Warrior Philosophy: A path for a more full and healthy life07 Oct 202400:27:07

In this 84th episode I riff on what it means to be a "warrior." Indeed, you have a warrior inside of you whether you express yourself this way or not.

Taking on the path of a warrior has much less to do with the typical understanding of "warrior" as a violent war-like sociopath, and much more to do with an individual who accepts and understands adversity. A warrior is prepared and willing to do those things which may be contrary to a more comfortable life. But in doing so, the warrior overcomes obstacles in their life, and helps those around him or her to be the best that they can be.

Just how might a warrior mindset impact your life? Might there be goals that have been waiting for you to accomplish? Might you need to change your diet or lifestyle so that you can finally tackle that healthcare situation you find yourself in? Might someone in your life need help, or an advocate for their own journey?

The warrior spirit is there in honor for these circumstances, and more...

The Importance of Sleep30 Sep 202400:47:05

In this 83rd episode I discuss concepts relating to sleep. We will cover common symptoms of sleep deprivation, the 5 stages of sleep, some tips on how to improve sleep quality, and will riff a bit on some things people may be doing for sleep which may or may not be in their best interest.

We will consider how long caffeine tends to stay in the body, how alcohol and cannabis may impact sleep, and how blue light exposure can be a poor sleeper's worst enemy.

Just Let It Go29 Jul 202400:18:00

In this 74th episode, as I continue to recover from a bout of Covid-19, I ponder some concepts around it is easy to take on the negativity of those around us. As an empathic person, I find this to be a common challenge for me which absolutely challenges my health.

I offer a musical meditation piece called "We are truth" which is something that speaks to me when I feel the need to remember to focus on a more centering perspective, and to let go the things which are working against me.

Let go of those things which are working to bring you down. Most of the time, they are not really your burden to bear...

In times of sickness...22 Jul 202400:21:13

In this 73rd episode I come to you in recovery from sickness. It started with my daughter, then to my wife, and then on to me. Like it does when living in close quarters.

Today I offer a short update on my health status, a little background on what my family has been experiencing (apparently COVID-19 as of positive tests this morning), a little reminder that it is okay to sit still sometimes and do nothing, and some nutraceutical/supplement advice for immune support as both preventative or therapeutic actions if sick with a virus.

We will discuss Vitamin D, Glutathione, Vitamin C, and other anti-viral support.

Here is a link to a Full Script panel of herbs I created for anyone looking to either boost immune function as a preventative measure, or to really boost immune function when sick with a virus.

Just click the link below, log in to Full Script, and it should bring you right to the list!

"Who you calling fat?!?" says the liver...15 Jul 202400:30:10

In this 72nd episode I discuss the aptly-named condition "fatty liver," otherwise known as Steatosis.

Just like any other tissue of the body, the liver can begin to accumulate fatty deposits. This can hinder the function of the liver and even lead to destruction and more significant disease.

In this episode we will cover just what a fatty liver condition involves, how people get there, why it is not something you want, and how to reverse it.

Much Ado About Mold08 Jul 202400:37:06

In this 71st episode I discuss several concepts around mold exposure. For sure mold is a hot topic in many circles. But how do you know if it is really a significant concern for you?

We will discuss the benefits and detriments different types of testing for blood and urine, and how a home / office test, can be an important step.

We also discuss some of the more common symptoms of mold exposure, and just how something like this can be a significant "driver" for other medical conditions like autoimmunity.

Unconditional Non-Transactional Love: A Practice for Better Health!01 Jul 202400:31:01

In this 70th episode I riff on some concepts around love. The inspiration for this episode came from a recent discussion prompt I was given at a "philosophy night" gathering.

How do we work towards keeping ourselves positive in a world that is desperately trying to pull us into a more negative emotional state? Love. Not love that is based upon how much we are getting from someone else. Not love that has conditions. Love that is non-transactional... Just like what our little dog friends have for us. And yes, I do cite my little dog friend Cheddar. How could I not talk about Cheddar when discussing the more evolved aspects of love? He is a true master after all.

