operations

33:00 - Perfectionism, Burnout and Entrepreneurial Growth

40:00 - Email Lists, Algorithms and Sustainable Business Growth

47:00 - Entrepreneurship, Autonomy and What Comes Next

3 Key Takeaways:

  • Find—and serve—the underserved audience. When you truly solve a need for people who’ve been overlooked, you can create explosive demand. Building something specifically for the ADHD community, with real-life empathy and nuance, was the game-changer
  • Prepare to adapt at warp speed. Virality can supercharge your business, but also breaks systems you thought could scale. Managing inventory, support, and planning for unpredictable spikes is a different beast
  • Don’t skip the foundations—even if you’re “too busy.” Invest in core systems you own—like email lists—not just social media channels. Otherwise, you’re at the mercy of algorithms or outside platforms.

Dani's viral tweet:

"Finding out you have ADHD as an adult feels like being told you suck at Mario Kart your entire life and then finding out your game generates 40 times more banana peels than it's supposed to"

About the Anti-Planner:

Tapping into her own frustrations and the lived experiences of ADHD peers, Dani Donovan spent over 3,000 hours creating The Anti-Planner, calling it a “productivity spellbook.”

It is a lovingly designed, non-linear, highly personalized compendium of over 100 strategies for overcoming procrastination and building emotional resistance.

Dani obsessed over every detail: the comforting size, playful illustrations, durable faux-leather binding, gold foil, thick paper, pen loop, and rounded corners. It is gorgeous, practical, and nothing like all the planners you’ve bought and abandoned two weeks later.

‍ ‍ ‍

THREE KEY TAKEAWAYS: ‍

1. Niche Down, Even When It Feels Wrong:

Kim went from offering many services to three core offers. It felt like leaving money on the table. Instead, it freed her to charge premium prices, attract better clients, and build a recognizable brand. ‍

2. Accept Your Wiring, Don't Fight It:

As an Obliger with ADHD traits and justice sensitivity, Kim needs external accountability and clear boundaries. She stopped wrestling with who she isn't and built systems for who she actually is. ‍

3. Structure Your Business Around Energy Patterns, Not Just Targets

Kim's energy dips in winter. Instead of pushing through, she restructured which offers she promotes seasonally. Result: a sustainable business that honors her natural rhythms. This is the 5th pillar of the ADHD-ish Method™—Planned Pauses & Pivots.

Your Overthinking ADHD Brain Is the Best Thing About Your Brand18 Aug 202600:45:07

‍Kristina Flynn has had a psychiatrist since she was twelve, collected diagnoses like frequent flyer miles (anxiety, depression, OCD, bulimia, and more), and still didn't get an ADHD diagnosis until her thirties, after her daughter's birth blew up every workaround she'd been quietly running for two decades.

‍Now she runs Story EQ, where she helps people find the story underneath their work. Everybody tells you to stop overthinking. Kristina Flynn built a company on it.

‍We talk about why doing your own branding is a fool's errand (spoiler: your brain isn't primed for reality, it's primed for your perception of reality). We talk about the Mensa-level geniuses who sit across from her and say "I'm not that interesting."

‍We talk about the specific, weirdly universal terror of what your old colleagues will think. And we talk about AI — not as a voice replicator, but as something that can understand your context if you feed it properly.

‍Fair warning: if you're sitting on an abandoned rebrand, three different mission statements you don't believe, and a nagging sense that you should be further along by now — you're going to feel a little called out. Stay with us anyway. ‍

WHAT’S INSIDE: ‍

● Why Your Old Story Isn’t the Whole Story: How narrative identity, negativity bias, and corporate conditioning have shaped the way you show up ‍

● The 4 Stories Framework (Stealable Worksheet): Start mapping your old story, bridge story, and how to shift from “it’s about me” to “it’s about them”

● Radical Self-Acceptance Checklist: 5 mindset shifts to finally move past shame, imposter feelings, and waiting for permission ‍

● Overthinking as an Asset: Quick exercises to turn rumination into action, content, and connection (instead of procrastination) ‍

● Your First Move Blueprint: Micro-steps to start building story-driven content — without oversharing or burnout

Stop Confusing Options for Opportunities: A Practical Guide to Decision Making for ADHD Entrepreneurs11 Aug 202600:31:26

Ever find yourself saying yes to a new collaboration, tool, or project—then months later wondering how you got there? If you run a business (especially with an ADHD-ish™ brain), you’re not alone.

‍In this episode, I break down why our brains confuse options for opportunities, how dopamine clouds our judgment at the moment of the ask, and share a practical “screen door” filter to make better decisions going forward.

‍Dopamine is a talent scout, not a bookkeeper: That rush of excitement we feel with something new? It’s all about anticipation—not reality. The cost and maintenance of a new yes don’t hit until much later. The trick is to slow the yes.

‍Clever ways options pretend to be opportunities:

‍The Flattering Ask: feeling chosen and visible can feel like opportunity, but might be just an option that doesn’t fit your goals.

‍The Closing Door: artificial urgency and manufactured scarcity prey on impulsive decision-making.

‍The Adjacent Idea: our shiny new ideas often show up exactly when important work becomes tedious, tempting entrepreneurs to jump ship.

‍

Why is this so hard for ADHD brains?

‍Because dopamine is LOUD and it fires at anticipation, not the actual result. That new offer or collab invitation? It’s pure possibility—no fatigue, no disappointment, no downside at first. The evaluation part comes much later, usually after you’re already committed.

Story Time

‍Diann once bought a high ticket course to “launch a high-ticket course,” and not only never opened it, but kept paying a monthly subscription for three (!) years (ADHD dopamine at work, folks—don’t feel bad, you’re not alone! 😂

‍Try this: The 4-Question "Screen Door" Filter

‍Before you say yes, ask yourself:

  1. 1. What existing goal does this serve?
  2. 2. What does it leverage that I’ve already built?
  3. ‍3. What are the terms of this commitment?
  4. ‍4. Does it survive 72 hours?

Nothing new gets a same-day yes. That 72-hour pause is where the real magic happens (and where many “opportunities” evaporate).

‍Start here:

  • *Make an idea parking lot for every new ask or idea.
  • *‍Practice the pause: “Let me check a couple things and get back to you.”
  • ‍*After 72 hours, run the 4-question test.

Some asks will quietly disappear. Others will become real, intentional decisions. Give it a try and notice how different your “yes” feels and the discomfort of waiting. That’s data.

‍

Mantra for the week:

Every yes is not a purchase—it’s a subscription. Read the terms before you sign.

A Skeptic's View of Using an AI Coach04 Aug 202600:37:36

Traditional business coaching falls short when late-night decision-making spirals hit, leaving many ADHD entrepreneurs feeling isolated and tired of generic productivity advice. As a stubbornly self-sufficient business owner, your urgent questions, pivot ideas, and friction points rarely line up with a pre-scheduled coaching call.

In this episode, Diann Wingert shares how her digital clone, Di AI, serves as a 24/7 thought partner to streamline your ADHD business strategy and lighten your daily cognitive load. Discover how on-demand support improves ADHD decision making, strengthens entrepreneur accountability, and optimizes ADHD business operations all without losing the essential human connection.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 — Introduction: AI Tools for the ADHD Entrepreneur

03:15 — Testing Digital Coaching and ADHD Decision Making

08:40 — Business Systems for ADHD Entrepreneurs

14:20 — Managing Cognitive Load in Business and Tech

19:50 — AI vs Human Entrepreneur Accountability

25:10 — ADHD Productivity for Entrepreneurs: Evaluating AI

31:05 — ADHD Executive Function in Business and Values

35:00 — Roadmap for Business Owners with ADHD

The episode explores:

  • How Elizabeth structured the experiment (including the infamous decision matrix and her “wildly unrealistic expectations”)
  • Surprising (sometimes maddening) moments where AI reflected “stupid common sense” she’d never considered
  • What ghosting an AI tool taught her about the difference between digital and human accountability
  • The unexpected role of values alignment and motivation for us “rebels”
  • Cautionary tales about outsourcing too much trust—or too much of ourselves—to technology
  • Why critical thinking and intentionality are the only way these tools ever work for ADHD-ish brains

Elizabeth and I share both the wins and the “facepalm” moments, plus an actionable tip sheet for anyone skeptical (or hopeful) about using AI for habit-building and organization.

Her pro tip: Judge the tool by the quality of questions it asks you

Don’t Miss:

Elizabeth’s three-question framework (adapted from Naturalistic Decision-Making) for deciding when and how to engage with AI tools—so you never cede too much power to an algorithm

If you’re tired of empty promises from productivity apps—or want a peek at what a scientifically-minded ADHD brain learns from kicking the tires on new tech—this episode is for you.

Fun Fact

Elizabeth shared a story about her 15-year-old niece who, when asked where they should go for dinner, responded: “I don’t know. Let me ask Chat.” The future is here and apparently it’s hungry for chatbot input

Your turn!

Make it practical: Use Di AI to help implement a tactic you picked up from the podcast, track specific goals, and follow up on progress.

Know your “why”: Consider the reason you are looking for accountability and fit AI into your schedule where you need a champion (hello, bookkeeping!)

Out of Sight, Out of Mind: How ADHD Object Permanence Leaks Money From Your Business28 Jul 202600:18:53

‍Welcome back to ADHD-ish! For many ADHD entrepreneurs, "out of sight, out of mind" is a daily reality, whether that means active client projects, strategic goals, or vital admin tasks. When working memory struggles to keep priorities front and center, simple operational gaps quickly turn into overwhelming friction, trapping business owners in cycles of panic work and unnecessary stress.

In this episode, Diann Wingert explores how ADHD object permanence uniquely impacts business operations and daily execution. You’ll discover practical strategies to build visible business systems for ADHD entrepreneurs, improve ADHD follow through, and protect your mental bandwidth—helping you maintain consistent momentum without adding to your cognitive load in business.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - Options vs Opportunities for the ADHD Entrepreneur

06:15 - Dopamine and ADHD Decision Making in Business

13:30 - Three Disguises that Overload Cognitive Load

20:45 - The Screen Door Filter for Entrepreneur Accountability

27:10 - Sustainable Systems for Business Owners with ADHD

Where Are You Leaking Money? ‍

I break it down into three layers:

1. Past Clients: Amazing people who loved working with you, would buy again, and just need a nudge. But if they’re not in your calendar or inbox—they don’t exist to your brain. Your ADHD working memory isn't the problem; your system is.

2. Leads in the ‘Dark Pipeline’: Warm prospects you were this close to converting…now forgotten until you randomly find that old email weeks later (and then feel the shame spiral). ‍This is ADHD Object Permanence in action—out of sight, completely out of mind.

3. Your Own Offers: Courses, workshops, or services you actually could be selling—but forgot you even have. How many revenue streams are invisible because of ADHD Object Permanence?

What’s the Fix? Structural Visibility ‍

Don’t go buying a new planner or promising to “try harder.” That’s not a strategy—it’s just more stress.

Instead, build software (aka systems!) around your brain’s “hardware” constraints. This is how you turn ADHD strengths and struggles into actionable business strategy.

Here’s How: ‍

● Use a CRM to remember leads for you—don't let your ADHD working memory be your only sales tool! This is structural support for ADHD Object Permanence.

● Block off time every week to review offers, check in on clients, and nudge those dark leads back into the light. Regular visibility beats relying on memory.

● Pre-schedule re-engagement emails for past clients + warm leads. Automation handles what ADHD Object Permanence makes invisible.

