Diet Coke: Silent Killer or Crispy Treat29 oct. 202600:52:03

Send us Fan Mail

Welcome back for a Throwback Thursday episode!  This week, we're reaching back into the Season 2 archives to revisit a topic that's near and dear to our hearts… Diet Coke.  Is it slowly poisoning us? Is aspartame actually dangerous?  Is your daily Diet Coke habit a one-way ticket to an early grave?  Or has the internet once again taken a perfectly good beverage and turned it into a public health emergency?  In this episode, we're digging into the science and separating the actual evidence from the fearmongering.  Because while Diet Coke might not qualify as a health food, some of the claims about it are a little more dramatic than the research supports.

Hitler’s Last Trip: Dead in Berlin or Drugged Up in Argentina?15 oct. 202600:55:32

**Discussion begins at 2:25**
Welcome back to Throwback Thursday, where we’re digging into the 3SchemeQueens archives and revisiting some of our older conspiracy and mystery episodes that included medical discussions.  This week, we’re going back to one of history’s most persistent conspiracy theories: Did Adolf Hitler really die in his Berlin bunker in 1945, or did he somehow escape to Argentina?  Was Hitler even physically capable of pulling off an escape?  By the end of the war, his health was reportedly deteriorating, he had a tremor, significant gastrointestinal problems, and was being given a truly impressive pharmaceutical cocktail by his personal physician. So while we talk submarines, secret Nazi escape routes, alleged sightings in South America, and all the usual conspiracy chaos, we’re also asking: What condition was Hitler actually in during the final months of his life?  What drugs was he taking?  And if he had made it out of Germany, would he have had access to the medications and medical care necessary to survive?

**Discussion begins at 5:00**

In 1995, 18-year-old Christa Pike committed the brutal murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, a crime that would put Pike on Tennessee’s death row for three decades.  On September 30, 2026, the state attempted to carry out her sentence using lethal injection.  Two doses of pentobarbital later, Pike was still alive, ultimately leaving the prison in an ambulance rather than a hearse.

But Christa Pike is far from the first condemned prisoner whose execution did not go according to plan.  In this episode, we examine Pike’s case alongside some of the most infamous failed and botched executions in American history, and ask the question of how someone survives a procedure specifically designed to kill them.  We’re talking failed IV access, lethal injection pharmacology, malfunctioning electric chairs, execution protocols, and the uncomfortable physiology behind what happens when an execution goes wrong.

Located just off the coast of Long Island, New York, Plum Island has been home to a government animal disease research facility for decades.  Officially established to study infectious diseases affecting livestock, the island has also become the center of decades of speculation about biological warfare, government experiments, biological weapons research, and accidental releases of dangerous pathogens.  This week, we're re-releasing one of our first episodes, in which we explore the documented history of Plum Island and examine the conspiracy theories that have made this mysterious island famous.  One of the biggest mysteries surrounding Plum Island is it's alleged connection to Lyme disease.  Lyme disease first emerged as a recognized illness in Lyme, Connecticut, just miles from Plum Island, leading to theories that government researchers may have experimented with Borrelia bacteria and ticks as biological weapons.  Is Plum Island connected to Lyme disease, or is the geographic coincidence simply too tempting to ignore?

Lindsay Clancy: Murder or Madness?25 août 202601:42:42

**Discussion begins at 4:45**

There are some cases where the facts are so horrifying that we instinctively want the answer to be simple.  Someone did something terrible, they knew what they were doing, and they should be held responsible.  But what happens when the person accused of doing something unimaginable may also have been profoundly, catastrophically mentally ill?  That is the question at the center of the Lindsay Clancy trial.  In January of 2023, three siblings, five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan were killed inside their home in Duxbury, Massachusetts.  Their mother, Lindsay Clancy, survived an apparent suicide attempt and was ultimately charged with three counts of first-degree murder.  Now, more than three years later, a jury is being asked to decide if Lindsay did it, and what was going in her mind at the time.  Today we’re going to breakdown the possibilities.  The first is the prosecution's version: Lindsay did it, she knew exactly what she was doing, and she is criminally responsible.  The evidence, they argue, points to planning, decision-making, and deliberate actions before and after the children's deaths.  The second is the defense's argument: Lindsay did it but she was experiencing a devastating psychiatric illness, including postpartum psychosis, and was not criminally responsible for her actions.  Her attorneys have pointed to her deteriorating mental health, her psychiatric treatment, medications, and what they say was a failure to recognize just how seriously ill she had become.  And then there is the third possibility being argued by armchair detectives following the case… What if Lindsay didn't do it at all?  This week, we’ll look at the evidence that supports each possibility, the evidence that challenges each one, and what the law actually requires, because this isn't just a story about a mother accused of killing her children.  It's a case about mental illness, postpartum psychosis, criminal responsibility, the limits of psychiatric medicine, and the justice system.  So buckle up foil heads, because this one is complicated.