Join me as I step outside the world of blood chemistry and work on those deeper layers of wellness that something as fundamental as love can provide.

The Lab Mouse Dilemma 25 Jun 202400:26:06

In this 69th episode we explore some important concepts about the humble laboratory mouse. These little critters come hand in hand with scientific testing and in large part are used to help establish safety profiles for new pharmaceutical drugs. But are they such a good option after all?

In this episode we will discuss concepts about mouse genetics, telomere length, mouse cancer, drug safety, why some medications might not be so safe, and more!

I will also share a link to the 2002 paper published in the scientific journal Experimental Gerontology that this information comes from, as well as a short podcast link to the PhD, Dr. Bret Weinstein who published it. And lastly, I offer one short animated clip on a slightly different take on the little lab mouse.

The Energetics of Immune Function - Wei Qi Explained17 Jun 202400:26:41

In this 68th episode I delve back into ancient concepts around immune system function. Wei Qi is our defensive Qi and can be considered the energetic analog to our immune system.

It is always important to remember that immune function is not always just about white blood cells... Looking at it in a more energetic way, and addressing immune function through acupuncture and herbal formulas can be a powerful tool to maintain optimal wellness, and can allow a person to avoid the alternatives of strong prescription medications.

Join me as I take a step away from the typical Functional Medicine focus and get back into my roots of Traditional Chinese medicine!

Heavy Metals... Testing, Concepts, and Controversy10 Jun 202400:42:27

In this 67th episode I do not discuss one of my favorite heavy metal bands, Black Sabbath, but rather I discuss various concepts around Heavy Metal accumulation in the body and how they are tested. Indeed, there are many opinions about this topic and much of what I say here in this episode are fighting words to say the least.

It is a sad but true thing in the Alternative Medicine field that we tend to have our "specialists" who see what they want to see in just about every person. The Heavy Metal folks are certainly out there and want to blame just about everything under the sun on Heavy Metal accumulation. And guess what? They can find it in just about every person who walks in their door. And boy do they have protocols to sell the clear these things from your system.

Well like most things in life, it is much more complicated than that. Knowing what you are working with is essential which means getting the appropriate testing is where you need to start.

In this episode we will discuss some common heavy metal burdens, how they may present symptomatically, and several different types of testing which may or may not be appropriate. I also finish up with a few tips on what to do if you do have these concerns.

An Interview with an Artist - Can artistic expression improve our wellness outlook?03 Jun 202400:35:35

In this 66th episode I break free from my typical monolog and interview a very special guest... My wife Debbie. Debbie is an artist and offers some very interesting insights into how developing and practicing creative arts can help with wellness.

In keeping with my interest of exploring 'outside the box thinking' regarding health and wellness, I could think of no better person to interview than Debbie. Her use of color and design inspires smiles from everyone who sees her work.

My Cardiology Story: Part 228 May 202400:44:46

In this 65th episode I share the 12-month follow up on my cardiovascular case study I have been running on myself. A year ago I found, because I proactively looked, some plaque in one of my coronary arteries. I made some significant changes to diet, lifestyle, and supplement strategies, and look forward to sharing with you all just how it turned out!

Cardiovascular health is one area of medicine that needs a serious overhaul. Limiting yourself to the basic lipid (cholesterol) model of heart disease will tend to turn you into one of the statics. Yep... roughly 50% of the people who have a heart attack have high cholesterol, and the other 50% normal or even low cholesterol! So is it really the cholesterol that is making the difference? Or is there something else?

Immune Cross-Reaction: How cases of "mistaken identity" can sabotage your efforts of overcoming disease23 Sep 202400:44:28

In this 82nd episode I explain concepts around Immune Cross-Reaction.

Ever wonder why some of the efforts you have been putting in just don't seem to be working? I can't tall you how many times have I heard, "I tried a gluten free diet and didn't feel better." It could be that there are other foods in your diet that are confusing the immune system.