Where to start: ‍

Don’t overhaul everything at once. Pick one area—past clients, dark leads, or forgotten offers—and add a single piece of visibility this week. ‍

It could be as simple as pulling your last 20 clients into a spreadsheet or writing a list of every product you currently offer.

The important part is making invisible opportunities visible again. This is how you leverage ADHD strengths and struggles for revenue growth.

Eliminating Friction & Fatigue as an ADHD Solopreneur: A Client Success Story with Kathryn Bird21 Jul 202600:43:52

Standard productivity frameworks and hustle culture often sell a rigid, neatly divided version of work-life balance that rarely works for high-achieving neurodivergent brains. When you try to force hyperfocus into conventional schedules, attempting to balance intense professional drive with personal well-being frequently leads to emotional exhaustion and severe ADHD burnout in entrepreneurs.

To break this cycle, Diann Wingert dismantles the myth of traditional balance to reveal an approach built for neurodivergent momentum. Learn how resetting your operational baseline, reducing cognitive load in business, and enforcing clear boundaries can optimize your ADHD business operations while protecting your energy for sustainable growth with ADHD.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - The Truth About ADHD Executive Function in Business

04:30 - Operational Bottlenecks Facing the ADHD Small Business Owner

09:15 - ADHD Decision Making Under Heavy Working Memory Load

15:40 - Streamlining ADHD Business Operations and Daily Systems

21:10 - Delegation for Entrepreneurs Managing Small Teams

26:35 - Overcoming Executive Dysfunction and ADHD Burnout Prevention

32:00 - Real-World Entrepreneur Accountability Strategies for Growth

36:45 - Sustainable Success Frameworks for the ADHD CEO

Here are my top 3 takeaways for anyone feeling stuck in their own “success”:

  • You don’t have a million problems—just a few powerful patterns. Identifying and naming them makes change possible.
  • Your worth is not tied to your to-do list. Planning for realistic work hours, protected downtime, and recovery is the key to sanity and sustainability.
  • You get to define your boundaries. Say no, let go of what drains you, and protect your energy—even when it means “hiding” some of your projects from yourself if deleting them feels too scary.

If you find yourself working nonstop, feeling guilty about taking a break, or recreating old corporate patterns in your “dream job,” remember: nothing on your list is more important than your well-being.

What Procrastination, Resistance & Avoidance Are Trying to Tell You About Your Business14 Jul 202600:21:07

If you are a business owner with ADHD trapped in procrastination, resistance, and avoidance, stop fighting your nervous system. Standard productivity tips fail because running a business with ADHD requires a different approach. In this episode of the ADHD-ish™ Podcast, Diann Wingert reframes procrastination as essential diagnostic data signaling operational bottlenecks.

Using the ADHD-ish™ Method, learn to diagnose friction instead of using brute force. Uncover five business signals inside your resistance, align your ADHD business strategy with your neurodivergence, and achieve sustainable business growth. Tune in to turn avoidance into your greatest strategic advantage as an ADHD entrepreneur.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - Procrastination Is Business Intelligence

03:30 - Procrastination Is A Nervous System Signal

06:50 - Five Signals Behind Business Resistance

09:40 - Delegation, Decision, And Sunset Signals

13:05 - Revenue And Pricing Resistance

15:45 - Clarity And ADHD Business Strategy

3 Key Takeaways:

  • Procrastination is a signal, not a personal failing. Your nervous system might be telling you something important about your business, like a task you’ve outgrown or a decision you haven’t fully made. This is how ADHD neurodiversity communicates through resistance.
  • Five “signals” behind resistance: Delegation (tasks you should hand off), Decision (incomplete choices), Sunset (offers you need to let go), Revenue (underpriced work), and Clarity (undefined scope/stakes). Most productivity tips miss these underlying issues entirely.
  • Don’t override, diagnose first. Before pushing through with more discipline, ask “What is this resistance telling me?”—then act on the real issue behind your avoidance. This diagnostic approach honors ADHD neurodiversity.

The Reframe: Procrastination is regulatory, NOT motivational.

Your nervous system is sending a protective signal, not exposing a character flaw or lack of discipline. For ADHD neurodiversity, this shows up when something is off below the surface—even if you don't consciously know what it is. This is why traditional productivity tips often fail.

Next time you find yourself stuck, don’t reach for another productivity hack. Instead, ask: “What is my resistance trying to tell me?”

Then act on the message, not just the task. Your business, and your brain, will thank you. This is what working with ADHD neurodiversity—rather than against it—actually looks like.

No Diagnosis? No Problem! Embracing Neurodivergence Without Labels with Dr. Naketa Ren Thigpen07 Jul 202600:48:20

If you suspect you have an ADHD-ish brain but lack a formal diagnosis, you might hesitate to step into neurodivergent leadership. Driven entrepreneurs often struggle with imposter syndrome without an official label. Running a business with ADHD requires systems that honor your cognitive strengths. Discover how high-achieving founders use intuitive workarounds to thrive. You will learn how to leverage hyperfocus, handle the relational aspects of managing a team with ADHD, and build confidence as an ADHD small business owner.

05:55 - Recognizing Neurodivergent Traits In Yourself

11:40 - Neurodivergent Strengths In Entrepreneurship

17:35 - ADHD And The Power Of Hyperfocus

23:30 - Why Traditional Productivity Systems Fail

29:25 - Masking, Burnout, And Authenticity

35:40 - Building A Business Around Your Brain

42:15 - Embracing Neurodivergence As Your Advantage

3 Key Takeaways:

  • Workplace Dynamics Are Deeply Human: So many organizational challenges stem from unresolved personal issues that show up at work. As Naketa says, bringing relational intelligence into organizations is the next frontier for trust, performance, and true inclusion.
  • Diagnosis Isn’t Required for Legitimacy: You don’t need a formal diagnosis to embrace your neurodivergent identity. For some, building effective "workarounds" is enough to thrive—labels can be empowering for some and unnecessary for others, as powerfully shared.
  • Hyperfocus Is a Super Tool—With Boundaries: Our ability to “hear the words and the music”—to focus deeply and be truly present—is a neurodivergent gift. Guarding these focus states with strong boundaries is key to making the most of them, both in business and personal growth.

The Recurring Revenue Trap: The Hidden Cost of "Stable" Income for Business Owners with ADHD30 Jun 202600:30:46

If you are a business owner with ADHD, mainstream advice says business growth requires recurring revenue. However, predictable retainers often cause burnout for neurodivergent entrepreneurs who thrive on novelty. In this episode of the ADHD-ish™ Podcast, Diann Wingert exposes the "recurring revenue trap" and the mismatch between traditional models and an ADHD brain.

Instead of forcing rigid operations, learn to align your offers with your brain wiring. Discover how project sprints and a value-based ADHD business strategy generate predictable income without routine boredom. Tune in to eliminate scope creep and build aligned success on your own terms.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Strategy: The Recurring Revenue Trap

05:00 - Neurodiversity and the Science of Recurring Revenue

07:30 - Avoiding ADHD Entrepreneur Burnout in Client Retainers

11:45 - Value Based Pricing Strategy for ADHD Entrepreneurs

18:20 - 6 Dopamine-Rich Business Strategy Alternatives

3 key takeaways for ADHD business owners:

  • Predictability vs. Novelty: Recurring revenue models (like retainers and memberships) are built for brains that thrive on sameness and routine—not the dopamine-hungry ADHD brain, which craves novelty, challenge, and change. Understanding neurodiversity means designing around these realities, not fighting them.
  • Structural Not Personal: Burning out on reliable income streams isn’t a failure—it’s a sign of structural mismatch. ADHD brains are wired to lose motivation with repetitive, predictable work. This is where value based pricing strategy becomes essential—charging for outcomes and transformation, not time.
  • Design for Your Brain: You DON’T have to quit recurring revenue altogether. Instead, intentionally build novelty into your recurring offers—limited run cohorts, rotating scopes, themed “seasons,” and planned refreshes let you keep both financial stability and creative energy. A flexible retainer model can honor both your needs and your neurodiversity.

6 Dopamine-rich alternatives to boring recurring revenue models:

  • Limited-run cohorts: Short sprints, not never-ending slogs
  • Retainers with rotating scope: New focus each quarter keeps it fresh
  • Memberships by season/theme: Built-in breaks & changing content
  • Quarterly intensives: Ditch the monthly grind; go deep, then rest
  • Planned sunsets: Don’t beat dead offers—set a clear end date!
  • Built-in refreshes: Schedule reinventions before boredom strikes

The offer you’re white-knuckling today is NOT the offer that’ll get you to the next level. Try, tweak, or sunset—but make it on YOUR terms.

Fun Fact from the Episode

There’s a term in the tech industry for endlessly fussing with tiny details called “yak shaving.” Turns out, it’s not just about perfecting code—but can be a major sign you’re avoiding a bigger decision. Jabari calls it circling the drain, and I refer to it as fluffing the pillows.

Whether it's the obsessive nature of ADHD perfectionism, anxiety about feeling we need to prove ourselves, or keeping ourselves too busy with the small stuff to confront the big stuff, or a combination plate of all of the above, set a limit on this tendency to keep from holding yourself back while feeling productive.

"Somebody Stole My Sh*t!" : Copycats, Counterfeiters, and How to Protect What You've Built, with Dani Donovan09 Jun 202600:56:30

‍From her unexpected rise as an ADHD comic creator to pouring over 3,000 hours into designing The Anti-Planner, a "productivity spell book," Dani Donovan is a force of nature.

In this lively interview, Dani shares her unfiltered journey of building a tool for people tired of feeling like failures, dealing with the emotional roller coaster of intellectual property theft, and navigating impostors selling shoddy knockoffs of her labor of love.

‍We discuss what goes into protecting your intellectual property as an entrepreneur, why valuing your own creative work is vital, and what Dani wishes she’d known before dealing with copycat chaos and the steep cost of defending her business.

Her story underscores why trademark protection and legal safeguards aren't luxuries—they're essential armor for small business ownership.

‍If you’ve ever obsessed over planners you never use, struggled with perfectionism and procrastination, or wondered what it really takes to launch and protect something one-of-a-kind—this episode will resonate.

‍Get ready for hard truths, laughter, and transparency about the messy realities of ADHD entrepreneurship.

‍

Key takeaways for fellow creators and founders:

‍Protect Your IP Early - Dani Donovan’s story underscores the importance of copyrighting your content and considering trademarks before you reach mass awareness—even an overseas copyright or trademark if necessary.

Counterfeiting Can Happen to You - Whether you’re just starting out or have a viral hit, don’t assume your business is “too small” to be targeted. Copycats watch for what’s trending, and success makes you a target.

‍Community & Transparency Matter - Sharing the messy, challenging parts (like publicly addressing counterfeiting) can activate support from customers and fellow entrepreneurs—and may even lead to further growth and visibility.

‍Fun Fact From The Episode

‍When the first shipment of the Anti-Planner arrived, people (including myself) literally hugged it to their chest—and it wasn’t by accident! Dani intentionally made it “therapy pillow-sized” based on how she wanted users to feel about it.

‍

About today’s guest, Dani Donovan:

‍Dani Donovan is an award-winning designer and creator of the viral hit product, "The Anti-Planner: How to Get Sh*t Done When You Don't Feel Like It." Known for her relatable ADHD comics, tweets, and TikToks, she's been helping shape the online neurodiversity community since 2018.

Dani was the closing keynote speaker at the 2021 International ADHD Conference, and her work has helped thousands of people seek an ADHD diagnosis and treatment.

