| 385: A Final Recap // Why Do These Nine Principles Even Matter? [The SAM Framework] | 30 Aug 2024 | 00:18:33 | |
Here we are! It's the final day of our two-week-long series on how to become more peaceful, confident, and happy in motherhood.
I have loved this series, and it's also been a ton of work--more work than I had anticipated!
(Though I don't know why I didn't anticipate that airing a podcast episode every weekday for two weeks 🫨 would be a huge challenge. Sometimes things sound easy before you do them, and that was definitely the case with this series!)
But, despite the hard work, I'm so glad I persevered to give you a little deep dive into each one of my nine principles of Self-Assured Motherhood.
My goal for every woman who listens to my podcast or participates in my SAM program is this: I want you to feel more fully yourself as a result of the work that we do together - more deeply accepting of who you are and more able to nurture the best that's already within you, instead of wishing you could be different or "better."
Friends, if you want to do this work with me, I hope you will join my Self-Assured Motherhood program, which opens for enrollment on Monday, September 9th.

| 384: Principle #9 // Support Their Struggles [The SAM Framework] | 29 Aug 2024 | 00:14:27 | |
My kids are headed back to school soon, and they will be doing all sorts of assessments to see how they're doing in math and reading and writing. And this got me thinking: I need to do a series of mini-podcast episodes during this back-to-school season for moms to assess how they are doing, not with balancing equations or diagramming sentences (because I have a feeling most of us would fail those assessments 🥴), but to assess something way more important: our own levels of emotional wellbeing.
Just like last week, this week, Monday-Friday, I will be publishing a mini-episode to introduce you to each of the principles I teach in my Self-Assured Motherhood course, a framework I created for overwhelmed moms. Each principle is an important part of emotional well-being and can help you in your personal assessment of how you're doing.
Today's principle is: Support Their Struggles.
As you go along with this mini-series, you can use this self-assessment I've created to visually assess how you're doing in each of the principles we discuss.
I hope you find this mini-series helpful as you take time to consider your own emotional well-being. I'm rooting for you!

| 375: 3 Ways Voicing Your Values will Help Lighten your Mental Load // Rachel Nielson on the Happy Mom Summit | 12 Aug 2024 | 00:34:49 | |
The mental load of motherhood is heavy, and I am always on the lookout for ways to lighten it.
Can you relate?
A surprising discovery I’ve made throughout the years is how dramatic a difference knowing and voicing our values can make in lightening our mental load as moms. When we know ourselves well enough to know our core values, we are able to decrease stress and pressure and build up the structure and support that we need.
Knowing our core values is key to avoiding mom burnout!
I was really grateful to have the opportunity to discuss this at the Happy Mom Summit with JoAnn Crohn. In the interview, I discussed 3 ways knowing our values can help lighten our mental load, and I’m so excited to share them with you today. I absolutely loved being part of the Happy Mom Summit. I hope you find these takeaways helpful in lightening the mental load of motherhood!

For this week’s Hidden Gem, I wanted to re-air a takeaway from Episode 38 with Tony Overbay about how to maintain positive relationships with our teenagers. What I love about this interview is that his takeaways apply to parents with kids of all ages. It’s easy to talk about wanting to be a safe place for our kids, but how do we actually do that? Are we prepared for them to tell us things that are uncomfortable to hear? Tony shares things we can start when our kids are little that will help when they’re teenagers, OR things we can tweak and start doing now if your children are already into their teens. Tony Overbay is a licensed Marriage and Family therapist and host of the Virtual Couch podcast. Tony works with a lot of teenagers in his private practice and it has given him the opportunity to, in turn, work with a lot of parents to help interactions with their kids become more productive and positive.