The Flannan Isles Lighthouse Mystery: The Keepers Who Vanished02 juin 202600:39:23

**Discussion begins at 5:05**

On a remote cluster of windswept islands off the coast of Scotland, three lighthouse keepers vanished without a trace.  No bodies.  No signs of a struggle.  Just an abandoned lighthouse, a stopped clock, and a mystery that has haunted the sea for more than a century.  This week, we’re heading to the Flannan Isles Lighthouse, where in December of 1900, keepers James Ducat, Thomas Marshall, and Donald MacArthur disappeared from the isolated island of Eilean Mòr.  When the relief ship finally arrived after days of storms, something felt wrong immediately.  The lighthouse was dark.  The dock was empty.  One set of oilskins remained hanging inside, suggesting one man had gone out into the storm without proper gear.  The logbook entries described violent winds and terrified behavior… even though weather reports later suggested the seas had been calm.

So what really happened on the Flannan Isles?  Was it a rogue wave powerful enough to sweep all three men into the Atlantic?  A tragic accident compounded by brutal weather?  Or did something stranger happen on that isolated rock in the North Atlantic?  Over the years, theories have ranged from sea monsters and ghost ships to paranormal forces, secret espionage, and even the island’s supposed curse. This week, we’re diving into one of the most chilling unsolved disappearances in maritime history, the Flannan Isles Lighthouse Mystery.

Encephalitis Lethargica: The Mysterious Pandemic That's Been Forgotten05 mai 202600:50:02

Send us Fan Mail

Between 1918 and 1920, the Spanish Flu killed 50 million people worldwide.  This pandemic, arrived on the heels of WW1, and between the two events, nearly 5% of the world’s population was killed.  But there was another pandemic occurring, one that is less well known and less frequently talked about, that remains a mystery to this day.  In the winter of 1916 in Europe, people were seeking medical attention for general malaise.  At first, it looked like a mild case of the flu with fever, headaches, and fatigue.  Many would recover, but some would begin exhibiting tremors and many slowed down mentally and physically, until they were completely immobile despite being conscious and alive.  The symptoms presented on a spectrum, but patients sometimes experienced lethargy or even obtundation, paralysis of eye muscles, rigid muscles, frozen posture, loss of speech, and sudden immobility.  In some cases, the progression was overnight.  In others, it took weeks to months.

Doctors called it Encephalitis Lethargica, but no one really understood it.  Some patients slept for days.  Others stayed awake, trapped inside bodies that no longer moved.  Hundreds of thousands of people lost the ability to walk and talk, and then in 1928 new cases just stopped appearing.  By then, however, there had been more than 1 million cases, and half of those had ended in death.  Those that did survive, often developed a post-encephalitic Parkinsonism leaving them rigid, slow, and unable to move normally for the rest of their lives.

And then, just as mysteriously as it appeared… it vanished.  So what was this disease? A viral epidemic? A post-war complication? Something we still don’t fully understand?  This week, we’re diving into one of the most unsettling medical mysteries in modern history, Encephalitis Lethargica, also known as the Sleeping Sickness.

The Vanishing Minds: The Mysterious Deaths and Disappearances of US Scientists14 avr. 202601:04:39

**Discussion begins at 5:35**

What if the brightest minds in science were being erased?  Over the past few years, a quiet pattern has begun to emerge.  Names that once lived in research papers, conference panels, and classified briefings are now showing up somewhere else entirely: missing persons reports, obituaries, and unanswered questions. Today we’re talking about nine scientists:
William McCasland.
Monica Reza.
Carl Grillmair.
Melissa Casias.
Anthony Chavez.
Frank Maiwald.
Micheal David Hicks.
Nuno Loureiro.
Jason Thomas.
Different fields.  Different backgrounds.  And yet their stories seem to echo each other.  Some were working on advanced energy systems.  Others on space observation, defense technologies, or experimental physics.  All of them were operating at the edge of what we understand.  Then, suddenly, they were gone.  So today we’re discussing these cases and trying to decide if this is just a tragic series of coincidences or if there is something linking these cases together.

Note: After recording another scientist was added to the list of mysterious deaths and disappearances.  Steven Garcia, 48, was a property custodian for the Kansas City National Security Campus, the facility that manufactures more than 80% of all the non-nuclear components used to build the military’s nuclear weapons.  On August 28, 2025 he left his home on foot with a hand gun and no other personal belongings.  He has not been seen since.