Mentioned during the episode:

‍Alibaba ‍ - Steve Peha - Copyscape Plagarism Checker ‍- MarqVision Brand Protection Agency

‍

About the Anti-Planner:

‍Tapping into her own frustrations and the lived experiences of ADHD peers, Dani Donovan spent over 3,000 hours creating The Anti-Planner, a “productivity spellbook”—a lovingly designed, non-linear, highly personalized compendium of over 100 strategies for overcoming procrastination and building emotional resistance.

‍Dani obsessed over every detail: the comforting size, playful illustrations, durable faux-leather binding, gold foil, thick paper, pen loop, and rounded corners. It is gorgeous, practical, and nothing like all the planners you’ve bought and abandoned two weeks later. I absolutely love mine!

Time Blindness is a Pricing Problem, not Just a Productivity Problem02 Jun 202600:21:20

‍Traditionally seen as a productivity flaw, time blindness is revealed here as a money problem, quietly undermining pricing, profits, and self-worth for solopreneurs with ADHD.

This episode explores why common fixes like timers and time blocking miss the deeper issue, and instead, offers practical ways to design around the unique ADHD brain.

Listeners can expect actionable tools—like range pricing, value-based pricing, and multipliers—to help create smarter, ADHD-friendly business practices.

Key Takeaways:

1. Why time blindness is more of a money issue than a productivity problem

Missed deadlines are visible, but it’s the underpriced projects and unseen labor that are draining your profits.

2. How the ADHD brain’s sense of time impacts your pricing (and sends you into the red)

3. Why accurate estimation is a myth—and what to do instead

Spoiler: The strategic move is to build pricing that works with your brain

The Three Places You’re Losing Money

The invisible cost of time blindness shows up in three big ways in most service-based businesses—and maybe in yours too:

● Quoting New Work: Saying “yes” to projects we’ve never done, referencing a project that only looks similar, and then confidently (but cluelessly) assigning a price. Inevitably, unknowns explode, and you end up working for free

● Scoping Familiar Work: Every project you think you know by heart, but memory only shows you the highlight reel.

● Hidden Labor: The worst offender. All the little admin tasks, endless revisions, back-and-forth emails, and extra meetings never get included in my quote. They don’t feel like “billable” work, but they devour hours and energy in unpaid work.

Six Pricing Strategies that Correct The Effects of Time Blindness:

● Range Pricing: Quote within a range, not a fixed number.

● Value-Based Pricing: Charge for outcomes, not hours.

● Multipliers & Buffers: Take your default quote and multiply it (1.5x, 2x, even 2.5x if you’re feeling brave).

● Project vs. Hourly Pricing: Bill by project, not hours, so you’re aren’t penalized for hyperfocus sprints

● Built-In Revision Rounds & Communication Caps: Set clear boundaries on extra work and comms, and make it official.

Time blindness isn’t going away—but by meeting your brain where it is, you can transform ADHD traits from liabilities into business assets. Design your pricing not despite your ADHD, but in partnership with it—and start keeping your hard-earned money where it belongs: in your business.

Try The Multiplier Experiment on your next proposal:

1. Write down the number you want to send.

2. Multiply it by 1.5x (or higher—it should feel just a bit stretchy).

3. Send that quote. Notice the resistance, the stories, the “what ifs.”

4. Collect the data: Did the client say yes? No? What did you learn?

Every proposal is a data point for better pricing decisions. Stop leaving money on the table!

You Want to Be a Published Author, but You Have ADHD, with Meg Casebolt26 May 202600:45:36

Ever wondered how someone with a full plate—a thriving business, a family, a neurodiverse household, AND a stack of published books—still finds time to sleep?

Or better yet… how they use their ADHD to power all of it? If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your own creativity or wondered if you’re “too much,” you’re going to love this interview with returning guest and my SEO consultant, Meg Casebolt. Her approach to neurodiversity in business proves that ADHD can be a strategic advantage, not a limitation.

Meg is an entrepreneurial powerhouse who perfectly embodies the phrase “multi-passionate with a mission.” I’m talking about building a successful SEO consultancy while cranking out several romance novels, nonfiction books, and helping others find their voices—all with the magic (and occasional mayhem) of an ADHD brain. Her writing strategy and approach to creative writing offer a blueprint for managing multiple projects without burning out.

This is not a conversation about “doing it all.” It’s about how to let your brain’s unique wiring become your greatest asset. Meg shares candidly about her writing journey: from being a childhood word nerd, to losing the joy of writing through academia’s rigidity, and then rediscovering the creative spark during the uncertainty of the pandemic.

Ever felt like your nervous system is on overdrive? You’re not alone—turns out writing romance novels was exactly what Meg needed to dial down anxiety and reclaim hope. This is neurodiversity in business at its most authentic.

Here are my top 3 takeaways from our chat:

  • Creativity Needs Structure:

Meg breaks big projects like writing novels and business books into manageable, bite-sized sessions—30 minutes a day can add up to published work and reduced overwhelm.

  • Curate Your Input to Cultivate Your Output:

Both of us have found that reducing media consumption and focusing on our unique perspectives boosts creativity and clarity—whether you’re writing, building, or rebranding.

  • Honor Your Brain (and Your Needs):

It’s not about doing it all—it's about doing what fuels you. Speaker B balances left- and right-brain work, has learned to say no to platforms that drain her energy, and finds flow by following her interests and intrinsic motivations.

About today’s guest, Meg Casebolt:

Meg Casebolt helps experienced founders, consultants, and creators become findable in AI-powered search—not through keyword tactics, but through strategic authority positioning.

As founder of Love At First Search, she works with experts who don’t need more SEO advice but do need a new way to be understood by modern search systems.

Her approach focuses on helping people become quotable and recommendable: teaching them to claim specific expertise territory and build the signals AI uses to evaluate credibility.

Diann’s Note: After I lost 10k followers on social media accounts overnight due to hackers, I was determined to learn SEO and started working with Meg. Within 1 year, I rank at the top of all search engines in my niche, and 50% of my clients now find me through online search.

How Successful ADHD Entrepreneurs Trigger Hyperfocus on Demand19 May 202600:23:16

Welcome back to ADHD-ish™, where we're kicking off a five-episode series reframing the most talked-about ADHD traits as tools for entrepreneurial success, starting with hyperfocus.

Forget the myth that hyperfocus is a rare, unpredictable gift. ADHD-ish™ host, Diann Wingert, reveals that the most successful ADHD entrepreneurs create the conditions for hyperfocus rather than hoping it just shows up.

Here’s the game-changing insight:

Hyperfocus is a state, not a fixed trait—and you can stack the deck to get into it on demand.

3 Key Takeaways:

Engineer Your Hyperfocus: Don’t wait for the muse—set up conditions like real deadlines, novel environments, meaningful rewards, supportive sensory cues, and a nourished body to invite focus on demand.

Body Doubling is a Real Strategy: Working alongside others—friends on Zoom, coworking sessions, or even a busy coffee shop—provides social accountability and can reliably spark focus.

Stack Conditions, Not Guilt: Hyperfocus isn’t about willpower; it’s about stacking multiple supportive factors. Even intentionally stacking just two of these can create momentum in your business.

Hyperfocus can be a genuine business asset—if you learn to direct it. But, there are hidden costs to hyperfocus, too:

  • Mental exhaustion and decision fatigue
  • Neglected relationships
  • Other parts of your business are left idle

Remember: Hyperfocus is a power tool. Use it wisely—and plan for the comedown.

What’s My Hyperfocus Setup?

In my own business, I decide, ahead of time, exactly what needs my hyper-focused attention and how much time I’ll devote to it.

The routine is precise: comfortable clothes, a high-protein breakfast, natural light, a pre-game ritual of exercise, sunshine, and social connection. And hydration throughout the hyperfocused state. No brain jerky for me.

What’s not in my routine: willpower, white-knuckling, bullying myself or shame. The environment is repeatable, the stakes are real, and the body, mind, and brain are primed and ready. After it's over? Rest, recalibration, and reconnection.

Hyperfocus as Skill - Start Here:

Pick one 90-minute block of business-critical work.

Deliberately create at least two of the five conditions above.

Do the work—and observe the impact on your focus.

Don’t be an overachiever and do all five. Start small, track the effect, and iterate. It’s not a productivity contest—it’s your personal hyperfocus experiment.

Myths About Virtual Assistants That Prevent ADHD Entrepreneurs From Getting The Help They Need, with Avigail Schondorf12 May 202600:39:50

ADHD fundamentally impacts executive function—the mental skills for planning, prioritizing, delegating, and following through. So, when an entrepreneur hires a VA and is expected to onboard, direct, and give detailed instructions, they’re faced with a mismatch: the very skills they struggle with are those they now must use to instruct their assistant.

Traditional VAs, trained to “do what they’re told,” end up sitting idle, waiting for direction, while the entrepreneur is paralyzed by indecision and shame. The result? Money is wasted, little is accomplished, and increased frustration, making it even harder to try again.

What if support could be different? What if, instead of looking for a “unicorn” VA who can do everything, ADHD entrepreneurs sought out “distant assistants”—human lifelines who specialize in executive functioning, regulated communication, and operationalized thinking?Today’s guest is Avigail (Avy) Schondorf, fellow ADHD entrepreneur, podcaster, and owner of the Alisto agency that trains and outsources distant assistants who understand what neurodivergent business owners really need.

This conversation is full of insights, humor, cringeworthy moments, and a new paradigm for shame-free support.

Here are 3 key takeaways for anyone considering hiring support:

  • A “bad” solution is not worse than no solution. Many ADHD entrepreneurs avoid help out of fear that it won’t work, but that only fuels more shame and wasted energy.
  • Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment or system. The real tipping point isn’t having more work—it’s being ready to ask for what you need, without shame.
  • Stop looking for unicorns—lean into teams. Expecting one assistant to do everything sets everyone up for failure. Specialized support means you (and your VA) can play to your strengths.

If “doing it all myself” isn’t scalable OR sustainable, maybe it’s time to delegate differently—and embrace asking for help as a sign of strength.

About today’s guest, Avigail (Avy) Schondorf:

Avigail (Avy) Schondorf is a social worker turned entrepreneur who built two companies around the way her brain actually works.

She's the founder of Alisto Virtual Workforce, a team of Distant Assistants who specialize in supporting neurodivergent entrepreneurs — and AvyHD, her strategy and thought leadership brand where she gets real about ADHD, delegation, and building a business without burning out.

When she's not running her team or hosting the AvyHD Podcast, she's lifting weights, reading, or wrangling two very energetic daughters.

Four Ways High Functioning ADHD Entrepreneurs Put Their Mental Health at Risk05 May 202600:31:46

High-functioning ADHD entrepreneurs often mask chronic stress behind professional success, leaving hidden mental health risks unaddressed. When outward capability hides internal strain, common cognitive traps, physical overexertion, and emotional isolation can quietly lead to severe burnout.

This episode explores practical ADHD business strategy and tailored ADHD business coaching tools to restore balance. By understanding executive function demands and building intentional business systems, a business owner with ADHD can protect their mental health while driving sustainable growth.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - High-Functioning ADHD and Mental Health Risks

03:25 - Cognitive Traps Behind ADHD Entrepreneur Burnout

08:15 - Nervous System Confusion and Chronic Stress

13:10 - Recovery Failures That Drain ADHD Entrepreneurs

17:05 - Social Isolation and Identity Loss

21:45 - Building Connection and Support Systems

26:20 - Preventing Burnout Through Sustainable Recovery

30:00 - Protecting Your Mental Health as an ADHD Entrepreneur

Four hidden risk categories:

1. Cognitive Traps

These are thinking patterns that feel like logic but quietly work against us. Do any of these sound familiar?