Welcome to Hidden Gems, a special series of the 3 in 30 podcast. This week, we are sharing an excerpt from Episode 174, Why to Try a Creative Hobby (Even if You Think You’ll Stink at It) with Lisa Funk. Lisa is the founder of HandLettered Design and mother of four. She has struggled with depression and anxiety and has discovered a variety of tools that have helped her reclaim her happiness and her mental health, namely through creativity and hand lettering.
I love how this takeaway goes along with Alli Roper’s episode that aired on Monday about why to continue learning as a busy mom, and that your brain is not mush. I knew I wanted to air this takeaway from Lisa as more encouragement that creating and learning just for fun is so important. We want that for our kids, and this takeaway gives you permission to want that for yourself as well. And while Lisa focuses on creating with your hands, I believe you can apply it to reading, writing, listening to a podcast, or learning or creating in any way that brings you joy. I hope this excerpt gives you encouragement, permission, or even a laugh as she talks about her love and commitment to dance parties at home, not because she’s particularly good at dancing, but solely because dancing is FUN.

Values-based budgeting is the key to approaching personal finances without shame and guilt.
Did you even think that was possible?! 🤯
Money is one of those topics that brings up a lot of emotion - usually negative. Guilt, shame, stress, anxiety, frustration… It’s exhausting! We feel guilt and anxiety if we spend. We feel shame if we’re “too stingy.” We feel frustration at ourselves or our situations. Does this sound at all familiar?
I can imagine you nodding in solidarity.
If you’re struggling with the burden of all of these emotions, you’re going to love what Jen Smith has to say. Jen is a personal finance expert and co-host of the top-rated Frugal Friends Podcast. She is also the best-selling author of The No-Spend Challenge Guide and Pay Off Your Debt for Good. She is legit!

| Introducing "Motherhood Meets Medicine" Podcast | 19 Jan 2023 | 00:07:34 | |
This is a surprise mini-episode as part of a fun series where I introduce you to other wonderful podcasts that might bless and benefit your life.
These shows are all produced by or part of the podcast network that I am apart of, Cloud10 Media. It has been so rewarding for me to collaborate with other podcasters who are working hard to get their important messages out into the world.
The show I am featuring today is called Motherhood Meets Medicine. The Motherhood Meets Medicine Podcast is a space that brings all women together. It's for those who hope to be a mom one day, those who are already mothers, and mothers of mothers. The host, Lynzy, is a Physician Assistant in the Emergency Department where she has practiced medicine for the last 12 years. She brings in experts with formal training to cover everything about motherhood ranging from postpartum issues to feeding babies to managing toddler tantrums. This podcast provides candid, informal interviews that you can listen to while you're driving to work, folding laundry or whatever else your busy day may bring.
For today's mini-episode, we are airing a clip with an interview from Chemical Engineer and Food Scientist, Erin, or “Food Science Babe” as she’s known throughout her social media channels. As a mom, do you ever feel confused about what you should be feeding your kids? The health and wellness industry can sometimes feel very fear-based, and it’s nice to get a breakdown from a professional on what’s actually happening. In this clip, Erin discusses what’s required to label foods organic and debunking the myth that food grown organically are always safer or more nutritious.
You are going to want to listen this excerpt from the Motherhood Meets Medicine podcast, and then head on over to their feed to listen to the entire episode!

Mom-life often feels anything BUT simple. Managing toddler tantrums, managing work deadlines, managing sick kids who call from school and mess up those work deadlines, managing emotional and behavioral needs… Is there a way to just simplify all of this? | 373: Teaching Children to Work Without Being a Drill Sergeant // Danielle Porter | 29 Jul 2024 | 00:39:02 | |
Are you frustrated trying to figure out how to teach your kids to work? If you’re like me, you bounce around between different systems that are “going to work this time” and feel exasperated when they don’t. I don’t want to be a drill sergeant, but I also know it’s important that my kids grow up with a good work ethic! How do I find the right balance!!??
Thankfully, I was able to interview Danielle Porter. Danielle is a mother of six and someone I admire deeply because she's so careful and intentional in everything she does. I asked Danielle to come and teach me about teaching our kids to work, and to be honest, I was surprised by what she had to share!
I hope you find her takeaways as helpful as I did!