Alpine Divorce: Ending a relationship by murdering one’s significant other during a mountain trip and passing it off as an accident, or more specifically, abandoning a partner in a remote outdoor setting.

The phrase originates from an 1893 short story by Scottish-Canadian author Robert Barr, titled An Alpine Divorce.  In the grim tale, an unhappy husband plots to kill his wife during a trip to the Swiss Alps, only for her to turn the tables on him, having already framed him for her murder before leaping herself.  Several high profile cases over the last few years have led to a viral trend of social media users telling their own stories of “Alpine Divorce”.  These tales of domestic abuse involve one partner endangering the other in the wilderness – with the victim either being left in a perilous situation, or merely abandoned without consideration for their safety and well-being.  Today we’re going to discuss some of the most high profile cases.

**Discussion begins at 4:30**

In the late 1950s, a quiet family in the English town of Hexham experienced a tragedy that would forever change their lives, and eventually become one of the most famous alleged cases of reincarnation in modern history.  In 1957, two young sisters, Joanna and Jacqueline Pollock, were killed in a car accident while walking to church with a friend.  Their parents, devastated by the loss, tried to rebuild their lives while carrying unimaginable grief.  But about a year later, something extraordinary happened.  Their mother gave birth to twin girls: Jennifer and Gillian. Almost immediately, their father became convinced that the twins were somehow the rebirth of the daughters he had lost.  As the girls grew older, they began displaying strange similarities to their deceased sisters, including shared personality traits, specific fears, and even what appeared to be memories of places and events they had never experienced.  One twin was even born with birthmarks that closely resembled scars that Jacqueline had before her death.  The story would go on to attract the attention of researchers studying reincarnation, including psychiatrist Ian Stevenson, who documented cases of children claiming memories of past lives around the world.  But the Pollock Sisters case raises a difficult question: were these eerie similarities evidence of something beyond our understanding… or could they be explained by grief, suggestion, and coincidence?

In the late 1990s, Mexican Channel 5 would cut into cartoons and late night shows,  with a solemn voice and grainy black and white photos of missing people who had vanished without a trace.  One of these missing women was Selene Delgado, Lopez.  But decades later, nobody can agree on whether she ever existed.  Was Selene a real 18 year old who disappeared in Mexico City and whose case slipped through the cracks?  Or was she a media fabrication?  After all these years there are no official records, not family testimony, and no confirmed sightings.  And she's not the only one... In the 1980s, Chicago residents remember seeing a grainy black and white photo of another missing woman named Joanna Lopez that would air after the nightly news had wrapped.  But when the internet tried to solve the mystery decades later, things only got stranger. Records were scarce. Police files were practically nonexistent. Was Joanna ever truly reported missing? Was she part of a PSA campaign gone wrong? A broadcasting error? Or something else entirely?  This wee we are diving deep into these cases and attempting to get to the bottom of the truth about these two women.

**Discussion beings 9:07**

On October 9, 2013, 14 year old Abigail Hernandez disappeared while walking home from school in North Conway, NH – a small town with a population of about 2000.  The school librarian reported seeing her walking in the direction of her home at 2:30 PM, and she was not seen again for nine months.  While she was missing, her mom never gave up the search for her – convinced that she was alive and being held against her will.  Her father on the other hand, claimed that she had likely just runaway.  The only sign of life was a letter mailed to her mother, which was received nearly a month after the disappearance – letting her know that she was alive and apologizing for leaving.  This letter, as well as the lack of crime in NH, led to the accepted belief amongst the locals that Abby had likely conspired to willingly disappear.  The public was outspoken with their disdain for the young girl, and what they perceived to be a drain on finances and resources spent looking for her.  It was known that she likely couldn’t have survived on her own - did she have an older boyfriend that she had run away with?  Theories had circulated around the school that she had fled due to a teen pregnancy.  Conspiracy theories only got worse 9 months later when she walked through the front door of the home she shared with her mom and sister.  She was wearing the same clothing she had been wearing when she disappeared.  She refused to tell anyone where she had been or what had happened to her.  So what really happened in those missing 9 months?  Was Abby the victim of a terrible crime?  Or the perpetrator of a horrendous conspiracy?