But this "you got the wrong guy" concept does not end with confusion between foods... There are cross-reactions between foods and your own tissues/organs! There are reactions against chemicals and your own self tissues. And there are reactions against microorganisms and your own tissues.

If you have autoimmunity already diagnosed, or think you may have something like that going on, this information is massively important. It could be the one concept holding you back from optimizing your health.

The many benefits of Hot Springs - A personal experience21 May 202400:26:44

In this 64th episode I discuss a recent trip I took to a local Southern California hot spring resort. I expand on some of the benefits and concerns regarding soaking in natural spring waters.

I end with a story of how a hot spring helped protect me from a massive gluten exposure!

Artificial Food Coloring: A purple sucker situation13 May 202400:35:36

In this 63rd episode we discuss artificial food coloring. The seemingly innocent little candy in the bowl of the restaurant register may not be so innocent after all.

We will discuss how these dyes can increase food sensitivity reactions, autoimmunity, and neuroinflammation. And we discuss two studies which look at the impacts of these chemicals on the autistic populations, the ADHD populations, nystagmus (shaking of the eyes), and the "behavior of most kids."

The benefits of the Amanita muscaria mushroom - Even the reindeer agree06 May 202400:25:32

In this 62nd episode we discuss the benefits of a particular medicinal mushroom native to the temperate & sub-artic forests of Northern Europe. The Amanita muscaria mushroom is one you know well without even knowing it. With it's bright red cap and white spots, the Amanita presents itself in all its glory and has secured itself as the quintessential mushroom seen in cartoons, ads, art, etc. It is the mushroom we all think about when we think about a mushroom.

It has been used throughout the centuries for many things but is most commonly used for it's calming impact. The Amanita is helpful for stress, anxiety, & sleep quality, without the addictive qualities of medications for the same purpose.

Listen in as I discuss some of the details surrounding this magnificent mushroom, and even some fun lore about how Santa Clause may be involved.

The Gluten - Anxiety Connection30 Apr 202400:36:13

In this 61st episode we explore just how something like gluten, a protein found in grains, can be a significant driving force in the development and expression of anxiety, depression, and really any other mental/emotional concern.

We will discuss the role of the vagus nerve, the blood brain barrier, the gut barrier, antibody cross-reaction, GAD enzymes, deep cerebellar nuclei, purkinjie cells, and more! Yep nerdy stuff here, but fascinating and empowering once you see the connections.

Don't let something like anxiety or depression go untreated. Often times it is something you are doing every day that drives the whole business.

Don't forget to make some time for yourself!24 Apr 202400:09:47

In this 60th episode I just want to offer a short public service announcement to remember to take some time just for yourself. I have found myself beyond busy the past few weeks and missed my Monday podcast launch for the first time. Reality has struck and alas... This week and possibly next will be a bit tight for preparing, recording, and publishing episodes. And so as I dig myself out of my mountain of work, I, like you, need to take a breath and rest.

Listen in on this short offering, and take my words to heart. We are all the same when it comes to basic needs, and quiet time connecting to the outside world is essential for keeping ourselves vital, productive, and awesome!

The Physiological "Wind-Up" for fainting - A Personal Story15 Apr 202400:30:01

In this 59th episode, I discuss several concepts that can set up a person to faint. In this discussion we consider how sleep, migraine, exercise, sweat loss, and pain can all work together to promote a fainting episode.

I get personal and share about a recent fainting episode that I experienced. It was the first and only time that it has occurred for me (thankfully), and it was quite humbling. This podcast episode was created to help sort out just how something like that could happen to someone like me.

Have a listen and enjoy the information and personal story. If it can happen to someone like me, it can happen to anyone!

Four Ways Not to Lose Your Stress Resiliency & Suffer Anxiety09 Apr 202400:39:45

In this 58th episode I revisit the topic of anxiety. People suffering from anxiety tend to have one more more underlying physiological mechanisms driving the condition. Or rather, mechanisms that have eroded their "stress resiliency" to a levels where anxiety or even full blown panic attack can more easily manifest.