  • The perpetually moving finish line (rest is always “after the next thing”)
  • “I work better under pressure” — sound familiar? It’s a seductive trap, not a strategy!
  • Comparing your struggles to others and invalidating your own needs

2. Nervous System Confusion

You might think you’re resting when you’re actually just switching to a different kind of stimulation (hello, endless content consumption!).

Genuine restoration often looks like boredom at first, but it’s what your mind and body actually need.

3. Recovery Failures

High-functioning ADHD people are notorious for skipping the habits that keep us steady, especially when we need them the most.

  • Jumping right back into work after time off? That’s the “vacation tax.”
  • Ditching sleep, movement, and real food when stress rises? That’s called “stress inversion.”
  • Having no interests or life outside your business? That’s a hidden drain on your energy and identity.

4. Loss of Connection & Identity

Busyness can become a mask for loneliness. Relationships that aren’t transactional quietly disappear, and your sense of self can erode until it’s fused with your business.

If your only role is “the one who has it together” for everyone else, this one may hit home especially hard.

You are not broken. These patterns are the predictable result of managing ADHD in a career that rewards output and intensity.

If you recognize yourself in this description, don’t make it another to-do item. Instead, let this be an invitation: Pause. Notice. Take your own needs seriously, even—and especially—when you’re “doing well.”

Your mental health is always worth protecting, no matter how high-functioning ADHD you appear to others.

Hire the Hurricane Chasers: Why The Best Team You'll Ever Build Looks Nothing Like You've Been Taught, with Ian Wilson28 Apr 202600:43:36

Welcome back to ADHD-ish! Traditional hiring and management frameworks often fail neurodivergent business owners trying to build a reliable team. When traditional management advice creates operational friction, business founders need specialized approaches to delegation and team leadership that accommodate non-linear work styles.

This episode explores dynamic neurodivergent leadership and team-building frameworks tailored for an ADHD small business owner. By structuring adaptive communication channels and implementing aligned business systems, an ADHD founder can delegate effectively and foster long-term growth.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Strategy for Non-Traditional Team Building

05:12 - Entrepreneurial Origins as a Business Owner with ADHD

11:35 - Neurodivergent Leadership: Pairing ADHD and Autistic Strengths

18:40 - ADHD Team Leadership and Hiring Hurricane Chasers

25:15 - Cultivating Autonomy and Mastery in ADHD Business Operations

31:08 - ADHD Founder Insights on Hiring Traits Over Credentials

36:42 - Unapologetic Value Pricing and ADHD Business Growth

41:10 - Scaling a Business with ADHD Through Neurodivergent Culture

Three key takeaways:

  • Self-awareness and self-acceptance matter more than “best practices.” Knowing what you’re brilliant at—and what you hate—makes it so much easier to build a business (and find team members) that complement your strengths and support your growth.
  • Hire for traits, not just skills. Ian’s team isn’t made up of “perfect resumes” but of entrepreneurial thinkers who enjoy solving problems and don’t need to be micromanaged. Find the ones who vibe with your approach and love challenging themselves to figure things out.
  • Be bold about your value. Ian & Eric tell prospects: “We’re probably the most expensive quote you’ll get—and here’s why.” Setting unapologetic boundaries not only draws the right clients but also creates a culture of excellence and transparency.

Mic Drop Moment:

Ian & Eric deliberately hire people who crave these three things, no matter their resume. Their neurodivergent advantage? Investing in traits, not credentials.

  • Autonomy: Freedom to do things your way.
  • Mastery: The drive to get better and own your craft.
  • Ownership: Feeling like your contributions actually matter.

About today’s guest, Ian Wilson:

Ian is the Co-Founder and Creative Director of buildcreate, a full-service B2B marketing agency for manufacturing, technology, engineering, and industrial clients in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Home-schooled and entrepreneurial from childhood, Ian discovered his ADHD as an adult. He and his business partner, Eric Lynch, who is autistic, have discovered that their secret sauce as neurodivergent leaders is to hire smart people and let them work to their strengths.

When Your ADHD Brain Hits Empty: Decision Fatigue, Emotional Labor & Ego Depletion21 Apr 202600:25:09

Everyday choices and constant self-control can drain mental energy, leaving neurodivergent founders vulnerable to severe operational paralysis. When high mental workloads trigger decision fatigue, business owners struggle to maintain momentum, regulate focus, and protect their daily productivity.

This episode explores the mechanics of executive function capacity and targeted ADHD business strategy to preserve cognitive energy. By streamlining daily workflows and implementing intentional business systems, an ADHD entrepreneur can reduce choice overload, protect decision quality, and support sustainable business growth.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Strategy for Managing Ego Depletion

04:15 - Why Decision Fatigue Hits a Business Owner with ADHD

09:30 - Invisible Labor Draining Executive Function in ADHD Business

15:10 - Overcoming Rejection Sensitivity when Running a Business with ADHD

20:25 - Replenishing Mental Capacity for the ADHD Small Business Owner

What is Ego Depletion?

Ego depletion is the idea that self-control is a limited resource—every tough decision, every time you push through discomfort, you draw down the tank a bit more. And for those of us with ADHD, that tank starts out smaller and empties faster.

ADHD brains work harder to stay focused, resist distractions, and mask our real struggles behind a “put-together” exterior. All of that is invisible work—work that drains our resources and directly impacts executive function ADHD capacity.

Why Does This Matter for Entrepreneurs?

If you run your own business, chances are, you’re making choices all day long. Decision fatigue hits fast when your working memory is taxed, and the emotional labor, rejection sensitivity, ambiguity, and hyperfocusing can all leave you running on fumes.

And when the tank runs dry? That’s when the late-day impulsive emails, knee-jerk “yeses” to bad projects, and pricing compromises hit. It’s not poor judgment—it’s overdrawn capacity. This is one of the core ADHD strengths and struggles we navigate as entrepreneurs.

About the host, Diann Wingert

Diann Wingert is a business strategist, coach, serial entrepreneur, former psychotherapist, and passionate thought leader at the intersection of ADHD and entrepreneurship.

Through practical neuroscience and accessible storytelling, Diann empowers others to understand their brains, manage their energy, and show compassion to themselves as they navigate the demands of running a business with an ADHD brain.

Five Triggers That Drain Your Brain

  1. Decision Overload: Every “tiny” business choice eats up self-regulation energy. All those open tabs in your mind have a cost.
  2. Emotional Labor: Managing client feelings, financial uncertainties, and the constant hum of ambiguity depletes you, even if “nothing is happening.”
  3. Sustained Focus (and Hyperfocus): Even fun, project-based deep work can leave nothing left for anything else once the session’s over.
  4. Masking: Trying to look “together” when you don’t feel it is invisible labor, not covered in most productivity advice.
  5. Sleep and Blood Sugar: When you run low in these departments, you start the day with a deficit.

Practical Strategies: Refilling the Tank

Knowledge is useless without practice. Here’s what’s working for my clients and me:

Protect the Peak Window - Notice when focus comes more naturally. Schedule your highest-value and most “expensive” mental work then. Don’t let admin or reactive tasks steal your best hours.

Ruthless Pre-Decision - I now audit decisions weekly: What can I automate? Which choices can be made in advance? This includes everything from client policies to what I eat for breakfast. I have a breakfast rotation now that saves me about 10 minutes every morning—energy I use elsewhere.

Don’t Skip the Refueling - Eating on a schedule is non-negotiable. I use an alarm for lunch because, without external cues, I’ll work straight through and crash later. Treat meals and breaks with the same gravity you would an important meeting.

Schedule Intentional Resets - Real mental breaks matter. Laughter, small pleasures, or even a quick walk create real returns. I log two restorative breaks in my calendar daily—not as a luxury, but as mental maintenance.

Prioritize Sleep as a Business Tool - Nothing refills the willpower account like rest. Chronically starting the day depleted only feeds the self-doubt loop. Honoring my natural sleep needs—even if it means leaning into night-owl tendencies strategically—made a profound difference.

How Celebrating Tiny Wins with ADHD Boosts Motivation & Beats Burnout, with Risa Williams14 Apr 202600:39:13

Standard productivity advice often leaves neurodivergent founders stuck in loops of executive dysfunction and frustration. When forced motivation creates burnout, business owners need practical strategies that work alongside their natural brain chemistry rather than fighting against it.

Implementing tailored ADHD business strategy and aligned business systems helps maintain momentum without constant friction. By honoring executive function limits and leveraging dopamine-friendly workflows, an ADHD entrepreneur can clear task paralysis and foster sustainable business growth.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Strategy for Beating Entrepreneurial Burnout

04:30 - Overcoming Negativity Bias as a Business Owner with ADHD

09:15 - Why Toxic Dismissiveness Sabotages ADHD Business Growth

14:40 - Reframing Productivity for the ADHD Entrepreneur

20:05 - The Science of Dopamine and Micro-Validation

25:50 - Combatting Imposter Syndrome when Running a Business with ADHD

31:10 - Daily Tracking Systems for an ADHD Founder

36:25 - Sustainable Momentum for Long-Term ADHD Small Business Success

3 key takeaways from our conversation:

  • Redefine Productivity: Success isn’t just about big goals—it’s about acknowledging every step, even the small ones. Practicing this daily fosters confidence and decreases imposter syndrome and chronic dissatisfaction.
  • Combat Dismissiveness: Many of us grew up being dismissed or dismissing ourselves. Start catching that dismissive inner voice. Replace it with gentle validation—give yourself credit the way you’d celebrate a friend’s progress.
  • Track and Celebrate Progress: Write down 3–5 tiny accomplishments every day. Over time, this simple act retrains your brain to notice and remember your efforts, fueling motivation and staving off burnout.

Mic Drop Moment:

Many high achievers with ADHD also battle imposter syndrome. Why? Because they literally cannot remember the many incremental steps it took to get results. If you don’t witness your own progress, you can’t internalize your success. The result: even evidence-based accomplishments don’t “count,” fueling the endless treadmill of “not good enough.”

Stimulant Medication for Entrepreneurs with ADHD: What Difference Does it Make?07 Apr 202600:25:58

If you think starting medication will magically fix your back-end operations and clear your inbox, this conversation is your necessary reality check. Medication targets neurotransmitters—it gives you access to executive function, but it won't organize your schedule, write your SOPs, or stop you from hyperfocusing on the wrong priority for six hours straight.

Pairing neurobiology with solid ADHD business strategy bridges the gap between brain chemistry and actual operational clarity. Building tailored business systems alongside supportive ADHD business coaching ensures that newly gained focus translates into sustainable growth rather than faster-paced overwhelm.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Strategy for Executive Function Support

04:20 - Realities of Stimulant Medication for the ADHD Entrepreneur

09:45 - Optimizing ADHD Business Operations Beyond Medication

15:10 - Daily Focus and Clarity for the ADHD CEO

20:05 - Sustainable Focus Strategies for Running a Business with ADHD

3 Key Takeaways:

  • Stimulants = Wakefulness + Salience boost: They don’t “fix” your attention span—they make your brain more awake (like a great night’s sleep) and make boring tasks feel more worth doing.
  • Sleep is a performance variable, not optional: Meds can mask sleep deprivation, but can’t fix it. If you’re hitting a wall by afternoon, it’s likely a sleep issue, not a “bad brain” or “bad med” issue.
  • Build your business around your real needs: Use your medicated hours for tedious-but-critical tasks, create systems that connect daily actions to meaningful outcomes, and get super-specific in conversations about what “isn’t working”—the answer isn’t always a higher dose.