While police named Lucan as the prime suspect, he disappeared without a trace that night, leaving behind a cryptic note to his mother and hints that he might have planned his escape. Some theorists suggest that Lucan didn’t just flee—he orchestrated a perfect vanishing act, using his wealth, aristocratic connections, and meticulous planning to vanish from the public eye and start a new life abroad.  The mythos of Lord Lucan continues to grow because there is no closure. No body, no confirmed sightings, no final confession—just endless speculation. A Look into the Viral Tik Tok Allegations Against Helen Keller16 sept. 202500:37:03

**Discussion begins at 4:15**

Helen Keller was born June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama, to a prominent family.  While the family was well off, much of their wealth was lost during the Civil War, and they lived rather modestly.   At 19 months, Helen became ill with a high fever due to what many presume to be Scarlet Fever, resulting in loss of eyesight and hearing.  As she grew up, she was frustrated and unruly, prompting her parents to write to the Perkins School for the Blind to request help.  The school sent Anne Sullivan, a 20 year old graduate of the school who suffered serious vision problems.  Anne removed Helen from the home for a few weeks and the two lived in a cottage where Anne taught Helen to communicate with her hands.  Over the next several years, Helen learned to read and write.  Anne Sullivan remained Helen’s companion until her death, even helping her to earn a BA in 1904 from Radcliffe College, the female sister school of Harvard.  Helen Keller went on to write over a dozen books, including an autobiography which went on to be adapted into The Miracle Worker.  She also campaigned for social causes like women’s suffrage, labor rights, world peace, and was also a vocal advocate for those with disabilities.   She was also a pacifist, a supporter of female birth control, and…. a eugenics supporter!   She was a member of the Socialist Party and a founding member of the ACLU. S he worked for the American Foundation for the Blind for over 40 years, influencing policy and public perceptions of disability worldwide, and traveled to more than 35 countries to promote education and accessibility.  She died in 1961 after suffering a series of strokes, and was celebrated posthumously… Until 2020 when hashtags like #helenkellerisfake and #helenkellerisoverparty started trending on Tik Tok.  Conspiracy theorists claimed that Helen Keller either didn’t exist, wasn’t truly deaf and blind, or didn’t accomplish the things she’s famous for—from writing books to earning a degree or speaking publicly.  Some videos even suggested she “faked” her disabilities or that her teacher Anne Sullivan was pulling the strings behind the scenes.  What started out as satire quickly came to be believed as truth by many.  But what is the truth?

**Discussion begins at 2:22**

On June 21, 1976, Rafael Pacheco Pérez, a student pilot at the Escuela de Aviación México, embarked on a solo training flight from Mexico City to Chimalhuacán.  Shortly after takeoff, he vanished from radar, and an hour later, reappeared over Acapulco—approximately three hours in the opposite direction of his intended destination.  The aircraft, designed for short flights, was low on fuel and not equipped for such a journey.  During communication with air traffic control, Pacheco's voice reportedly became altered, delivering a message from an entity claiming to be using him as a "microphone" to transmit a message.  The message conveyed that the beings were from the same universe, observing humanity, and warned of an impending global catastrophe if humanity did not change.  Upon landing, Pacheco appeared disoriented and was taken for a medical evaluation.  Despite being tested for intoxication, he was found to be in perfect health, with no drugs or alcohol in his system.  But what is the truth behind one of Mexico's most popular aviation mysteries?  Was the pilot truly possessed by extraterrestrial creatures trying to save humanity, and if so were they able to break the time space continuum?  Was he suffering from a Menty-B?  Was it all a hoax perpetrated by the pilot?  Or is this just another urban legend to debunk?

Before there was Henry Cavill, Tom Welling, Dean Cain, or Christopher Reeve… there was the OG Superman… George Reeves was an actor in the 1930s, who’s burgeoning career stalled when he enlisted in WW2.  After the war he struggled to find parts, and in need of money, he begrudgingly accepted the role of Superman in the television series Adventures of Superman. The show was a hit, but led to type casting.  As a result, he had difficulty being taken seriously for other acting opportunities.  Off-screen, Reeves' personal life was tumultuous. He had a long-term affair with Toni Mannix, the wife of MGM executive Eddie Mannix, and later became engaged to a younger woman, Leonore Lemmon.  These overlapping relationships, combined with career frustrations and financial stress, ultimately led to him being found dead of a a gunshot wound to the head in his Beverly Hills home on June 16, 1959 – a home his former girlfriend Toni had bought him.  Was it suicide, as is listed as the official cause of death?  The death was never adequately investigated, and there were discrepancies in the scene.  Witnesses in the house gave conflicting stories, there were delays in calling the police, and multiple bullet holes were reportedly found in the room.  Additionally, Reeves’ fingerprints were not found on the gun, and some friends claimed he was in good spirits in the days leading up to his death.  Who had motive?  Was it his fiancée - annoyed by his behavior that night and frustrated that he wasn't committed to getting married?  Was it his ex, Toni Mannix, who was heartbroken and had been stalking the engaged couple to the point that he had attempted to obtain a restraining order?  Or was it her husband, Eddie Mannix who was to blame? After all, he had mob and police connections as the VP of MGM, and was tired of hearing his wife obsess over George.