| 268: More Peace, Less Frustration: The Power of Family Systems // Susie Salinas | 02 Jan 2023 | 00:37:44 | |
I have to admit upfront that I chose today's episode topic as the very first topic we would cover in 2023 for a slightly selfish reason: I chose to invite my friend Susie Salinas to come on the show to talk about family systems because this is the only goal I have set myself for this new year. In 2023, I want to invest some major focus and energy into getting good systems in place for the management of my home and family life: laundry, bedtimes, meal prep, grocery shopping, tidying, dishes, and morning routines are just a few of the areas where the Nielson family could use a serious reboot of our family systems. II am excited to take these challenges one at a time and focus on creating better systems to help them run well in our home.

Do you like the idea of having a creative hobby but don't feel like you'd be good at it?
I don’t consider myself to be an artistic person, but the truth is, I never even attempt art, so how would I know?
We live in a society that is obsessed with productivity and excellence, so we often don’t give ourselves permission to try a new creative hobby just because we want to or because it feels relaxing or fun.
Lisa Funk of Hand Lettered Design believes that the benefits of having a creative hobby go far beyond a beautiful finished product.

| 256: Why "Unsexy" Elections Matter and How to Get Involved as a Busy Mom // Laney Hawes | 10 Oct 2022 | 00:34:37 | |
I want to thank you for seeing an episode title that mentioned elections and thinking, "Yeah, I want to listen to this. I can give thirty minutes of my busy week to learning more about this." Sometimes easier to put your head down and focus on the to-do list in front of you than it is to learn about politics. Although it might not seem as immediately applicable to your motherhood as an episode on how to manage a tantrum or a rebellious teenager, the political atmosphere and policies in our communities and schools does matter tremendously in our lives and the lives of our children, so thank you for listening in. Enrollment closes this Friday, September 23rd. I'm hopeful that today's episode will give you the push you need to sign up if you've been on the fence.
Go to selfassuredmotherhood.com to learn more and to sign up before Friday Sept 23 at midnight.
If you are listening to this episode on the day it comes, I do have one more live masterclass I am teaching tomorrow, Tuesday, at 1:00 pm MST where I will walk you through a detailed self-assessment to see how you are doing in each one of these areas.
Sign up for the free class at 3in30podcast.com/freeclass.

The nine-month program is built around nine pillars of Self-Assured Motherhood (we study one per month), and today you are going to get a taste of each of those pillars through the stories of some of the alumni of my program. I did little mini-interviews with these women and asked them to share one personal experience from their life that illustrates how they are embodying one of the core principles of self-assured motherhood.

Announcement:
Today is THE day, my friends. For weeks, I have been mentioning that the Self-Assured Motherhood Program, or SAM as I like to call it, would be opening for enrollment soon, and I am excited to announce that doors for enrollment are OPEN now and will close again on Friday, September 23rd. This nine-month program only opens once per year, so if this has been tugging at your heart, please don't wait or talk yourself out of it.
The first step is to sign up to attend a free online class that I will be teaching several times live over the next two weeks. This isn't just a sales webinar…this is actually the first class of my nine-month curriculum, so you can get a taste of what the program is like, even if you aren't sure you can commit to the entire program. Just go to 3in30podcast.com/freeclass to sign up, and the first class is tonight if you are listening to this episode on the day it comes out, so don't wait. I will be offering the same class several more times, so whenever you are listening to this episode, go to 3in30podcast.com/freeclass to find out more.

In honor of the Self-Assured Motherhood Program enrollment opening today, we are going to talk about one of the nine foundational topics that we explore in this program.
When I emailed the alumni of the program and asked which topic had had the most impact on them personally, so many of them mentioned this unit- Sanctify Your Soul-Care, and they shared with me super poignant and powerful stories of how they had applied this concept into their lives, so I actually invited three of those women to come on the podcast today to share those stories with all of you--because I think every mom could probably use some help in this area.