ADHD & The Lifetime Legacy of Bullying with Brooke Schnittman31 Mar 202600:42:08

Past experiences with bullying and social exclusion leave lingering marks that often bleed directly into how neurodivergent founders run their companies. When unaddressed childhood conditioning drives people-pleasing, boundary erosion, or severe rejection sensitivity, running a business becomes emotionally exhausting rather than empowering.

Unpacking these hidden patterns allows an ADHD entrepreneur to step into confident, grounded leadership. Integrating supportive ADHD business coaching tools alongside strong business systems helps protect emotional capacity, enforce firm professional boundaries, and drive sustainable growth.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Coaching and Unpacking Early Social Trauma

04:15 - How Bullying Shapes the Mindset of an ADHD Entrepreneur

08:50 - Overcoming Rejection Sensitivity as a Business Owner with ADHD

13:40 - ADHD Leadership and Reclaiming Workplace Self-Worth

18:10 - ADHD Founder Leadership and Building Trauma-Informed Resilience

Here are 4 key takeaways for anyone navigating ADHD (or supporting neurodivergent folks):

  • What makes it bullying? Repetitive pattern - Power imbalance - Harm
  • Bullying rarely ends with childhood: For adults with ADHD, bullying simply morphs. Physical teasing and exclusion may become workplace micromanagement, social exclusion, and subtle undermining.
  • The harm goes beyond “hurt feelings.” Chronic criticism and exclusion keep the brain’s stress system on high alert, triggering anxiety, imposter syndrome, burnout, and even making executive dysfunction worse.
  • Self-acceptance + community are critical. When we name bullying for what it is and seek out supportive communities, we can start to untangle shame and build resilience. As Brooke notes: “We were never too much. We were exactly who we were meant to be, just waiting for a world that could understand us.”

About Brooke Schnittman, MA, PCC, BCC:

Brooke Schnittman is an ADHD coach, educator, and advocate for adults with ADHD. With years of working directly with individuals and families, she noticed an alarming pattern: bullying is not only common in the lives of people with ADHD but is also a neglected topic in ADHD research and support. Brooke’s recent pioneering survey on adult ADHD and bullying—the first of its kind—has started an essential conversation about the legacy of bullying, how it changes form over time, and how those affected can heal and thrive

Three Ways to Pivot in Business to Avoid Burning Out or Burning It All Down, with Megan Eckman17 Mar 202600:34:46

What if changing direction in your business isn't a sign of failure, but a strategic move toward your full potential? For neurodivergent founders, recognized market shifts often spark intense self-doubt, decision fatigue, and rejection sensitivity, leaving you stuck between an outdated path and an unexecuted vision.

Executing a successful pivot requires pairing your natural adaptability with grounded ADHD business strategy. Establishing intentional business systems and leveraging tailored ADHD business coaching allows an ADHD small business owner to realign core offers, streamline delegation, and protect long-term growth.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Strategy for Preventing Entrepreneurial Burnout

04:50 - The Micro-Pivot: Strategic Adjustments for ADHD Business Growth

10:15 - The Macro-Pivot: Realigning Priorities When Running a Business with ADHD

16:40 - The Exit Strategy: Clean Breaks for the ADHD Founder

21:30 - Scaling a Business with ADHD Without Burning Out

Why You’ll Love It:

Megan walks us through the three ways she’s learned to pivot and the circumstances that led to each one, allowing her to follow her curiosity and pursue her creative impulses, without risking her well-being or financial stability:

Test & Build - Learning to listen to your customers, running small experiments, and transitioning into new opportunities

Jump Without a Parachute: The Hard Stop Pivot - When a dramatic, not-so-planned exit from a thriving business is the way to save your sanity —and what it really takes to walk away.

The Hibernate & Resuscitate Pivot - Sometimes the best move isn’t quitting cold turkey, but putting a project “in the freezer” while you work on your next big idea.

Three key takeaways:

  • Pivoting isn’t failure—it’s evolution. Whether you’re testing and building, taking a bold leap, or putting a project into hibernation, each pivot can be a strategic step toward growth and alignment. (Diann said it perfectly: “You can burn out on your own success just as easily. Maybe even easier.”)
  • Curiosity is your greatest asset. Megan Eckman reveals how following her curiosity—not just passion or profit—helped her create unique offers and build true superfans, even when the work didn’t “look” like her dream on paper.
  • Burnout prevention requires boundaries and self-awareness. Recognize when you’ve hit your scale ceiling—or when you’re simply not excited anymore. It’s okay to say “enough,” recalibrate, and design your next chapter intentionally, not reactively.

Mic Drop Moment:

“It was basically a ‘hold my beer, I’ll go build that business for you.’ To be fair, they did wait a month.” Megan Eckman

Simple suggestions for preparing for your next potential pivot:

1) Assess emotional, financial, and market conditions regularly.

2) Define your personal “red flags” for burnout and your criteria for build and grow, hard stop and hibernate, and resuscitate pivots

3) Inventory current and planned activities, noting which are energizing versus draining.

4) Keep communication open with your clients/community during hibernation phases. You never know who might want to be a part of whatever you do next.

The True Cost of a Delayed ADHD Diagnosis in Women10 Mar 202600:22:08

Did a late diagnosis finally reveal why traditional business strategies left you chronically exhausted despite your success? Realizing you’ve been running a company without your brain's actual owner's manual explains why cookie-cutter corporate advice never delivered sustainable momentum.

Reframing past struggles around your actual executive function needs creates immediate room for strategic alignment. By pairing targeted ADHD business coaching with neurodivergent-friendly business systems, an ADHD entrepreneur can structure daily operations, protect precious bandwidth, and scale with genuine clarity.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Coaching and Addressing Gender Diagnostics Gaps

05:10 - Unmasking Late-Diagnosed Traits as a Business Owner with ADHD

11:25 - Overcoming Imposter Syndrome as an ADHD Entrepreneur

17:40 - Neurodivergent Leadership and Reclaiming Professional Identity

22:15 - Transforming Late Diagnosis Into Strong ADHD Leadership

3 key takeaways:

  • Masking isn’t thriving. Many women spend years camouflaging their struggles, only to later realize they were “passing for normal” rather than actually okay.
  • Delayed diagnosis has real professional costs. Every ounce of energy spent managing ourselves is bandwidth that’s not going into growth, strategy, or creativity in our businesses—and it adds up.
  • Early awareness changes lives. The sooner ADHD is identified—especially in girls—the fewer years are lost to self-blame and missed opportunities.

About the host

Diann Wingert is a passionate advocate and expert on ADHD, rooted in her own delayed diagnosis, as well as two decades of experience as a licensed psychotherapist, serial business owner, and parent of several children with ADHD.

For years, Diann—and many women like her—carried a persistent sense that “something’s wrong with me,” a quiet conviction fed by a lack of answers and the feeling that everyone else had life figured out. This experience led her to see the reality: women with ADHD were hiding in plain sight, while the world slowly learned to recognize their struggles.

Now, as the host of the podcast ADHD-ish and an internationally recognized ADHD business coach, Diann welcomes a community of listeners searching for understanding and authenticity, promising strategic guidance and an honest exploration into what it means to live and run a business with ADHD

Which Company Culture is Your ADHD Brain Building?24 Feb 202600:40:17

Traditional corporate environments rarely fit neurodivergent leadership styles, and forcing rigid management models onto your team usually leads to quiet frustration. When workplace expectations lack flexibility, an ADHD founder ends up absorbing the daily friction that drains core focus.

A thoughtful approach to team leadership makes room for clear communication, high autonomy, and natural working habits. Integrating practical ADHD business strategy with flexible business systems helps an ADHD entrepreneur maintain a supportive environment alongside stable operations.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

05:00 - The Competing Values Culture Model Overview

10:30 - Unpacking the Accidental Adhocracy

16:00 - The True Cost of Novelty-Seeking and Chaos

21:30 - Exploring the Accidental Clan Culture

27:00 - Navigating Conflict Avoidance and Accountability

32:30 - Assessing Your Business Culture Honestly

37:45 - Taking High-Leverage Corrective Action

40:17 - Intentional Culture Design for ADHD Founders

Organizational Psychologists Quinn & Cameron identified that 90% of companies worldwide fall into one of these four types of company cultures in their Competing Values Culture Model:

  • Clan (Family): Collaborative, relationship-focused, but slow to make tough calls.
  • Adhocracy (Innovators): Fast-paced, risk-taking, constant brainstorming – but often unstable and unfinished.
  • Market (Competitors): Results-driven, clear metrics, high stakes – can burn people out.
  • Hierarchy (Machine): Structured, predictable, rule-heavy – can stifle creativity.

Most founders with ADHD unintentionally create either:

  • “Accidental Adhocracy”: Innovative (read: scattered), chasing novelty for dopamine, team struggles with chaos and change, projects rarely get finished.
  • “Accidental Clan”: Warm, fuzzy, avoiding confrontation, underperformers stick around, roles are blurry, you feel more like a therapist than a CEO.

3-Step Plan to Build Your Business Culture on Purpose

1. Honestly Assess Your Current Culture

Ask tough questions—from “Who really solves problems here?” to “How many projects did we actually finish this quarter?”

2. Get Real About What’s Working… and What’s Not

List out where your accidental culture is winning—and where it’s burning you or your team out.

3. Pick ONE High-Leverage Change

Don’t try to overhaul it all. Make one intentional hire (like a project manager or COO) or put a single new process between your ideas and your team. Act, observe, and iterate.

You get to choose your culture.

The question isn’t if your ADHD is shaping your business, but how.

About the Host, Diann Wingert:

Drawing from her experience as a psychotherapist and serial business owner and her understanding of ADHD, Diann empowers founders to understand the default culture their ADHD brain creates, and shows them how to transform it into a purpose-driven environment that supports both their goals and the well-being of their team.

Sharing is Caring

Know a fellow ADHD founder who’s quietly fighting fires (or fighting themselves) every day? They might need this wake-up call, too, so be a pal and share the episode.

The ADHD Follow-Up Problem: Why You Forget Commitments and How to Fix It10 Feb 202600:23:21

If you find yourself constantly playing catch-up on commitments, the issue isn't a lack of discipline—it is how executive function in business impacts follow-through. Impulsive generosity and working memory limits often leave an ADHD small business owner overcommitted and exhausted.