In January 1959, nine experienced Soviet hikers from the Ural Polytechnic Institute set off on a ski trek in the northern Ural Mountains, aiming to reach Mount Otorten. The group, led by Igor Dyatlov, consisted of eight men and two women, almost all in their early to mid-20s.  These experienced hikers were supposed to send a telegram at each checkpoint they reached.  The first telegram came, the second did not.  A search party went looking for them and on February 26, 1959, their abandoned campsite was discovered.  Inside the tents were neatly folded clothing, with gear left behind (ie., there may be one shoe in the tent but the other was. Missing).  The tent was slashed open from the inside.  Bodies were found in various locations, in various states of dress. The bodies had swapped clothing (for example, male clothing on the females and vice versa).  Six of the hikers cause of death was hypothermia, and the other 3 were killed d/t chest and head trauma.  What makes this even odder, is that he clothing revealed hgh levels of radiation.  Locals and soldiers reported strange orange lights in the night sky around this time.  And the decomposing bodies had orange tinted skin and grey hair.  The Soviet authorities initially ruled that the hikers died due to an "unknown compelling force".   The investigation was quickly closed, and the files were classified.  But what really happened?  Was it an avalanche, recent investigtions by the Russian government would have you believe?  Was the military somehow involved?  Could it have been a Yeti?  Or was there something more paranormal at play?

The Century Long Debate Regarding Fluoridation: Medical Breakthrough or Government Conspiracy?17 juin 202500:52:29

Send us Fan Mail

**Discussion begins at 6:00**

In 1901, Frederick McKay was a dentist who opened a practice in Colorado Springs and found that his patients all seemed to have stained/mottled teeth, but no cavities.  Why was this?  He determined, after nearly 30 years and with the help of other researchers, that they all had what is now called fluorosis – and it was the result of high levels of fluoride in the Colorado Springs drinking water.  He reported his findings to the dental community, and people started comparing fluoride levels and dental hygiene in various geographical areas. In the 1930s, a dentist with the US Public Health Service, sought to determine how high the level of fluoride in the water could be before it caused mottling, in hopes they could remove fluoride from water sources where there were higher levels.  During his study, he learned that low doses had a protective effect.  It was reported that when natural fluoride concentration was greater than 1 part per million, the incidence of cavities was seen to be reduced by some 50-65% and the World Health Organization began to recommend supplemental fluoride where levels were low.

In the 1940s and 50s, there was a push to fluoridate water in the US and Canada, reportedly in an attempt to improve dental health.  This practice was immediately divisive, and remains that way today.  Today, the American Dental Association remains a strong advocate of adding fluoride to water and estimates that every dollar spent on fluoridation saves about fifty dollars in future dental expenses.  Nonetheless, for the last7 0 years there have been people who felt that the government had and continues to have a more nefarious goal… Was this all a communist plot to undermine American health or control the population?  Other critics note similarities between MK Ultra studies and fluoridating water.   The potential goal of mind control was even referenced in the 1964 political satire Dr Strangelove – in which one of the characters, General Jack D. Ripper believes that fluoridation of public water supplies is a Communist conspiracy designed to weaken American willpower. He sees it as a sinister plot to destroy "our precious bodily fluids".  Was this all a conspiracy to cover up and get rid of fluoride, an industrial waste product of fertilizer?  Finally, there are those who believe that water fluoridation is an infringement of individual rights - similar to mass medication or vaccination without consent.  Additional concerns surround the potential negative health effects including bone cancer, thyroid issues, and cognitive deficits in children – but what is the truth?    Is fluoride in our water a cheap and effective way to improve dental health?  Or is there something more sinister at play?

Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson, 99 years ago this week.  Rising to fame in the 1950s, she captivated audiences with her beauty, charm, and vulnerability.  She starred in numerous successful films, including Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Seven Year Itch, and Some Like It Hot, solidifying her status as a Hollywood legend.  Despite her glamorous public image, Norma Jeane battled with personal struggles including mental health issues, substance abuse, and a string of troubled relationships.   On August 5, 1962, Norma Jeane was found dead in her Los Angeles home at the age of 36.  The official cause of death was listed as a probable suicide due to an overdose of barbiturates.  A bottle of sleeping pills was found near her bed, and she had reportedly been dealing with depression in the weeks leading up to her death.  However, her death has remained shrouded in mystery and controversy.  Numerous inconsistencies in the timeline of her final hours, the delay in contacting authorities, and the disappearance of personal documents and records have fueled speculation that her death may not have been a simple suicide.  Some believe that foul play was involved, citing her alleged affairs with high-profile political figures such as President John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert F. Kennedy as a possible motive for a cover-up.  Other theories range from involvement by the CIA or FBI to suggestions that Norma was silenced due to knowledge of state secrets.  Whether her death was a tragic accident, a suicide, or something more sinister, it remains one of Hollywood’s most tragic mysteries.

