Phil M. Jones - Secrets of Word Choices Revealed: 5 Minute Success - The Podcast03 Dec 202000:29:18

EXACTLY Like. . . Nobody Else 

 

Phil entered the world of business at the tender age of 14. With nothing more than a bucket and sponge, he went from single-handedly washing cars at weekends to hiring a fleet of friends working on his behalf, resulting in him earning more than his teachers by the time he was 15. 

 

Soon after, at just 18, Phil was offered the role of Sales Manager at fashion retailer Debenhams – making him the youngest Sales Manager in the company’s history. 

 

His early career went from strength to strength, as he worked with a host of Premier League Football Clubs to help them agree sponsorships and licensing agreements, to then being a key part of growing a £240m property business. 

 

But in 2008, after several years of being one of the most in-demand young sales leaders in the UK, Phil decided it was time to dedicate his future to helping others to succeed. 

 

He took everything he had learnt about leadership, sales and business growth from his previous roles, and created a one-day workshop, where he trained over 2,500 people in his founding year before eventually licensing his training to the UK, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand. 

 

But there was a challenge… 

 

As Phil plunged deeper and deeper into the world of training businesses, and worked with more and more organisations to improve their results – he was becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the style of information that the marketplace was glorifying. 

 

Everybody is selling something, be it an idea, a product, a service or an outcome yet the term “Sales” was often about hype, it was celebrating ruthlessness and it was all about unethically persuading and influencing people to get what they wanted. 

 

The only thing that ever seemed to matter was the short-term RESULTS, with no second-thought for the impact on all people involved. 

 

Since then, Phil has made it his life’s work to completely demystify the sales process, and bring both simplicity and integrity to a world that is often full of big egos and even bigger lies.

I'm an earthy, artsy landscape designer with degrees in ornamental horticulture and landscape architecture.  

 

I've worked for the National Park Service, an environmental communication firm, design-build firms, and 15 years ago I started my own landscape design business.  

 

My dad died a few years ago.  While I was at the hospital in his final days I started to redesign the green space that I used as my recharging place. It was just a patch of grass with a flagpole in the middle. I needed a place to connect with the earth, feel the sun on my face, and find my center. The design process started as a fun creative activity. I realized that, like me, many people could benefit from a restorative kind of landscape. Not just friends and family that visited, but hospital staff and patients as well.

I bought my first business at the age of 28. It was a wedding rentals company that sometimes did florals called A Southern Tradition. The business thrived, we started booking six-figure clients, and I found my work featured in publications like Southern Living, Martha Stewart Weddings, and People. 

 

Designers and wedding professionals from around the world started to take notice. It wasn’t long before I had a calendar filled with coaching calls and my Australian clients were waking up before dawn (literally) to book an hour of my time. 

 

That’s when I knew it was time to share my floral design and wedding planning secrets in a way anyone could access. In the Spring of 2017, I sat down and wrote my very first online course… The Business Behind the Blooms. 

 

I’d found my purpose. Experiencing tough sh*t, and then sharing about it. 

 

The next few years saw more courses written, more students helped, a podcast launch and even a book release.

In 2018, Jamie Gruber was an insurance executive who stated a vision for his life to his co-workers to 'travel for 3-4 months a year with his family to any destination'.  He was laughed at.  Through that experience, he learned the power of proximity and surrounding himself with growth-minded individuals.

Jeff Glover started his career in retail sales at the young age of 16. After becoming a Top 150 Salesperson for Circuit City nation-wide and later Art Van Furniture, at the young age of 19, Jeff decided to enter the Real Estate field. With a strong focus on mastering the art of prospecting and presenting, Jeff quickly became the top agent in his office. After selling 30 homes in his first year in the business, he was sought out by one of the largest franchises in Michigan to manage one of their offices. After becoming the top recruiter two years in a row in that office, the 17 office firm with over 600 agents, promoted Jeff to their Director of Training and Recruiting. After a few years in that role, in 2009, Jeff started Jeff Glover & Associates, Realtors. That team is now composed of 25 agents selling over 1,000 homes a year and is the #1 home selling team in Michigan and top 25 in the nation. Jeff is also the Operating Partner of multiple Keller Williams Realty offices and in total, has just over 500 agents in his brokerages. Jeff is known industry-wide as a top sales trainer and professional speaker. His coaching and training organization, Glover U, hosts over 50 events per year and has over 25,000 attendees annually. Jeff not only talks the talk, he also walks it, at an average of 110 closings per year for himself personally in the last decade.