This episode addresses why forgotten follow-ups happen and how to implement supportive business systems for ADHD entrepreneurs. By designing functional ADHD business operations around your natural capacity rather than forcing traditional productivity advice, you protect client relationships and create a sustainable ADHD business strategy tailored to your brain.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Operations and Working Memory Breakdown

04:15 - Why We Drop Commitments Running a Business with ADHD

09:30 - Essential Business Systems for ADHD Entrepreneurs

14:50 - Externalizing Follow-Up Systems for the ADHD CEO

19:25 - Practical Accountability Tools for the ADHD Small Business Owner

Six Reasons Why ADHD Brains Fumble on Follow-Throughs

  • Impulsive Generosity: ADHD brains crave the dopamine hit of being helpful. Before thinking through whether a promise can be fulfilled, we say “Yes!”—and mean it—without considering bandwidth or logistics.
  • Working Memory Deficits: As explained in Episode #299, ADHD reduces how many mental “sticky notes” you can hold. A neurotypical person might juggle seven or eight promises; with ADHD, it’s three or four. Most commitments simply never get “filed.”
  • Time Blindness: The moment feels manageable (“I’ll send it later today!”), but later is swallowed by whatever fires need putting out, leaving the commitment lost in time.
  • Context Fragmentation: Commitments happen everywhere—car, coffee shop, Zoom, networking lunches—but task management systems live in one place. ADHD brains struggle to bridge that gap.
  • Object Permanence Issues: Out of sight, out of mind. That voice memo recorded in the car vanishes from mental view once you sit at your desk.
  • The Shame Spiral: When forgotten commitments resurface—often at 2 AM—shame and avoidance kick in. Some people even ghost contacts out of embarrassment.

Fixing the Fumbles: The 3 Stage Follow-Through Filter

Stage 1: Before You Promise—Hit Pause

Stop defaulting to “Yes.” Try the 3-second rule: pause and ask yourself, “Can I do this in the next two minutes, or do I need a system?” If not, set a realistic timeline and use a pre-memorized script to acknowledge the request and buy yourself time (“Let me check my bandwidth and follow up by Friday”). This small delay protects you from impulsive overcommitment. Episode #297 is all about ADHD overcompensating, so check it out here.

Stage 2: During—Context-Specific Capture Systems

Don’t rely on a single capture tool. Customize your approach for the context:

  • Driving/Traveling: Use voice memos—with all details, not just “email Sarah.” Set a reminder to process them at your desk.
  • Video Calls: Use chat features in real time, or review AI-powered transcripts the same day.
  • In-Person Meetings: Use your phone’s notes app, or even a physical notebook (but only if you have a consolidation ritual).
  • Casual Encounters: Send yourself a text, voice memo, or use visual cues (move ring/hair tie).
  • Async Communications (Voxer, DMs): Flag messages or add commitments directly into your project management tool.

Stage 2.5: Consolidation Ritual

This is the missing link: a daily download. Set aside 10–15 minutes to process all those voice notes, texts, chat exports, and handwritten scribbles. Move tasks to your main management system. Out of sight means out of mind—make sure everything lands where you’ll see it.

Stage 3: After—Clarify and Reality-Check Commitments

Review: Is the task “in scope,” or are you picking up unneeded extras? Can you delegate? What’s the minimum viable follow-up? Set realistic deadlines and buffer time; use a timer to limit over-investment.

When (Not If) You Fumble: Damage Control

Nobody gets it perfect. When you drop the ball, acknowledge it fast—“I promised that resource and spaced. Here it is.” Skip the drama and excuses, don’t mention your ADHD, just deliver and move forward.

Follow-Through Builds Reputation—and Self-Trust

Your professional reputation and personal confidence aren’t built on intentions—they’re built on consistent, visible follow-through. The good news? With systems tailored for ADHD brains, you can turn scattered promises into completed commitments.

3 Hard Truths, 0 Fucks Given, 0 Apologies: Lessons Learned from Podcasting My Way to 300 Episodes03 Feb 202600:33:55

Mindset challenges in neurodivergent leadership rarely boil down to a simple lack of confidence. Imposter syndrome, persistent perfectionism, and deep-seated rejection sensitivity often stem from years of trying to force standard corporate frameworks onto a brain that naturally processes focus, risk, and motivation differently.

Real progress happens when you align your internal habits with your actual cognitive strengths. Integrating supportive ADHD business coaching with structured business systems gives an ADHD entrepreneur the foundation needed to handle decision fatigue, protect daily energy, and run a resilient company.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - Unapologetic ADHD Business Strategy for Sustainable Success

03:50 - Hard Truth 1: Radical Ownership as a Business Owner with ADHD

08:15 - Hard Truth 2: Ditching Neurotypical Standards when Running a Business

13:10 - Hard Truth 3: Boundary Setting for the ADHD CEO

17:45 - Building Unshakable Confidence as an ADHD Founder

If you’re ready for tangible insight (and a few uncomfortable truths), this is your episode.

Here are the 3 Hard Truths Every Entrepreneur with ADHD Needs to Hear:

Your self-doubt isn’t wisdom—it’s unaddressed trauma.

That overthinking, need for certainty, and analysis paralysis? It’s not you being “strategic”—it’s the residue of years spent feeling “not enough.” The real challenge is rebuilding self-trust so you can act boldly, even if you’re terrified of being wrong.

There’s no magic pill or “perfect” system.

Stop believing the next planner, project management tool, or “ADHD-friendly” hack will make entrepreneurship comfortable. Success means tolerating discomfort, not shopping for something to eliminate it.

ADHD is not your get-out-of-jail-free card.

Acceptance isn’t hiding behind your diagnosis—it's doing the tough, creative work to adapt and grow. “I have ADHD, so I need to figure out how to do this differently” is where real progress begins.

Zero F*cks Given:

To “fulfilling my potential” (an ever-moving target designed to keep you feeling not enough).

To being “too niched” (connection and impact mean more than pleasing the masses).

to ADHD diagnosis gatekeeping (if this content helps and you see yourself here, you belong).

What I WON’T apologize for:

  • Being unmasked and openly ADHD.
  • Holding ADHD coaches to real standards.
  • Being selective about coaching clients (it’s about the right fit—not the right paycheck).

The bottom line? Consistency doesn’t come from trying to “fix” yourself—it comes from radical self-acceptance, messy action, and getting honest about what really stops you.

If you’ve been waiting for the “right” moment, the perfect plan, or permission, the only way to get clarity is to take action.

"Enough Already": Breaking the ADHD Habit of Overcompensating in Your Business13 Jan 202600:20:22

Chronic exhaustion in business rarely comes from a lack of passion. For neurodivergent founders, burnout usually stems from sustained executive dysfunction, masking, and managing daily operations without structures aligned with natural energy patterns.

Restoring your bandwidth requires practical operational adjustments rather than quick-fix self-care trends. Integrating sustainable business systems with tailored ADHD business coaching gives an ADHD business owner room to delegate stress, protect daily capacity, and rebuild steady momentum without sacrificing revenue.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Strategy for Breaking Perfectionism Loops

04:15 - Why the Business Owner with ADHD Overcompensates

08:50 - Uncoupling Self-Worth from Workload as an ADHD Entrepreneur

13:30 - Establishing Healthy Boundaries when Running a Business with ADHD

18:10 - Sustainable Capacity Management for the ADHD CEO

What you’ll learn:

1. Why your “enoughness meter” is so damn hard to read.

Diann Wingert explains how, for entrepreneurs with ADHD, it’s not about laziness or lacking motivation—a lot of us just genuinely can’t judge when a task is finished.

2. The two main tracks that shaped your patterns:

Are you the “overachiever” always collecting gold stars, or the “compensator” trying to cover every base (and then some) out of fear of dropping the ball? Maybe both? You’ll discover your origin story—and why it matters.

3. The “Enough Already” Framework (it has five parts!).

Get real, actionable tools—like calibration questions and the Enough Algorithm—to help you finally stop overdoing and start celebrating what’s truly “good enough.”

4. How to tell the difference between flow state and fear state.

If you keep working because you’re energized, great! If you’re pushing through out of anxiety or fear, Diann Wingert shares how to spot the signs and what to do instead.

5. How to set micro-commitments and collect EVIDENCE that enough really is enough.

Try out the practical scripts and journaling prompts, and learn to recalibrate that internal workload meter (it CAN be done!)

Mic Drop Moment:

"Enough isn't about lowering your standards. It's not about doing mediocre work, striving for the bare minimum, or simply not caring enough to do better. It is about directing your excellence strategically instead of indiscriminately."

Try It With Me

Pick your area. Make a micro commitment. Collect your evidence. And then—here’s my ask—email me and tell me what happened when you stopped at enough. I want to hear where you struggled, what surprised you, and how it felt when it finally got easier.

We’ve run past the finish line for too long, measuring our value by exhaustion instead of impact. Now’s the time to recalibrate.

And if you want the full road map, join me on ADHD-ish—I’m here every week, sharing the hard-earned lessons I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way), and cheering on every step you take towards “enough.”

Ready to try? I’d love to hear your story. Email me at diann@diannwingertcoaching.com or DM me on LinkedIn

The ADHD Brain's Year-End Inventory (That Has Nothing to Do With Goals)30 Dec 202500:17:16

Rigid time blocking and strict daily agendas rarely work for neurodivergent entrepreneurs. Forcing your brain into a inflexible schedule creates immediate resistance, leading to frustration, shame, and complete task avoidance when plans inevitably derail.

Effective business operations depend on momentum rather than rigid timelines. Dynamic workflow frameworks combined with practical ADHD business strategy give an ADHD founder the structure needed to hit key milestones while accommodating energy shifts and sudden hyperfocus.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Strategy for Year-End Reflection Without Goals

04:15 - Auditing Energy and Capacity as an ADHD Entrepreneur

08:50 - Evaluating Wins as a Business Owner with ADHD

13:30 - Releasing Outgrown Commitments when Running a Business with ADHD

17:05 - Mindful Transition Strategies for the ADHD CEO

Instead of one more system to make you feel “less than,” I’m serving something totally different—a simple, honest inventory. Just three lists: Energy, Money, Time. Here’s the breakdown:

Energy Inventory

  • What gave you energy this year? What absolutely drained you—even if it was profitable or “successful”?
  • Which tasks, clients, or projects left you jazzed up… and which made you want to flee the building?
  • Notice the patterns. Pattern recognition tends to be a skill that ADHD brains excel at.

Money Inventory

  • What actually made you money, versus what you thought should make you money?
  • Which offers did people really buy? Where did revenue flow in from? What’s gathering dust (subscriptions, courses, tech) in your digital library?
  • If most of your money came from one thing, but you spent all your time on everything else—this is info, not failure.

Time Inventory

  • When did you do your best work? Was it in performance windows that don’t match “normal” business hours?
  • Was your magic at 10 pm in the car, Friday mornings, or after a walk or shower?
  • This is about gathering intelligence, not shaming yourself. Design your days around your actual brain, not someone else’s ideal.

Subtraction is Strategy

Every time I let go of what wasn’t working, the good stuff got even better. So maybe your “stop doing” list is more important than any “to-do” list. Eliminate the clients, offers, or systems that drain you, no matter how much they pay. Permission granted to not start that newsletter, podcast, or YouTube channel you’ve been “planning” for two years.

Final step:

Commit to ONE thing that’s already working and carry it forward. Whether it’s sticking to your creative window or leaning into your night owl energy, just one thing that fits your brain. For me, it’s this podcast.

No pressure, no massive goals, no breakthroughs required. 2026 is happening no matter what. Go in knowing what energizes, pays, and fits your unique brain—and that’s your built-in advantage.

Mic Drop Moment:

“We're great at building these complex offers that we think people want. We spend months perfecting the positioning, creating the fancy framework, building out the whole fricking thing. And then we're genuinely shocked when that simple little thing we threw together in an afternoon is the one that actually makes more money.”

Chasing Butterflies: Managing ADHD Idea Overwhelm as a Serial Entrepreneur, with Sarah Dowd23 Dec 202500:42:57

Constant creative inspiration can easily turn into operational chaos without a clear evaluation process. When every new idea feels urgent, an ADHD entrepreneur risks abandoning core projects mid-way to chase novel concepts that yield minimal revenue.