The Assassination of Robert F Kennedy22 avr. 202500:52:16

Send us Fan Mail

Robert F. Kennedy, younger brother to John F Kennedy, former Attorney General and New York Senator, and a leading Democratic presidential candidate, was assassinated on June 5, 1968.  He was at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California, shortly after delivering a victory speech following his win in the California primary.  The official story is that Kennedy was shot multiple times by Sirhan Sirhan, a 24-year-old Palestinian man. Sirhan was quickly apprehended at the scene and later claimed that he was angry over Kennedy's pro-Israel stance, particularly his support for Israel in the wake of the Six-Day War in 1967.  Kennedy was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following day, on June 6, 1968.

Although Sirhan Sirhan was arrested and convicted of the murder, many conspiracy theories have since emerged surrounding the assassination.  Some people believe that there may have been a second gunman or that Sirhan's actions were part of a larger plot. These theories have been fueled by the fact that Sirhan’s gun was only a small-caliber revolver which was inconsistent with the murder weapon, and the physical evidence suggested that the shots that killed Kennedy came from close range—closer than Sirhan was able to stand to the senator at the time. Some argue that there were additional shooters in the pantry, pointing to discrepancies in witness testimony and the trajectory of the bullets.

Conspiracy theories point to the possibility of CIA or other government involvement, citing the political climate of the time, with Kennedy being a vocal critic of the Vietnam War and a potential force for change in U.S. politics. Others suggest that powerful figures within the Democratic Party may have had motives for silencing Kennedy as he was gaining momentum in the race for president.   Did Sirhan Sirhan act alone?  Or was he merely a victim of MK Ultra?  Did he actually kill RFK, or was there someone else directly responsible?

Let's go back to January 28, 2022 – Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe and his girlfriend, Karen Read, had been fighting. They decided to decompress and meet up in a bar in Canton, Massachusetts, knowing that a blizzard was coming and they were likely going to be snowed in for a few days.  Karen met her boyfriend and his buddies at a bar about a mile from John’s home, and then they went across the street to meet up with more of his friends.  After last call, the couple was invited to an after party about 2.5 miles away at the home of Boston Police Officer Brian Albert.  Karen didn’t enter the house, for reasons we will get to later, but she dropped of John and then drove herself to his home where she allegedly fell asleep on the couch.  When Karen awoke around 5AM, she noted that John had not come home and began searching for him with the help of some friends.  They found him dead in the snow in front of the Albert residence, eventually leading to the arrest of Karen Read.  Prosecutors allege that Karen backed into John with her SUV, and left the scene, causing John O’Keefe to die d/t a basilar skull fracture and hypothermia.  She was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, motor vehicle homicide, and leaving the scene of a deadly crash. The defense, however, claims that John O’Keefe was likely killed by someone inside the house and that the witnesses, many of whom were affiliated with the Boston Police Department, utilized their resources to cover up the true cause of death and frame Karen Read.  The trial, lasting more than 2 months, and including more than 600 pieces of evidence and 70 witnesses, ended in a mistrial last July. The foreman told the judge "The divergence in our views are not rooted in a lack of understanding or effort but deeply held convictions that each of us carry, ultimately leading to a point where consensus is unattainable," the jury of six men and six women were hung after 4 days of deliberation.  Polling of the jurors revealed that they had all agreed that she was not guilty of murder or leaving the scene but had been confused about how to deliver a partial verdict. She is currently being retried for the same charges.