We discuss the difference between the more mainstream philosophies as compared to a Functional Approach to care. And in doing so we discuss aspects of 4 different, mechanisms in the blood chemistry that can predispose a person to anxiety as well as other psycho-neurological conditions like depression, brain fog, and more.

Lastly we discuss some ways to help ease anxiety if you should find yourself suffering. The most potent intervention however is prevention. And that is what this podcast episode is all about!

BPA Plastic... The sneaky poison that lurks01 Apr 202400:41:23

In this 57th episode we discuss concepts around plastics in our environment and just how they can disrupt out physiology. The focus of this topic will be on Bisphenol A (BPA) which is found in an alarmingly high amount of food and beverage containers, medical equipment, credit card receipts, etc.

There is no lack of literature here detailing how toxic this compound, and similarly related compounds are to our physiology.

Do not be fooled by "BPA Free labeling" which is just a sly marketing ploy.

Taking a Functional Approach to your health and wellness means looking at the things which we do every day. Finding common sources of plastics in our daily life, and taking steps to moderate or eliminate these exposures, is a fantastic step in regaining wellness.

LSD for migraines? Well... Yes, Kinda!25 Mar 202400:44:58

In this 56th episode I discuss some literature regarding the use of classical psychedelic compounds like LSD, Psilocybin, and DMT for all manners of chronic pain conditions. Indeed, conditions like migraine, chronic pain of all kinds, and neurological inflammation/brain injury can all improve by exposure to these compounds.

Having said that... These compounds are all still controlled substances and come with some hefty penalties. The information discussed here has more to do with what is happening currently in the research arena, than what happens with recreational use.

There has been a rather recent resurgence in research following a multi-decade prohibition after the post-hippie era of the 1960's. But the research has returned and is showing promise enough for the FDA to state openly that they can be "groundbreaking interventions" for many neurological disorders, including drug and alcohol addiction.

Listen in as I explain just what psychedelic compounds are, how they work in the brain, and why they can help with so many conditions in as little as one experience.

I also offer my two cents on their use and how they can very nicely fit into a functional approach to care if used properly and with respect.

Melatonin - Why we should think twice about using this sleep aid18 Mar 202400:38:39

In this 55th episode, we discuss the use of the over-the-counter sleep aid, Melatonin.

Sometimes we just need a good night of sleep and so we reach for something handy. But is that sleep aid an antihistamine, a prescription sedative, or is it a hormone like Melatonin?

We will explore just how Melatonin, a hormone, works in your system, and how chronic use might actually be doing more harm than good in the long run.

Letting Go of Our Demons16 Sep 202400:24:28

In this 81st episode I delve into emotional health and discuss the importance of facing and letting go of our various "demons."

A demon, if taken in a literal sense, can be that thing in your life that is working to hold you back, to cause you harm, or to inflict harm on others. Demons thrive on disharmony, hate, and misery. All too often we allow these demons to persist and control our lives.

This can manifest quite easily into actual physical health issues, but can of course ruin mental health as well. They can hold us back from perusing or succeeding in our chosen careers, engaging in meaningful ways with those around us, and can influence how we see or appreciate the things or people in our lives.

In this episode I discuss these concepts and share a couple of my own demons. I, like you, am a fellow human being. And I, like you, get to experience the whole spread of experiences and emotions that shape who I am and how I see the world. It is of course a work in progress.

I finish with a poem that I wrote after losing a friend to poor communication and misunderstanding. It was clear at one point in the interaction that I was no longer interacting with my friend... But rather, the demon inside with all of the hate, fear, and poison only a demon could possess. But this poem is really about all of us. We all have our demons. And it would benefit any one of us to identify, challenge, and let go of those demons.

Happy hunting everyone!

Genetic Testing - Powerful tool for health & wellness? Or fuel for worry?11 Mar 202400:31:42

In this 54th episode, we discuss concepts around genetic testing. The identification of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs), otherwise known as mutations to one base pair of DNA, can be linked to many different disease expressions and/or physiological mechanisms in our bodies. Testing for them can be helpful in understanding what we may have in store for us, and how we may want to address our healthcare.