Systematic evaluation filters prevent costly detours without stifling your natural creativity. Simple vetting frameworks backed by clear ADHD business strategy help neurodivergent founders separate profitable opportunities from shiny objects, protecting focus and long-term momentum.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Strategy for Managing Creative Idea Overwhelm

05:10 - The Serial Entrepreneur Trait and Shiny Object Syndrome

11:25 - Triage Systems for the Creative ADHD Entrepreneur

16:40 - Filtering New Ideas as a Business Owner with ADHD

22:15 - Structuring ADHD Business Operations Around High-Impact Focus

27:30 - Preventing Idea Fatigue when Running a Business with ADHD

33:00 - Execution Frameworks for the Multi-Passionate ADHD Founder

37:45 - Scaling a Business with ADHD Without Daily Distractions

Who This Episode Is For

  • Founders juggling multiple business ideas or revenue streams
  • Creatives who struggle with follow-through despite abundant inspiration
  • Consultants and coaches who feel scattered across too many offers
  • Anyone who's been shamed for having "too many interests."
  • Serial entrepreneurs who want to build interconnected businesses without burning out

The Big Idea

Having an ADHD brain means you're wired for abundant creativity. The challenge isn't generating ideas—it's knowing which ones deserve your energy and how to move them from concept to completion without burning out or abandoning ship halfway through.

Sarah's approach: treat your ideas like they matter, but give them structure so they don't hijack your focus.

What to Listen For

The Reality of Being a Creative Polymath

For many ADHD entrepreneurs, being interested in multiple things isn't a distraction —it's how they’re built. Sarah explains why being a polymath is actually an advantage in today's business landscape, as long as you set boundaries around what gets your attention.

The "Catching Butterflies" System: Capture, Connect, Structure, Iterate, Express, Reflect

Sarah walks through her six-stage process for managing creative output. It starts with capturing every idea without judgment, then moves through connecting related concepts, building structure around the keepers, iterating on them, expressing them in the world, and reflecting on what worked. Simple in concept, powerful in practice.

Using AI as Your Digital Thought Partner

Both Sarah and I use AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude) to externalize our thinking. Instead of letting ideas swirl in our heads, we dump them into our AI assistants to help us organize, connect dots, and build project folders. It's like having a patient colleague who never gets tired of your tangents.

The 3D Jenga Model for Interconnected Projects

Rather than treating each business or project as a standalone tower that could topple, Sarah visualizes her work as a 3D Jenga structure. Each piece supports the others. When one idea doesn't work out, the whole thing doesn't collapse—the remaining pieces actually get stronger.

Energy Management Over Time Management

Reflection isn't self-indulgence—it's how you build a feedback loop that keeps you moving forward. Regular check-ins about how you feel, what your vision is, and whether your projects still serve that vision help you stay aligned instead of spinning your wheels.

Why This Matters

If you've ever been told you're "too much," or felt guilty about having too many interests, this episode offers permission to work with your brain, instead of trying to conform to any norms. You'll walk away with practical strategies for managing creative chaos and the confidence that being a polymath entrepreneur isn't a problem to fix—it's a creative operating system that needs the right infrastructure.

Why Entrepreneurial ADHD Traits Don’t Always Mean You Should Start a Business16 Dec 202500:26:05

Running a business is often framed as the ultimate path to freedom, yet entrepreneurship can present unique challenges for a business owner with ADHD. When traditional business systems clash with executive function demands, managing daily operations can feel overwhelming without alignment.

This episode explores whether full-time business ownership aligns with your strengths and reveals alternative ways to leverage your talents. Discover how evaluating your ADHD business strategy and leadership style helps every ADHD entrepreneur create sustainable success on their own terms.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Coaching on the Entrepreneurship Myth

04:30 - Hidden Realities of Running a Business with ADHD

09:40 - Evaluating Capacity for the ADHD Small Business Owner

15:15 - Alternative Career Paths for the ADHD Entrepreneur

20:10 - Aligning Personal Strengths Over Social Expectations

Three key takeaways:

Entrepreneurial traits ≠ Entrepreneurial career:

You can be creative, visionary, and disruptive without having to start your own business. Don’t fall for the myth that employment is “settling.”

Intrapreneurship unlocks impact & stability:

Express your entrepreneurial strengths inside an organization. Lead without authority, innovate processes, and treat your role like you own it—while benefiting from structure, resources, and a steady paycheck.

Signs that traditional employment isn’t right for you:

Not everyone is meant to shine as an intrapreneur. If every manager is a nightmare, structure feels suffocating, or your best ideas die in committee, maybe going solo is your move. But it’s all about matching your brain and real life with the right path—not shame, not hustle-culture FOMO.

Workplace roles & cultures where ADHD-ish traits thrive:

Look for product development, business strategy, internal consulting, startups, project-based work, or innovation labs. Go where experimenters are rewarded, hierarchies are flatter, and outcomes matter more than bureaucracy.

Mic Drop Moment:

“Infrastructure isn't the enemy of innovation. Structure, when it's the right structure, is what lets your brain do what it does best without getting derailed by all the shit you hate doing."

Action Step:

Take 10 mins for honest self-reflection. Where do you really do your best work? What structure supports you? Then, make the choice that serves your life—not LinkedIn optics or anyone else’s expectations.

Discover how an ADHD-informed business strategy helps you re-evaluate your foundation, navigate burnout, and redefine success on your terms. If you are a business owner with ADHD seeking sustainable ADHD business coaching and authentic growth without sacrificing well-being, this conversation offers clarity and an actionable path forward.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - Building A Business With ADHD Traits

04:35 - Scaling Burnout Instead Of Business Growth

09:10 - Setting Boundaries And Redefining Collaboration

13:45 - Redefining Success Around Family And Values

23:05 - Creating A Sustainable ADHD Business

27:40 - Finding Your Niche Without Overthinking

32:15 - Taking Action Through Uncertainty And Loss

Here are 3 key takeaways from this conversation:

Scaling “as-is” can scale your problems, not just your profits: Before trying to grow, pause to check if your foundation—relationships, workload, boundaries—truly supports the life you want.

  • Give yourself permission to redefine success: It’s not all-or-nothing. You can reshape business relationships and paths to fit changing needs, values, and energy levels.
  • Clarity fuels action: The sooner you move from overthinking to taking action (even messy, uncertain steps), the faster you learn, adapt, and build the business—and life—that truly work for you.

The Big Questions Every Business Owner Needs to Ask, with Jessica Lackey25 Nov 202500:40:43

Many entrepreneurs struggle with online tactics and shiny promises that lead to overwhelm rather than sustainable results. In this episode of ADHD-ish, host Diann Wingert and business strategist Jessica Lackey explore how an ADHD small business owner can re-evaluate core strategy and align business operations with authentic goals.

Discover how an ADHD-informed business strategy helps you create a solid foundation instead of gambling on short-term trends. If you are a business owner with ADHD looking for grounded ADHD business coaching to align your offer, energy, and values, this conversation delivers essential insights for sustainable growth.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - Leaving The Entrepreneurial Casino

05:00 - Strategy Over Tactics For Sustainable Business

10:00 - The Five Big Business Questions

15:00 - ADHD And Entrepreneurial Overstimulation

20:00 - Defining Enoughness And Business Success

25:00 - Embracing Your Business Stage And Pace

30:00 - Intentional Constraints And Creative Autonomy

35:00 - Decision-Making Frameworks For Neurodivergent Entrepreneurs

Top Takeaways from this Episode:

Start with Strategy, Not Tactics:

The endless cycle of purchasing the latest digital course or marketing hack often leads to overwhelm, wasted resources, and lost confidence. Sustainable businesses are built on strategy and thoughtful decision-making, not reactive, one-size-fits-all tactics.

Ask Yourself the Big Questions:

Before chasing the next big thing, get clarity on key fundamentals:

  • What type of business do you really want to run?
  • What stage are you in?
  • What is the right pace and amount for your life and brain?
  • What level of responsibility and commitment matches your reality?
  • What does “enough” look like for you? These questions ground your business in reality instead of fantasy.

Don’t Compare Your Solo Journey to the Big Players:

The polished marketers often have large teams and structures flattening out the chaos. If you’re a team of one (especially with an ADHD-ish brain), your output and path will—and should—look different.

There’s power in slowing down, cutting through the noise, and building a business that fits you—not a casino of empty promises.

ADHD is Not Just In Your Head: Exploring Embodied Neuroscience with Miguel Toribio-Mateas11 Nov 202500:43:04

If you have spent years trying to 'hack' your dopamine with planners and external fixes, you are missing a vital piece of the puzzle. ADHD is far more than a brain-based disorder; it is a full-body experience connected to your nervous system, gut health, and daily rhythms.

Diann Wingert sits down with clinical neuroscientist Dr. Miguel Toribio-Mateas to explore embodied neuroscience. Discover how shifting from external hacks to internal body awareness helps ADHD business owners build self-trust, reduce burnout, and develop a sustainable ADHD business strategy rooted in true neurodivergent alignment.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Strategy: Embodied Neuroscience Principles

04:15 - Beyond Dopamine Hacks in ADHD Leadership

09:30 - Somatic Regulation for High Performing Entrepreneurs

15:20 - Rebuilding Self Trust to Prevent Burnout

21:45 - Overcoming Hyperfocus Fatigue and Sensory Overload

27:10 - Aligning Physical Health with Strategic Execution

33:00 - Integrating Mind Body Alignment in Strategy

38:40 - Sustainable Business Practices for Neurodivergent Founders

Episode Highlights:

  • It’s Not Just Dopamine: Sure, dopamine’s part of the story. But Dr Miguel reminds us it’s just one instrument in a much bigger orchestra of brain and body chemistry. ADHD isn’t just a “brain disorder”—it’s an embodied experience, affected by everything from our gut health to our hormones and daily rhythms.
  • Stop Trying to “Hack” Yourself: Instead of endless hacks, planners, and productivity tools, what if we tuned into our internal signals? Think: listening to hunger cues, taking movement breaks, honoring our need for rest—a holistic approach that begins on the inside.
  • Self-Trust Is Everything: If you’ve ever struggled to trust your thoughts, feelings, or impulses, you’re not alone. The conversation offered hope: as we learn to regulate (and accept!) our unique internal ecosystem, intuition and awareness can flourish.
  • Bringing it Back Home: Instead of survival mode, Dr. Miguel encourages us to “come back home” to ourselves—filling our cups with connection, nourishment, movement, and acceptance, rather than burning out on outside fixes.
  • ADHD as an Advantage: Messy, complex, and beautifully curious—these traits can be assets in business and life. Don’t let anyone oversimplify you!

Meet Our Guest

Dr Miguel Toribio-Mateas is a clinical neuroscientist, applied microbiologist, and nutritionist whose work bridges brain, body, and lived experience. For over 2 decades, he has explored how the gut, nervous system, and microbiome shape mood, focus, and emotional balance.

Dr. Miguel is an Honorary Research Fellow at Cardiff University’s School of Psychology and lectures in nutrition at the University of West London. His forthcoming book, “ADHD Body and Mind” (Jessica Kingsley Publishers) will be published in 2026.

Website - LinkedIn - Instagram - Substack - Thrive With ADHD Course

Make it Practical:

Practice Tuning Into Your Body: Notice and respond to basic bodily needs (hunger, thirst, bio breaks, rest, or movement) instead of ignoring or suppressing them during hyperfocus or stress.