Gabby Petito was born and raised in Blue Point, New York and was the oldest of 7 children in a blended family.  While attending Bayport Blue Point High School, she met Brian Laundrie.  After graduating in 2017, they reconnected and began dating in 2019.  Eventually, they decided to move to Northpoint, Fl to live with Brian's parents.  In 2020 they got engaged, and Gabby purchased a Ford Transit Connect - which the couple converted into a sleeper van.  On July 2, 2021 they set off from New York on a 4 month roadtrip through national parks.  Gabby was hoping to take off as a content creator, and was vlogging the journey on her YouTube and Instagram accounts about #vanlife.  On August 12, 2021 police responded to a 911 call in Moab, Utah. The caller had reported seeing a man attacking a girl in a van driving by.  The couple was separated and the police felt that Brian was the victim and no charges were pressed.  They sent him to a domestic abuse hotel for the night, and she stayed in the van. The couple then proceeded on their trip. On August 25 Gabby made a final post to Instagram and then stopped responding to texts or phone calls.  On September 11, Gabby's mother filed a missing persons report in Suffolk County, NY.  When police went to the Laundries as part of a wellness check, they learned that Brian had returned home in Gabby’s van, without her.  But the Laundries had already hired an attorney and refused to cooperate with the police investigation.  The investigation let them to Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, where Gabby's phone was last used.  On September 19, 3 weeks after the investigation had begun, her body was found in the park.  After the discovery of her body, a search warrant was issued on the Laundrie home, and it is then that we learn Brian Laundrie had disappeared days prior, last seen going on a hike.  A month later, on October 20, Brian Laundrie’s parents discover his body in Carlton Reserve, a nature preserve near their home.  With him, they find a backpack that contains a journal with a partial confession – Brian claimed that he had killed Gabby, but only because she had a freak accident and was suffering and asked him to put her out of his misery.  The coroner eventually ruled Brian Laundrie’s cause of death to be suicide by GSW.  However, a number of inconsistencies in the crime scene, and his parent’s unwillingness to assist in the search for Gabby Petito, have led many online to speculate that Brian Laundrie is not actually dead, and that his parents helped him fake his death to cover it up.

Today we are discussing the mysterious death of a Jane Doe, known under the alias of Jennifer Fairgate.  In June 1995, she checked into the Oslo Plaza, a 5 star hotel in Norway.  She checked in to the hotel using the alias, paid all cash, and was found dead in her hotel room several days after checking in with a GSW to the head.  The cirucmstances were unusual.  Her identity remains unknown, authorities were unable to find any records for a person with the name Jennifer Fairgate, and there are no credible traces of her existence before she appeared at the hotel.  Her death was ruled a suicide, but the gunshot wound was found to be inconsistent with the normal pattern of a suicide.  Despite many years of investigation, Jennifer Fairgate’s identity remains unknown, and the true circumstances of her death have never been solved. The case has become a haunting mystery, with many questions but no answers.  The lack of conclusive evidence about her identity or the reasons behind her death makes it one of the most enduring mysteries in Norway.  Was it really suicide, as the police ruled?  Was she an undercover agent, possibly from a foreign intelligence agency, whose death was meant to remain shrouded in secrecy.  Or was she involved in some sort of illegal activity, perhaps as a witness, victim, or even a criminal herself?

Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister famous for his role in the civil rights movement until his assassination in 1968, at the age of 39. He encouraged non-violent resistance and non-violent civil disobedience, leading marches for desegregation and equal rights.  He is most famous for his role in the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott, and the 1963 March on Washington where he delivered his famous I have a Dream speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.  Despite his peaceful resistance, he was incarcerated several times and was an object of J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI Counterintelligence Program – which was a series of covert and illegal projects between 1956 and 1971 aimed at surveilling, infiltrating, discrediting, and disrupting “subversive” political organizations.  They investigated him for possible ties to communism, spied on him, and secretly recorded him.  In 1964, the FBI sent him a package with a letter and a tape recording alleging of King's sexual indiscretions as an apparent attempt at blackmail.  On April 4, 1968 James Earl Ray, a fugitive from the Missouri State Penetentiary, allegedly assassinated MLK Jr.  However, many including MLK Jrs family, believe James Earl Ray was just the patsy.  What really happened to Martin Luther King, Jr?

On December 4, 2024, the week after Thanksgiving and well into the bustling holiday season, Brian Thompson, United Healthcare’s CEO was gunned down right outside of a hotel in Midtown Manhattan - where he was on his way to a shareholder meeting.  In the chilling street camera video, you see the shooter loitering as Thompson approaches the hotel, before the suspect shoots the CEO in the back, fires a couple more, and then turns and walks away. In the days that follow, there is a massive manhunt in NYC.  NYPD swept the city, even taking to the river, for the shooter and killer of Brian Thompson.   Meanwhile, news channels and social media accounts shared the grainy picture of a similarly dressed man checking into a hostel days prior - a white male with a dark hood up over his head and a mask over his face. He’s shown leaning over the counter, his black mask pulled down, smiling at someone across the counter that is not pictured.