But is there such thing as too much information? How might this impact a person's sense of happiness for the life they have left to life? Can knowledge of a genetic trait lead to destructive behavior by mistake?

These are things that one must consider before testing like this. There are always risks and benefits. Certain people may benefit while others suffer. Listen and explore these concepts and more!

Covid-19 and How It Can Promote Autoimmunity05 Mar 202400:40:05

In this 53rd episode I delve into dangerous and polarizing territory to discuss Covid-19. Now that we are a couple of years away from so much of the unknown around this novel infection, there is growing amount information available to us.

The focus of this podcast today is to look at how proteins on the viral surface, as well as the spike protein itself can be confused with self-tissue. This can lead to the triggering of autoimmune reactions within the body and potentially to full blown autoimmune disease in some individuals.

We will discuss a paper published early in 2020 which compares immune reactions to both the virus itself as it presents in the "wild" and to reactions specific to spike protein only (the "jab").

When discussing concepts of risk-to-benefit... Are all people the same? Or are there populations of people who are more significantly impacted from these exposures?

Come along with me as we discuss some unfortunately taboo topics.... As we discuss the undiscussable... Covid-19.

Let's talk about the Prostate!27 Feb 202400:39:45

In this 52nd episode we discuss some different ways that the prostate gland can be impacted. We will talk about the difference between prostate hypertrophy (enlargement), prostatitis (inflammation), and prostate cancer.

We will also discuss several mechanisms which can promote the above mentioned situations. For example... Is there a testosterone concern? Or perhaps Estrogen? Well, it is important to know the difference. Hint... Estrogen is hardly ever ordered for men in a mainstream blood test.

I finish up with a poem that I wrote about the prostate 20 years ago! (Just for fun.) :-)

Fats... Let's talk about it! 19 Feb 202400:43:42

In this 51st episode we discuss several important topics regarding fat. We will discuss the difference between saturated and unsaturated fats, trans fats, oxidized fats, and how they can influence cardiovascular disease.

We also discuss how to choose healthier options in the grocery store, and how to cook with fats to ensure you are getting the healthiest outcome.

50th Episode! Thoughts on Gratitude and Happiness13 Feb 202400:28:03

In this 50th episode I share my gratitude for all of you listeners! And riff a little on happiness to boot!

Yin and Yang Philosophy for a better understanding of health and how we relate to our environment06 Feb 202400:31:08

In this 49th episode I get back to my roots as a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM). Traditional Chinese Medicine has a base fundamental association with the concepts of Yin and Yang Theory. Balance. Without balance there is disharmony.

We will discuss how Yin and Yang interrelate, how they define each other, how we might see them manifest both clinically and in our daily lives, and how a meditation on these concepts might help for the greater good of wellness.

The Neurology of Tic Disorders, and Why They are on the Rise29 Jan 202400:33:12

In this 48th episode I discuss several concepts pertaining to tic disorders. Tic's are definitely on the rise, especially amongst our younger generation, and may be suggestive of something deeper going on in the brain.

I will discuss three types of "tics," being motor, vocal, and limbic (emotional) which can occur independently or together. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is yet another expression of weakness in the very same areas of the brain.

I will explain the various parts of the brain responsible for this behavior and other parts of the brain required to dampen tic behavior.

I will then tie together some concepts about how to manage or improve tic behavior. It often takes several things all occurring at once to make the largest impact.

In the end... The recommended "exercises" for tic behavior are the same ones that can help with generalized brain health! So even if you don't have tics yourself, or know someone with tics, this podcast is still relevant for you because you have a brain! ;-)

To Eat or not to Eat... That is a question!23 Jan 202400:43:48

In this 47th episode we discuss the concept of fasting. There are many types of fasting approaches out there but we break this talk into concepts around Intermittent Fasting, 5:2 fasting, 24-hour fasting, and longer...

We will discuss some of the dangers of fasting, which are few, and plenty of reasons why it can greatly improve your quality of life and longevity.