Shift from External Fixes to Internal Awareness: Take time to notice what your body and emotions are asking for and explore activities that help you feel grounded and present (e.g., walks in nature, nourishment, movement, or connection).

Work on Rebuilding Self-Trust: Reflect on ways to start trusting your instincts, signals, emotions, and intuition around food, rest, motivation, and needs—especially if you have a history of doubting yourself.

Let Go of Perfectionism and Pathologizing: Recognize that ADHD is messy, complex, and unique to each person. Practice self-compassion and radical self-acceptance, instead of striving to“fix” yourself.

Integrate, Don’t Eliminate: You don’t have to choose between mainstream (medication, structure) and holistic (nutrition, mindfulness, nature) approaches. Blend what serves you best.

If you are a business owner with ADHD seeking targeted ADHD business coaching to maintain composure under pressure, this conversation provides practical tools to build sustainable momentum.

I’m introducing the SPACE Framework, a practical, easy-to-remember tool designed for ADHD brains to manage those high-intensity situations. (If you love frameworks and acronyms, you’re in for a treat— your activated brain will actually remember it.

Here’s a sneak peek at what you’ll learn:

Spot Your Patterns: Start by noticing your personal triggers—client feedback, high-stakes moments, unclear expectations, time pressure, or those awkward money conversations. I’m sharing physical, emotional, and environmental early warning signs, so you can spot trouble before it hits.

Pause the Escalation: Meet the powerful 90-second rule. Emotional chemicals peak and recede in just 90 seconds—if you don’t feed them. I share micro-pause techniques you can use in the moment (think hydration breaks, “Let me think for a second,” or strategic note-taking) to ride out the waves.

Act in the Moment: When you’re already activated, it’s about damage control, not perfection. Lower your voice, slow your speech, stick to the facts— I’ve got you with scripts and tips for how to stay in control when you feel anything but.

Clear the Air: Messed up? (We all do!) Learn how to take professional accountability—without over-apologizing or spiraling in shame. Clear, direct language for addressing emotional incidents and a real-world repair timeline are included.

Evolve Your System: Set up prevention tools, emotional “first aid,” and recovery supports so you’re not always in crisis mode. From environmental tweaks (noise-cancelling headphones, standing desks) to business systems that support your brain, this episode covers it all.

Grab Your Free Resource!

To make this episode even more actionable, I created a downloadable PDF that breaks down the SPACE Framework with easy-to-use scripts and examples. Get your copy here

Try ONE thing from the episode this week—maybe it’s noticing your triggers, preparing a “pause phrase,” or just putting a big water bottle on your desk before calls. Small steps, big changes.

About the Host

Diann Wingert is a former psychotherapist and serial entrepreneur turned business coach, specializing in helping entrepreneurs with ADHD and other “not-so-neurotypical” brains thrive.

Drawing from both her clinical expertise and personal experience, Diann delivers actionable advice, real-world strategies, and a refreshingly honest perspective on building a business, balancing priorities, and protecting your most precious resources: your time and your creative energy.

Defining "ADHD Business Coach"

A major misconception is that being a certified ADHD coach with a coaching business is enough to qualify as an ADHD business coach.

The truth? The skills needed for managing ADHD and those needed to build sustainable business systems for an ADHD brain are worlds apart.

ADHD coaching typically zeroes in on organization, productivity, time management, and emotional regulation.

ADHD business coaching requires a deep understanding of how neurodivergent thinking plays out in the areas of business strategy, marketing, operations, and client delivery.

In other words, it’s about knowing not just that typical strategies fail for ADHD entrepreneurs, but why—and being able to offer effective alternatives.

Here’s my checklist for vetting an ADHD business coach—myself included:

  • How do they run their business? Is it ADHD-friendly and sustainable, or are they “winging it” and modeling burnout?
  • Can they answer nuanced questions about ADHD and business beyond the basics? How does rejection sensitivity impact marketing? Why do traditional sales funnels often fail?
  • How do they talk about ADHD? Are they focused on deficits to “fix” or differences to leverage?
  • Does their content feel ADHD-aligned? Or does it sound like a typical business guru tossing in some neurodivergent SEO keywords?
  • Take a look at their boundaries. Strong boundaries signal true expertise and self-care—not codependency with a price tag.

My coach approach is simple and built on three principles:

Uncomplicate Your Business: ADHD brains get swamped by unnecessary complexity. Instead of piling on endless marketing channels or busywork, focus on what actually moves the needle. Eliminate the rest to avoid burnout.

Uncover Your Brilliance: ADHD entrepreneurs often have wildly innovative ideas, but years of hearing they should do things a certain way dims that spark. The real magic comes from aligning offers with your strengths and values, making sales a natural conversation rather than a high-pressure hustle.

Turn ADHD into an Asset: Instead of treating ADHD as something to manage, the right coach helps you turn traits like pattern recognition, hyperfocus, and flexibility into your business’s superpowers.

Do You Even Need an ADHD Business Coach?

Here’s a refreshing truth: not everyone needs specialized ADHD business coaching, especially if you’re still learning foundational business skills or are in the middle of a personal or professional crisis.

There’s a time and place—otherwise, you might benefit more from a mentor, a course, or ADHD life coaching. I think of it as the Goldilocks effect - not too much, not too little, but just right.

The ADHD business coaching field is growing, so you have more options than ever, but don’t let the noise drown out your intuition. Look for integrity, expertise, and a coach who practices what they preach.

If you want to explore coaching with me, I offer no-pressure consultations to see if we are a fit and if the timing is right. Click here to find out more.

Developing Confidence as a Business Owner: a Client Success Story with CherylAnn Crego30 Sep 202500:33:55

Balancing multiple enterprises often leads neurodivergent entrepreneurs to doubt their capacity and leadership abilities. In this episode of ADHD-ish, host Diann Wingert sits down with client CherylAnn Crego to highlight how an ADHD small business owner can cultivate genuine confidence while running multi-passionate ventures.

Discover how embracing small windows of time, reframing a delayed diagnosis, and practicing targeted mindset tools help establish sustainable momentum. If you are a business owner with ADHD seeking empowering ADHD business coaching to step into leadership with clarity and ease, this client success story provides actionable inspiration.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

01:20 - Developing Confidence as a Business Owner

07:45 - Overcoming Imposter Complex for ADHD Entrepreneurs

15:30 - Tailoring Business Systems for ADHD Success

22:15 - Self-Trust and Decision-Making in Business

28:50 - Sustainable Growth for the ADHD Founder

Here are three key lessons from CherylAnn’s story for anyone managing multiple responsibilities while living with neurodivergence:

Embrace the “Nooks and Crannies” of Time:

You don’t always need a full day or a perfect schedule to make progress. CherylAnn leverages unexpected gaps in her day to move projects forward—proving that momentum can be built in the margins.

Growth Can Mean Letting Go:

Sometimes leadership requires making tough calls, like sunsetting a beloved business. CherylAnn shared how being honest about capacity and leading family and team members through disappointment is true leadership—and it’s okay to grieve business decisions. She also shares some vulnerable moments while talking about letting go of ego in service to growth.

Confidence Can Be Cultivated (at Any Stage):

Even as an experienced therapist, CherylAnn found new confidence by being open to coaching, embracing affirmations, and reframing challenges as opportunities to grow.

A Different “Take” on a Delayed ADHD Diagnosis

Cheryl Ann reflects on her midlife ADHD diagnosis and discusses how learning to build life strategies before even knowing she had ADHD turned out to be a hidden blessing.

For me, some of the most satisfying things about sharing the experience and outcomes from our work are how CherylAnn came to see herself in a new way, how she embraced the role of being “the boss,” and why finding the right support (and having a little fun) is essential when choosing the right coach, especially for someone who is accustomed to figuring things out on their own.

Client Bio

CherylAnn Crego is the co-founder of Chef Kent Getzen, a consulting business she started with her husband, whom she lovingly refers to as “the talent.” Together, they travel across the country teaching schools how to cook from scratch, source ingredients locally, and develop essential cooking skills.

Like many individuals with ADHD, CherylAnn is multi-passionate and multi-talented. In addition to being the CEO (and business brain) of the consulting business, CherylAnn is also a licensed psychotherapist in private practice, is in the midst of writing her first book, and has an extensive background in the performing arts.

Find Your Flow: Three Focus Day Models for ADHD Brains23 Sep 202500:31:39

Every time you switch between calls, emails, and content creation, your brain loses momentum to context switching. For an ADHD entrepreneur or small business owner with ADHD, rigid time management systems often lead to task paralysis, overwhelm, and multitasking burnout. Protecting your energy requires a system built for neurodivergent focus.

In this episode, Diann Wingert shares three tailored "Focus Day" task-batching models to help you find your flow. Discover practical strategies to protect your boundaries, step into proactive ADHD leadership, and implement an ADHD business strategy that honors your natural energy patterns and stops daily interruptions.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & TIMESTAMPS:

00:00 - ADHD Business Strategy: Finding Your Flow State

05:30 - The Traditional Theme Day Model for Focus

12:15 - The Energy-Driven Focus Model for ADHD

19:40 - The Sprint and Rest Method for Entrepreneurs

25:00 - Implementing Focus Day Models in Your Business

About the Host

Diann Wingert is a former psychotherapist and serial entrepreneur turned business coach, specializing in helping entrepreneurs with ADHD and other “not-so-neurotypical” brains thrive.

Drawing from both her clinical expertise and personal experience, Diann delivers actionable advice, real-world strategies, and a refreshingly honest perspective on building a business, balancing priorities, and protecting your most precious resources: your time and your creative energy.

Here’s your quick guide to Focus Days, ADHD-style:

The Single Focus Scheduling Method

Think of this as giving every day its own “job”—Mondays are CEO days (big picture, strategy only!), Tuesdays and Thursdays are for clients, Wednesdays for content creation, and Fridays for building connections.

The magic? You get to deeply immerse in one type of work at a time—no more multitasking burnout.

The Essential Three Model: Create, Connect, Consume

Perfect if you don’t want to lock yourself into a five-day structure. Allocate days based on energy: Create (any kind of output work), Connect (people-focused work like client calls), and Consume (input tasks like learning or admin).

You can spread these across your week however you like—and it totally honors both structure and spontaneity.

The Split-Screen Approach

Not all of us can devote a full day to a single focus. With the Split Screen model, you match tasks with your daily energy: deep work when your brain’s sharpest, creative or relational work when it feels right, and breaks when you need them. It’s about flowing with your energy patterns, not fighting them.

Which one to try?

  • Are your days packed with interruptions? Go for the Essential Three.
  • Thrive with structure? Try Single Focus Scheduling.
  • Need max flexibility or have health/family stuff? Split Screen’s your friend.

Protect your boundaries (and sanity):

Most “emergencies” can actually wait. Create clear expectations and communicate your availability so you’re not always on call—this protects your energy, time, and creative spark.

Embrace experimentation over perfection:

Whether you need more structure or more flexibility, give yourself permission to tweak any system. Growth comes from iteration, not rigid adherence. Try one approach for a few weeks, then adjust as needed.

Not-so-fun fact:

Research shows it can take UP TO 25 MINUTES to fully recover your focus after switching tasks. And with ADHD? Yep, it can take even longer. It’s like trying to cook five different cuisines at once—the results are always a little…messy.

Mentioned in this episode:

Changes Diann made based on her quarterly review during a CEO Day:

  • Zoom Pro to Google Meet_savings: $160
  • Loom to Konvey_savings: $71
  • Calendly to TidyCal: $91
