He is also a regular at Fringe Festivals, including performing at the Edinburgh Fringe every year since 2016, and Hastings Comedy Festival since 2018. I have seen Merryck live on stage for Angel Comedy at The Bill Murray pub in Islington, London in 2023, and a guest on The Late Show at The Hastings Comedy Festival in 2024. He has written for many major comedians that are feature in my blog including Morecambe and Wise, The Two Ronnies, Tommy Cooper, Les Dawson, Bob Monkhouse, Frankie Howerd, Bruce Forsyth, Kenny Everett, Richard Pryor and Spike Milligan. I have watched many of his shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and he is a master at constructing and delivering a joke. Since 1972, he has been a regular panellist on BBC Radio 4’s I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue and is frequently on TV talking about comedy on various shows including fronting Comedy Legends on Sky Arts. I was extremely saddened to hear of Cryer's passing in January 2022 aged 86 years old and It was an honour and a pleasure talking to the great comedian. In this episode, I talk to the comedy legend AL MURRAY about his comedy career. Murray is an English comedian, actor, writer, and musician. Murray's principal character is The Pub Landlord who puts Great Britain first in his values and will not settle for anything less. The joke is always on him and he has appeared as the character for over twenty years. I think The Pub Landlord is one of the greatest creations in modern comedy and I have laughed so much at his mighty comic performances over the years. Brilliant at audience interaction, I have seen him in many solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe (including The Only Way is Epic in 2012, One Man, One Guvnor in 2014 and Landlord of Hope and Glory in 2019). Most recently in 2021 Murray compared the online weekly quiz Al Murray’s Lockdown Lock-in for Always Be Comedy Online. A regular performer at the Edinburgh Fringe, I have seen Regan’s solo shows Organ Freeman in 2018 (which detailed his experience as a live-organ donor) and Notion’s Eleven in 2019. In 2013, he devised and began an award-winning podcast: An Irishman Abroad which is a series of interviews with people of Irish descent and Irish people talking about their lives. Richardson's first solo show, Hometown Hero, won Best New Show at the 2012 Leicester Comedy Festival and went on tour in 2013 / 2014. In 1975, he was founder of the new-wave band The Fabulous Poodles. From the early 80s he has made numerous appearances on the London comedy circuit. Golden also fronts the Soul and R & B group, Ronnie and The Rex and was a long-time musical collaborator with comedy legend, Barry Cryer. I have seen Golden perform with Barry Cryer every year from 2005 to 2018 at the Edinburgh Fringe. Combined with Golden’s humorous songs and Cryer’s priceless jokes, the shows were always a highlight at the festival. In this episode, I talk to the fantastic comedian, HUW THOMAS. I have spent many a happy comedy night from 1992 to 1997, watching legendary resident compere Thomas at the Downstairs at The Kings Head Comedy Club in Crouch End, London. The club was co-founded in 1981 by Peter Grahame and Thomas, who was forced to retire in 2002, after twenty years, due to health problems. During his glorious time at the club, he would perform his off-the-wall comedy routines (including infamous animal impressions) to delighted audiences.