We then discuss many of the benefits of fasting which even impact you at a genetic level.

I also share a few personal stories of my own fasting experiences as well as a few people I know who have cured or improved their health with these concepts.

The physiology and energetics of anxiety16 Jan 202400:33:49

In this 46th episode I discuss some of the mechanisms driving anxiety both from a mainstream western physiological perspective as well as from a more energetic perspective.

I discuss the difference between acute panic attacks and chronic anxiety, while offering some quick and easy techniques to help yourself or someone you know to manage the situation.

I also share a recent experience I had helping a relative stranger through an anxiety/panic attack experience.

In closing, I finish with a short spoken-word piece that I was inspired to write in response to having sat with that person going through an acute episode of anxiety.

Inflammageing: How inflammation drives disease and accelerates ageing 08 Jan 202400:43:52

In this 45th episode, and the first official episode of 2024 we discuss the concept of Inflammageing. This of course is a combination of inflammation and ageing. Are they mutually exclusive? Does one drive the other? And just how many viscous cycles are at play here?

Listen and explore some ways in which inflammageing promotes disease, and how we can work to slow the process.

The Neurology of Will Power and how to improve goal setting success09 Sep 202400:35:07

In this 80th episode I discuss some neurological concepts regarding Will Power. More specifically I discuss the Anterior Midcingulate Cortex and how it can have dramatic impacts on our ability to do those things we would rather not do, but know that they are good for us.

Just like working out our muscles, sometimes it takes a little effort to get ourselves up and out of our holes. And it is in the getting up and out part that builds this very important brain region.

I also discuss how the Anterior Midcingulate Cortex can be associated with depression and offer some insights into how to work with this brain region as a part of a strategy to work through or out of depression.

And lastly I discuss the link between "super aging": and the Anterior Midcingulate Cortex.

Here is a wonderfully written journal article on this topic for any of you who like a little more scientific literature in your life:

Inhale the Darkness and Exhale the Light - A message of gratitude and meditation for 202401 Jan 202400:21:53

In this 44th episode you will catch me in my car, post workout and sauna, feeling inspired to share some of my personal meditation tips.

As we enter the new year, it feels appropriate to appreciate what past years have offered, accept those things which have not gone to plan, or those things which have resulted in sadness or trauma, and look forward with a renewed sense of optimism and peace.

Making this a priority can not only help you feel better emotionally in this troubling time, but can support optimal physical health as well. As energetic creatures, everything is connected. There is no mental/emotional vs. physical. It is one in the same.

We are all powerful spiritual beings capable of transforming darkness into light. In this episode I offer you some tips on how to meditate on this very concept.

Thank you for your time and attention over the past 43 episodes... You all are indeed a big part of my smile meditation.

Happy New Year to you all!

Dr. Jim

The delicate nature of mental health: A case of one person who fell through the cracks26 Dec 202300:29:46

In this 43rd episode I discuss a recent case of a person I know who slipped into a form of dangerous psychosis. We will discuss how general health, head trauma, poor sleep, drug withdrawal, and more can all work together to destroy a person's mental health. In some cases this can lead to criminal behavior.

How might we prevent situations like this from fully expressing? What can be done before psychosis sets in? What are some warning signs? And what are some things to do as prevention?

We will discuss all of these things and more in this heartfelt discussion about mental health.

The Flu, Wind Invasions, and Pernicious Evils22 Dec 202300:33:03

In this 42nd episode I discuss my recent flu experience as a platform to discuss some of the Traditional Chinese Medical concepts around viral infections.

We will discuss the difference between Wind Cold and Wind Heat type infections, how to check the pulse for early signs of infection, and a few tips on how to work with each specific pattern of infection and recovery.

I have not been sick like I was last week in over 3o years! So this experience left quite an impression. Stay healthy everyone!!

Eat Fat to Burn Fat... A discussion of some benefits of a Ketogenic Diet11 Dec 202300:37:19

In this 41st episode we discuss concepts around a ketogenic diet, otherwise known as nutritional ketosis.