Then, on Monday, December 9, a phone call came in from a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, approximately 223 miles away from the crime scene, the caller claiming that someone matching the suspects description was there.  The police, responding to the call, arrested 26 year old Luigi Mangione.  Found on him during the arrest was the gun, the silencer, and a three page note detailing his plan to kill Mr. Thompson.  But… something about Luigi’s thick eyebrows seems out of place and doesn’t match with the surveillance video that has many people pause over this seemingly too clean murder investigation. Outcries on reddit are claiming that Luigi is a Patsy, very much like our beloved Lee Harvery Oswald (Justice for Lee!), because how does one just get caught in a McDonalds with the murder weapon and a manifesto in his book bag just 5 days later? Is Luigi just too arrogant to believe he would be caught? Or is he being set up? Let’s get into it.

Boeing Safety Issues and Whistleblower Deaths07 janv. 202500:47:37

Since 1916, Boeing has been synonymous with safety and reliability.  The company was responsible for the production of 100,000 airplanes for Allied Forces in WW2, the production of Air Force One, and revolutionizing air travel.  The slogan was, “If it’s not Boeing, I’m not going”.  Following a merger with McDonnell Douglas, experts agree that the company had a culture shift, in which perhaps finances were prioritized over safety.  This all came to a head when Boeing did a rapid roll out of the 737 Max, in an attempt to keep up with their only competition, Airbus.  Following a slew of poor decisions, there were two plane crashes, with 346 deaths.  Since that time, a number of employees have come forward to report safety issues with Boeing and it's contractor, Spirit Aerosystems.  Things had been relatively quiet for Boeing, until last year when a number of safety issues brought them back into the news.  Following a 2.5 billion dollar loss, 50,000 lay offs, and a drop in stocks by 26% in the first quarter, two of the Boeing whistleblowers died under mysterious circumstances within 2 months of each other.  Were these just unfortunate tragedies?  Or was Boeing behind the mysterious deaths?

The Conspiracy Theories Surrounding the Murder of JonBenet: Part II24 déc. 202400:59:18

Send us Fan Mail

**Discussion begins at 4:40**

The JonBenet Ramsey murder is one of the most famous and tragic unsolved child murder cases in the United States.  JonBenet, a 6-year-old beauty queen, was found to be missing on the morning of December 26, 1996 in what appeared to be a kidnap for ransom.  Seven hours later, however, the young girl was found murdered in the basement of her 7,240 sq ft home.   Here is a brief sequence of event - JonBenet was carried in from a party on Christmas night and put to bed.  The following morning, her mother, Patsy, found a ransom note at the bottom of the stairs – demanding $118,000 for the safe return of JonBenet.  It was signed “a foreign faction”.   She noted her daughter was missing and called 911 at 5:52 AM on December 26. The ransom note was highly unusual: it was long, detailed, and written on paper from the Ramsey home. The note demanded a specific amount of money (which was nearly equivalent of John Ramsey's Christmas bonus) and instructed the parents not to contact the police.  The police, as well as friends of the Ramseys, descended on the house, mucking up the crime scene.  At one point, around 1PM, an detctive asks John and his friend to search the house – this being a tool to distract him and get him out of the way.  The duo descended downstairs, and in a back unfinished room, John Ramsey found his daughter dead with evidence of blunt force trauma to the head and strangulation.  He removed tape from her mouth and rushed her upstairs, again disturbing the crime scene.  Police officers then covered the young girls body with a blanket.  It took 12 hours for a coroner to arrive – their report stated that JonBenét had died from blunt force trauma to the head, with a fractured skull. She also had strangulation marks on her neck, consistent with being garrotted with a cord. The garotte was made of a paintbrush from Patsy Ramsey’s paint kit found in the same room.  There was no evidence of conventional rape, but evidence of vaginal trauma, likely from the paintbrush used in the garotte.  There was touch DNA belonging to an unknown male on her underwear, as well as under her nails – the DNA did not match anyone in the family or in the FBI database.  Initially, the police focused on the family as potential suspects. Both Patsy and John Ramsey, as well as their 9 year old son Burke were scrutinized. While they denied involvement, suspicion grew around them due to various inconsistencies in their accounts and the peculiar nature of the crime scene.  There was also speculation about an intruder, as there was evidence of open windows in the basement, which could suggest someone had entered the house, as well as 2 small marks on JonBenet consistent with a stun gun.  In 1999, a grand jury had voted to indict the Ramseys, but prosecutors chose not to pursue charges due to insufficient evidence.  Patsy Ramsey died in 2006 from ovarian cancer, and her death did not lead to any new breakthroughs in the case.  The Ramsey family was officially exonerated in 2008 but the case remains unsolved.  The investigation into her death remains open, and despite some advancements in forensic science, no one has been charged with the crime, leaving room for continued speculation and conspiracy theories.