We will discuss what a ketone is as compared to glucose, how best to get into ketosis, why a person would do such a thing, and how the benefits can extend way beyond simple weight loss efforts.

Listen in and look beyond the more well known faddish concepts of Keto dieting! There is so much more to the story.

So you've lost your oral tolerance! Food sensitivity reactions at another level. 05 Dec 202300:41:49

In this 40th episode we will discuss what is known as "Loss of Oral Tolerance." There is indeed a difference between the more basic food sensitivity reactions and loss of tolerance to the majority of what is being consumed.

We will discuss the difference between allergy and sensitivity reactions to foods. What they are, how they present symptomatically, and how they are tested.

We will also discuss the how one might approach a more simple food sensitivity as compared to loss of immune tolerance. Just how many foods can or should be removed from the diet in each case?

And lastly... What can be done with supplements to help heal these conditions? Listen in and find out all of these things and more!

Developing a Gratitude Practice, and Why We Should Do So24 Nov 202300:27:46

In this 39th episode, and on the heels of Thanksgiving, we discuss the concept of how to develop a practice of gratitude. The health benefits of such a practice are many and well published in the medical literature. But what is the most effective way in which to build such a practice? It isn't quite what you might think.

We discuss some of concepts around how neurology can impact psychology though the development of highly efficient pathways in the brain, and how to change our "mantras" to support positive pathways instead of negative ones.

We also discuss some of the published physiological benefits of gratitude practice. Hint... It isn't just to make you feel happier!

Forest Bathing - The Japanese practice of walking amongst the trees17 Nov 202300:37:40

In this 38th episode we explore some of the published medical benefits of simply walking in the woods. I have to chuckle that something so obvious as walking in nature could warrant so much scientific study. However, if you search out the topic of "forest bathing or forest therapy" on the medical database PubMed, you will find 30,433 results! Perhaps we should taking this form of therapy seriously!

This episode was inspired by two recent trips to the mountains I took in a seven day timespan. I was gifted with the opportunity to touch ancient Sequoia Redwoods in the Western Sierra mountains, sit by mountain streams, touch ancient Bristlecone Pines in the White Mountains, and walk on frozen lakes in the Eastern Sierra mountains.

All were pure medicine for the soul.

Here are a couple of journal papers detailing some of the benefits spoken about in this episode:

Genetic factors in autoimmunity - How to support Regulatory T-Cell Function13 Nov 202300:39:07

In this 37th episode we will discuss two very important factors with a high link to genetic mutations in autoimmune disease which are largely overlooked.

Vitamin D deficiency is at epidemic levels in this country yet instrumental in how the immune system regulates.

Glutathione, perhaps one of my favorite compounds, is essential is another factor missing and is one of the key factors in how autoimmunity begins in the first place.

Listen and learn some basic ways to support immune function to avoid autoimmune disease, as well as how to manage existing autoimmune disease should it already be present in your body.

Reflux... A Functional Approach23 Oct 202300:47:20

In this 34th episode I took a personal request from a friend to discuss concepts related to acid reflux, or GERD. The question was, "How to manage acid reflux/gut health without PPIs?"

PPIs are Proton Pump Inhibiting drugs such as Prilosec, Nexium, and Prevacid (to name a few).

In this episode we will discuss the north to south, aka. Mouth to anus approach to the digestive system and just how important it is to keep this digestive progression well tuned.

Topics include chewing our food, stomach acid production, pancreatic enzyme release, bile release, and more!

Hint... It is all dependent upon having healthy levels of stomach acid!

The Throat Chakra17 Oct 202300:11:28

In this 33rd episode, I share a piece that I wrote in response to a recent meditation on the Throat Chakra.

Working with the deeper layers of our energetic bodies can be instrumental in the success of our overall medical experience. The Throat Chakra is just one layer which could be holding a person back from true wellness.

Are there people in your life with whom you have broken communication? How is your own inner dialog? And do you have any problems physically in the area of the throat or neck?

Perhaps there are approaches you haven't considered.
